Yaesu FT-817 ND Series PA Finals Board Episode
This 5w QRP transceiver has been around for about 20 years but I've only just discovered it. I think it's brilliant and I want to share with you what I've found out about setting up and using the FT-817ND. In this video I show how I removed and replaced the PA Final Board to get it back to full power.
00:00 Introduction
02:20 Accessing the PA PCB section
03:43 Checking the layout
04:53 Removing the Finals Board
07:54 Fitting the new Finals Board

Another great Video and it seems that you invested in some very decent recording and lighting equipment. That gives us all hope that we can expect some more of this well prepared content. My FT818 works just fine but I wil keep the Video in mind should a repair be required.
Great video ❤. The 817 is such a work horse of a rig.
👍 Glad that the fix worked out. Thanks for posting.
Good video❗️👍73 KV5P
Excellent Many thanks
I've got the ft818nd why when I get to about 200 cnl on lsb, or 350 usb, it says TX ERROR
You may try transmit of out band?
Where did you purchase the finals board? I need to replace mine as well. Thanks for the great video!
Glad you liked the video, thanks - board from Radioworld www.radioworld.co.uk/yaesu-finalpa-unit-for-ft-817818-cb1333005 - hope it goes well!
Hi ! I have 2 FT-817nd that put out 3.5w on vhf 144 and 4.6 on uhf 440 ... power meter goe full on uhf and half on vhf when tranmitting . Should i be worried ?
Do you have a decent power meter? Many power/swr -meters are not accurate between VHF and UHF. I have tested this radio with a spectrum analyzer, and the output was exactly 5W (FM) on both bands.
If only there was a 10 or 20 watt drop in power board then I reckon a lot more of us FT817 owners would be doing this :) de G6PBS
Why then buy an FT817 if you want more power?

Hi….would you mind giving me the name of the soldering station as well as the type of solder…lead-free or lead? 73 Rob wd4ift.
Yes of course - Hakko 951 soldering station (beware of cheap fakes!), with soldering iron FM2028 and Micro soldering iron FM2032. To remove the capacitor I added unleaded (low melt) solder to each side before removing it, to make them melt more easily, but all the solder joints were fixed with unleaded solder. If you are going to do something similar, then my recommendation is to use plenty of flux - it transforms the whole business of soldering. Thanks for watching, hope it was helpful, best wishes from Mort / G4BSK
How much did the board cost?
About 50 usd equivalent...(purchased in the UK)
