TMR's astonishing skill in video games should not be discredited because it's a "video game". The amount of hand-eye coordination, memorization, determination, and patience, literally make this a sport. He's like a freaking olympic champion. While gaming isn't necessarily a sport of muscle strength, it requires a tremendous amount of skill to accomplish what he has accomplished. Simply put, have the average joe try to complete all licensed NES games, or attain speedrun records, or complete a no-hit battletoads run. We're talking a 0% success rate for ANYONE else. It's something the average person or average gamer, with years or decades of practice will never be able to do. The patience alone to accomplish these feats... It's crazy though, as I think we're all desensitized to incredible human feats having seen literally any thing and everything on CZcams. What TMR has done in the world of gaming still ranks as among one of the greatest feats of skill in human history.
Thank you for this very kind and explanatory comment, as you stated a lot of people don't even realize all the things involved into the feats I have accomplished. I am happy with what I have done in my gaming career, specially for my favorite console (NES) and for my favorite game which obviously is Battletoads.

Do not discredit the man. This is an accomplishment, through and through. Some of the most difficult videogames ever have been on the NES, completing them normally is hard enough as it is. Now to do a feat like this... this doesn't just rely on rhythm, it's concentration, dedication, coordination, pressure management and audience control. Where can you find all these qualities? Oh yeah, Olympic athletes, and none of them do things blindfolded.
@@moonsover3263 The problem with Turbo Tunnel (and Volcano Core) is that the last hardest part has increasing speed/lower times to react. You not only have to feel the rythm, You have to adapt to changing rythm as well.
Man, I'm watching this for like the fifth time and my heartrate STILL goes up when he realizes he's going to pull it off. I can't imagine how lightheaded he must have gotten at that moment.
I was really excited, it was incredible, specially since it was done in a live marathon.
@@TheMexicanRunner I honestly don't think it's even possible for another marathon moment to top it, especially for someone like me who grew up playing Battletoads and knows first hand what it was like grinding that level over and over and over again just to be able to clear it once. Maybe if someone beats SMB1 blindfolded on their first try at a marathon they'll top this, but I don't think it's likely.

In the end, the ones who do the really complicated things in both prove that those who can memorize the really hard ones also have insane skill. That skill is acquired by endless hours of repetitive practice until their muscle memory and working off audio/visual cues has become second nature. So yes, it absolutely is a skill, in the same way playing the piano is. Here we have someone playing a particularly difficult piece (requiring very accurate timings) without visual cues, which is amazing.
Such a huge achievement at such an event, huge congrats for amazing blindfolded run!

I love watching blindfold speedruns, this blew me away, one of the hardest parts in one of the hardest NES games, first try, no deaths, awesome job.
It legitimately feels satisfying when the enemy dialogue and the scientist whooping it up sync up with what he actually did to beat that level.

I can't imagine going through that last section normally, much less while *blindfolded*. That is some seriously impressive stuff!
My brothers and I used to play this game a lot on the NES when I was a teenager. Took us a while but eventually we beat it, because we were young, persistent ,didn’t have a lot of other stuff to do and because the game is so awesome. Although the Turbo Tunnel is one of the harder levels it’s really doable, since the sequence and placement of objects is fixed and after trying long enough some muscle memory will form and it will become easier. It would be really brutal though when a randomizer would be used.
I had never noticed the face of the guy beside him when he finishes the stage. Amazing! :D

It's... strange, isn't it? In one sense, this is such a small, insignificant act - you beat a level in a video game with a blindfold on. There's no objective importance to it. And some people will write it off as nothing more than that. Because it's "just a video game." Yet the magnitude of effort, patience, and skill needed to make it happen makes this a monumental achievement, worthy of being compared to any olympic performance. This is an accomplishment. A genuine accomplishment. You have proven, beyond any doubt, that you are one of the best on the entire planet Earth at what you do.
well, from people like me, who really struggled with turbo tunnels back in the day, or anyone who played this game, this will bring out amazement of this... understandably people who never played it will never understand how amazing this is..
