Even in amatuer bjj the ped issue is quite common in my country, some people do anything to win a 50 cent medal.

I’m 60 and a smaller *all natural* black belt at a very big school. One of my fellow BB buddies told me that at the World Masters FIVE YEARS AGO that he ended up talking to about 14 of his fellow competitors in like the senior 5 or 6 category, and only himself and three others were not on TRT. This PEDs business is even in old guy divisions. It’s ridiculous. Sure they’re not taking TRT for the same reasons Galvao or one of his colleagues are using HGH or whatever drug they’re preferring, but they’re still looking for an edge. The guys I know on the T are all younger and not as technique, strategy or improvisational skills obsessed it seems to me. Several are BBs but I don’t know… I feel like the only weirdo constantly talking about the quest for a deeper understanding of the physics side of jiu-jitsu which they often misconstrue as old man trickery when giving me a post-roll compliment.
Excellent discussion. I personally don’t think it’s cheating as long as they are honest about it. If people fee it’s an issue, perhaps have “natural” and tested federations. It’s what they do in other sports like powerlifting and it works quite well.
It goes without saying but as Ryan alluded to, the definition of ‘cheating’ is exercising an ‘unfair’ advantage against the competition. Not saying it’s right but it’s not ‘unfair’ if the majority of the competition is already exercising said ‘unfair advantage’ against you. - leveling the playing field is not ‘unfair’.
My biggest issue is people who use PEDs like EPO can train longer and harder. If the average BJJ practitioner had the ability to train 2x as hard and as often their skills would be night and day - so it makes it hard to tell how good would even the technique of a grappler would be without PEDs
I think you're right..Most elite levels will have doping.. Especially after 23 to 25 years old
So.if they think its ok then make amped class and natural class. Because not all PED. I am too small in sport and will not take any.

I know what you mean but, what about ethics? values? honor? I mean, even not winning I'd like learning from a person/instructor who really cares about traditional teachings, purest technique, ettiquete and so on. I could not care less about a dam* tournament, prizes, winning. Maybe that is the reason I follow your channel. I'm not into jiu jitsu for the "fancy" stuff. A good "porrada" is more than enough for me. Earning every single stripe by sweat, blood, pain. It is some sort of a character development journey. Also, I believe It applies to any given sport. That's is the reason I quit watching/following "Tour of France" because it has become a cheating contest I.E. Getting the top tier PDE's, hiding tiny little silent motors into the bicycles. Same with most professional sports, I watch 'em just for the sake of excitement but believing nothing I see, pretty much like professional wrestling or a soap opera. I mean, not only PDE's but gambling getting involved in fixing results.

I feel like at the amateur level, PED use is common but misguided. BJJ is so heavily skill based that it's like trying to use steroids to win a chess match, the more skilled guy will win regardless. You just can't put on enough tissue inside a single weight class to make a difference in that.

Steriods are most definitely cheating. Not eveyones body responses to steriods in the same way. At what age does one start steriods to get more training time in? Caught once banned for life, short amount of jail time, and major fines. That would end this BS. 😂
