Dji coats the boards with a water proof sealant. You can actually fly them in the rain. Its not recommended but can be done without hurting the drone. My guess is he recovered the drone and it still works.
Hi as a fellow drone owner (Mavic Air 2S And Mavic 3) and a Part 107 licensed pilot I’m so sorry this happened and hope you were able to get down there and recover it. I feel for you and unlike some of these idiots on here would never make fun of what happened. All the best and again I hope you got it back.
Sorry to see this disaster Joseph. I’ve lost one in the sea and flew sideways into a tree, luckily I recovered the second drone. Did you manage to recover yours from the lake?
On similar case scenarios, a Mini 4 PRO will save many drone pilots from a tragic loss like this. Thank you for sharing this as well as for the incredible capability of this tiny peace of advanced technology to survive underwater.
Oh wow! 😶🌫⛅I wasn't expecting that much footage at the end! did you have to download that from UAS or did you have an SD card in your controller? I've lost at good amount of propellers learning to pilot and running into trees. Speaking of nature, what a beautiful ravine! ☁😶🌫☁😶🌫✈
Hey bud, sorry for your loss. That's the worry when flying sideways. I dove my Mavic Mini-1 twice in fresh water. I immediately took it inside and stuck a hair dryer up it's butt for an hour. I then put in a fresh battery and flew like nothing happened. Thanks for sharing!
Would the mini 3 pro have avoided this? I understand that it doesn't have horizontal sensor detection, but would the peripheral version of the sensors have picked up the branches and stopped?
The mini 3 (pro) has no sideways sensors so it will not pick this up. The Mavic 3 (now called "classic") has 360 degree sensors, but still has trouble picking up those thin branches so it might crash just as well.
Incredible how this Mini drone comtinued to record submerged, I guess freshwater? Hopedully you recovered and learnt that flying sideways without having good awareness of the drones surroundings is hazardous⚠️😲 I've added your channel, hopefully you'll connect with another Mini drome pilot?
Flying sideways will get you every time, same thing happened to me a couple of months ago but luckily landed upside down in the grass and only broke two props .

Not necessarily; I have refresh- used it once for a crash and they sent me a new drone, no charge. Then, I crashed it into the river filming kayakers, they wanted me to file a flyaway so I did. That one cost me 500 bucks.
So what I'm gathering is get the "refresh". I'm looking to get my first drone soon. How much extra is it to get the " refresh " and what exactly is it ?
I get the impression you were flying sideways and there are no sensors on the side. Is this correct? I'm interested because I have ordered a drone and am watching videos on it and trying to learn including by mistakes. Thanks for the video and I'm sorry it crashed.
You are right, the DJI Mini 3 doesn´t have any avoid obstacle sensors but downwards. The Mini 3 Pro has forward, aft and downward sensors (they may detect obstacles up on some angles tho), but not side sensors. To have 360º protection youn need to upgrade to the Mavic 3 series. On many models sensors are off when flying in Sport Mode, so ir really doesn´t matter...
So there are some 2 part hyperbolic sprays you guys can probably use to temporarily waterproof your camera internals by taking the drone apart and coating them or dipping the boards in resin and letting them dry lol
You can fly sideways no worries with that, but you should know your route ... the obstacles around your path and if possible fly with a line of sight .. I guess he got glued onto the scenery that the drone was taking and likely forgot to observe his environment as the mini 3 got no side sensors ...
well damn soo sorry for ur drone u got some great footage tho. u know what i do when im around water i hover and spin around so i see where to fly because that thing is literally over $1k it hurts to just see it under water....
This is a great example of why you always have your drone in line of sight at all times, especially if your drone doesn’t have the necessary optical avoidance sensor capabilities to keep it from running into obstacles.
I've had this happen los. The depth of field isn't great at distance when the drone is facing you and especially when tree branches are bare (ghost branch).. A foot here and there can ground ya. Say'n. Thanks for posting OP.
Did you get it out of the water? You have to be very cautious when flying close to objects especially sideways. I have both mini 3 and mini 3 pro I love both drones. I’m uploading a video from my mini 3 now from a flight across town today. Great little drone
