    I honestly think that people who lose their drones either fly rashly or do not have the proper settings when they fly

      Brandon Consigliere , it is an argument. I agree that many or most do lose their drones when they fly rashly or without proper settings. But these things aren't foolproof either. I know from experience.

      Of course, if something's wrong with the drone (which is like 1% of the time) you'll crash. But if you have VLOS or are not flying above water you'll find your drone 99% of the time. It's those who "fly rashly" that tend to lose drones. I'm with him/her on this one.

    • @70Marc
      @70Marc Před 3 lety

      Briana Oliver , I have a Phantom P330, that flew perfectly for 200+ flights. Then one day, no fault of mine, it took off on its own. Found it, sent for repairs, flew 100+ more flights, then crashed again.
      Hopefully these (esp Mini2) have better software, connectivity and it won't happen again. I do all my preflight checks diligently.
      Of course there's all kinds of people that fly, drive, etc recklessly.

    This is really helpful. I am terrified of losing my drone especially as I live in a city with lots of flat roofs. So far, I have not flown more than 2,000 metres. It is also really cold - typically around minus 10 centigrade (although it can get to -40C so I am not complaining) so flight time is reduced to around 20 minutes

    I'm glad that you were able to recover it, good news. I've been doing range tests with my Mini 1, 4220 m so far (I'm in Chile), and I have my plan B all set in advance. I've explored the emergency landing site, so I know the spot I'm going to land at in case the battery runs out. My only concern is, what if I lose connection while the drone is descending, with, say, 6% battery left?, will the RTH activate and send it away to land somewhere else?, is it possible to change the RTH setting to "descend" in mid-flight?. Well, lots of questions :)

    I found out that the Mini 2 actually has a little gas in the tank even though it may hit the 0% mark. I was able to fly 732m(2400ft) on 0%. The drone was trying to land but I was pushing up on the stick which kept my altitude and I was pushing forward on the right stick to keep it moving forward. I was over the middle of a river and was trying to get to the other side so that I could retrieve it. It just kept flying. The forward speed dropped to about 5.4m/s(12mph) but it kept flying so I kept bringing it home hoping to get as close to me as possible. Well it made it back to to me and I landed it in my hand and immediately shut it down so not to damage battery. Turns out the battery is fine and all is well, but there was a definite pucker factor during all of this. It was only my second flight of the drone. Learned a valuable lesson that day. I think DJI might have built in some padding on the battery info. They must know that some of us are gong to ignore that warning light on the dash that it's time for gas. At any rate I WOULD NOT recommend that anyone fly at 0% like I did. It was terrifying.

Usually I have one flight with my Mavic Mini and get an impression, then I take out the Mini 2 as I have the Fly More Combo for it and fly 3 times for about 10 minutes! I like to always have my batteries at between 60 and 72 percent, storage voltage! This way they will get very very slow degeneration and will be healthy for a long long time. Wow that was almost certainly gonna be a one way flight at that distance with a slight side angle tail wind. 16m/s on the outward flight and down to 10m/s on the way back. I reckon 4km is about the limit on a calm day to get back again. You sound calm on the voice over but I'm guessing it was a scary time for you.. Its a great what not to do video, being more aware and checking wind direction and shear, but keeping calm is key. Maybe you could of lowered the altitude even more and kept pushing up forward on the sticks to get you that little bit closer. Rather than running a quarter marathon to hope its not been taken 😱. Wind didn't change so I put it in S mode and wanted to get back faster. At 15% it decided to go into auto-land mode! Thought I had till 10%! It forced itself down but got to the beach - but 1500 m away. And since I was in a remote area without a cell signal... had one when I started.... and I forgot to cache maps.... find my drone did not work. Thankfully I memorized the land it was going down to and found it... but was pretty nervous someone would find it before me... Not sure why it forced itself down at 15%, and I think it uses alot more power in S mode than N or C modes...

      Correct but Issue with descending too much like I mentioned in the video is you could lose signal a lot and gain more interference.

    Its just dumb to run the batteries so low. Been flying for 2 years and not one time I have been in danger of running out of battery

    Click bait or what! 😁. You weren’t even over the water. Ether way you did well. Do recon you could of just made it back though with a bit of drip in altitude And possibly flying in normal mode? Glad you got it back fella

      Thank you buddy! Descending is always advisable but from a distance you loose signal a lot lower

    You can fly further in N mode, you would have likely made it back if you did that 🙈

    Hey Buddy. You would have been better off flying in normal mode. Would have lost much less battery. Please redo test in normal mode.

    Just bad piloting. Can’t understand why you continued to stay over the water with low battery warning.
