Brilliant Forgotten Xcom Game - The Bureau Declassified X-com

- The Xcom series is famous for being one of the best in turn based combat with the first game using the Xcom title coming out in the early 90’s it is one of the originals of its type too.
But there was a game that broke the mould of the genre defining series, it has real time combat and is one of my favourite 7th gen PS3 and Xbox 360 games, dare I call it a hidden gem.

It's a pleasant surprise to hear a actuall positive profile on this outstanding game & "Xcom" experience, as unique as it may be!
I pre-ordered it new & rendered a very enthusiastic positive review of the game myself, I couldn't recommend it strongly enough!

I remember when this was announced. As a big fan of the original games, I was so disappointed with the direction that they took it that I never bothered plaything this one. I was relieved when they went back to a turn-based formula. Glad you enjoyed it though. To each their own.
I think a lot of fans felt the same way which is probably why this game didn’t do well enough to get a sequel. Xcom is one of the best turn based series out there and has been for a long time so it makes sense for them to stick with it, I enjoyed the Xcom 2 collection myself.

Yeah, and remember that this was announced before the Firaxis game. It was very depressing. I have my issues with the Firaxis game, but it was a fun game and at least it tried to mimic the original formula somewhat.
It's not that the AI is bad, it's not like you order them, you mind control them, they go to the ordered place the most straight line they can.
I had no issue with them if you apply proper logic to it.
To me it's a good game, and interesting story.

Mass effect and gears of war, were like this at the start, mainly mass effect. Have you played it?

Most people don't know that the original HALO was supposed to be real-time strategy game

@@nearby222 Guess it went full circle. The original HALO was more squad-focused while Halo Wars is more army-focused.
Have you ever played Stranglehold? I have it on PS3, don't know if there was an Xbox release.
It's a Max Payne style game where you play the legit sequel to the movie Hard Boiled.
I picked Strangehold up a few weeks ago on the PS3, I haven’t played it yet but I’ve heard good things 😀👍🏻

I like this game but its not the first game in the franchise that didn't use or require turn based combat. There was Apocalypse where battles could be played in real time or tun based, there was Interceptor where you were an X-com space force sector commander and personally flew fighters on missions, and there was Enforcer which was a shooter but vastly inferior to this game IMO.
What's interesting is looking through the canceled X-Com games section of Wikipedia it sounds like X-Com Alliance would have had gameplay similar to this though the setting would have been very different since it would have been set a century later in another solar system, or group of solar systems.
I’ve just looked up x-com Alliance and it sounds exactly like the sequel I would have liked this game to have had, it is such a shame it wasn’t made. Definitely an incredibly mid game IMO. Not the worst, just mid. And because it tried to turn a beloved series into a third person shooter (yes I know that already happened with Enforcer), it's such an defining game for this era to me. An era where every game had to be the exact same consolized nonsense, where even classic franchises had to be turned into console shooters just for the sake of it. Games from this era bring back depressing feelings that I don't want to experience again.
Again, definitely not the worst game ever. Just a very mid game and not a very well thought out project. If this wasn't (tangentially) tied to the XCOM franchise even I would have forgotten about it I think.
It's definitely better than X-COM: Enforcer, that's for sure :)
It was definitely at a time when as you say third person shooters were everywhere, and I think the reason it wasn’t successful enough is because a lot of xcom fans didn’t want the change from the traditional turn based formula which is understandable. I know the game has its flaws but it is one of my favourite 7th gen games, maybe its the setting and story I like so much, or maybe I just need to play some more games 🤣

lol it's been long enough now for people to try to gaslight you into thinking that x-com the burean was brilliant and forgotten.
No gaslighting I promise, I genuinely believe it is a brilliant game even with it having some flaws, but we are all different people with different tastes, one of the great things about gaming is there is something for everyone 😀👍🏻

It's a very sub-par game. There's a good reason why it is "forgotten". It never was good or popular to begin with, especially bearing the title X-Com

LOL xcom and xcom 2 are NOT difficult. There are soooooooooooo many "get out of jail for free" skills that you would have to be a moron to have a character killed in a mission.
