      The leds are polarity currently put in and aren’t cheap leds either but they keep doing this for some reason.....

    The use of a multimeter can tell you the polarity of the bulb connections, so no guess work needed. As you said, LED's are polarity sensitive, so they need to be hooked up appropriately.

    Just a tip: after taking the cluster apart you can plug just the board in and turn the key to illuminate the board. Use a multimeter to determine positive. On those particular leds the side with the resistor is the positive...i did this on my 07 sonata and its beautiful

    When I did mine once I took it apart I plugged it back in to the truck and then took one LED bulb and touched it on each contact to find the positive, then I put a little black dot on the board next to the positive solder contact, then I did it to all of them, that way I would know where all the positive solder contacts were on the board and my LEDs had one wire longer than the other which was the positive

  • @SurferJoe46
    @SurferJoe46 Před 6 lety

    I did this same repair and changed the incandescent bulbs for LEDs and I learned a trick with the LEDs to check polarity.
    Leave the legs long and just solder them onto the PCB to see which ones work and which do not. Then just shorten the legs to fit the board, re-soldering them in the correct position. That way you can be assured that they are OK before you finish the job.
    Save the original bulbs for other projects where GM says you can't buy the bulbs any more - and local parts houses say they never did exist anyway.
    BTW: I had ZERO problems with sync-ing the needles the first time.

    How did u cut the gauge cluster to give off that ring of light? around the instruments?

    • @kyleverhelle8000
      @kyleverhelle8000 Před 5 lety

      Saahaj Mattey pretty sure it’s factory like that, looks that way in the video cuz he doesn’t have the final cover over it yet and that covers those rings of light

    why you have to replace stepper motor? Is it mandatory to change the lights?

    Led has positive and negative... the longer ones are ur positive. And then Google a diagram for which is po/neg for ur board.

    I didn't see a check engine light when you turned on the ignition? especially with the reduce power readout

    How about a video on how to rebuild the original gauges in a 52 Pontiac Chieftain? Is that possible?

    • @DEBOSSGARAGE

      Check out our 48 fleetmaster build series. I think I went over the gauges there and it should be similar. Unfortunately it is very specific to a very small amount of people so it isn't a high priority video

    I ordered the same package with the same led's. I have a question, on some other vids I noticed that they soldered on resistors. Do these led's that you used need resistors?

    • @DEBOSSGARAGE
      @DEBOSSGARAGE  Před 8 lety

      +Javier Pinedo I don't think so. I soldered them on and they work fine.

    • @Javier-tp1mr
      @Javier-tp1mr Před 8 lety

      Cool bro thanks. I did read that some led's do not need resistors. Are they still working? How long have they been running?

    • @DEBOSSGARAGE
      @DEBOSSGARAGE  Před 8 lety

      They are working great. You might be thinking of using LED's for turn signal lights. A lot of Flasher units rely on the resistance of the bulbs to trip the flasher. Since LED's don't have the same resistance, your flashers will stop working. I know that on some cars, if you replace the brake lights with LED's without using resistors, the brake light won't go off (Subaru's for sure). If anything, the LED flasher indicators would be the only ones I can think of.

      speedometer does but the odometer reading follows the cluster

      make sure its calibrated first should be plug and play. part numbers need to match. info on back of cluster usually.
