- In this video I did another GM truck cluster. 03-07 Silverado/Sierra. I Know this is repeat of other repairs I have done in the past but I spent more time filming and editing. I decided to cover start to finish in this video.

Ok Guys. CZcams loves this video for some reason. check out my newer videos they are much better! I got a new Microphone.
Can I mail you my cluster so you can upgrade mine?
@@showtime203bullies yeah. My email is on. The about section of the channel. You have to use a PC to see it (that's just how CZcams works)
@@FixedUntilBroken ok cool
Can I send you my cluster to get it fixed
I actually came upon this video by accident ☺️
I have a 2005 Chevy Silverado, identical instrument cluster.
The oil pressure gauge doesn't indicate anything just stays at rest.
The guys I bought the truck from had used it at our job as a delivery vehicle so I never saw it work, even after they replaced the Pressure sender on the engine.
Is it simply the gauge motor?
🤷🏼♂️ I'd sure like it to work ☺️ I have very limited experience with electronic stuff
I'm assuming it's easier and safer to have someone else with the experience and tools necessary to do the repair 😏
Do you still work on these instrument clusters?
Thank you for the information, I have an 05 Silverado with the same cluster and was nervous about taking it apart. but after seeing how easy they come apart I feel confident in preforming the repair myself.
I like how you explained as you went so I knew what you were talking about. I also like how you didn't speed everything up as you done it so I was able to see the method used. I'm thinking of trying to fix it myself now rather then sending it off. Thank you, I appreciate it
No problem. I'm glad you liked it.
Great video, my 03 Tahoe cluster was turning off and on then it just stopped turning on, I re-flowed mine and I worked and hasn’t skipped a beat. Thank you
Hey man. Awesome video. Thank you for all the knowledge.
I did EXACTLY as you did, and at my last step i realized I DONT HAVE A TESTER 😬🥺🤣🤣
Now im gonna install it then put needles on, hopefully it works and gives me good readings😎😎
Wish me luck.
AND TNK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THIS VIDEOS 😉 🏆🏆🏆👍👍.
GREAT video esp showing how to calibrate the needles to the 0 stops!!! THANKS!
Glad to help
What's the calibration if they are at an odd starting point. Speedometer says like 21 mph and gas is all the way next to the warning light.
Nice jobs man!!! Look super simple!! Gonna try it out tomorrow! Wish me luck😂
Good luck. It's really not too bad
Outstanding video.
Thank you!
I like your set up!
Thank you.
Nice video 👍
Thank you. I put a lot more effort into this one.
Very nice video! Can you advise where to make the temporary 12v connections to test the instrument cluster?
The original dashboard studies found the the greenish color is easier for people to see, especially for older drivers.
Reds and blues are harder for eyes to focus onto
That looks great now
great video
Thank you for the video!!
what pins do you have connected for everything on the cluster to power it on ? turn signals and everything
I don’t trust myself soldering but I appreciate you showing the process.
No problem! I love making these videos.
Very useful. My tach and oil pressure gauges weren't working at all and the fuel and water temp gauges were intermittent. I ordered a kit from Amazon with stepper motors, the plastic pry bar you see in this video and some bulbs (not LEDs) that I didn't use. I have small pry bars but they are metal; the plastic pry bar is very useful to keep from marring the overlay when removing the needles. It's important to use a solder sucker (I have a manual one, not the automatic one he uses). It to keep from messing up the pads when you desolder them. None of my pads got damaged. I did unbend the motor leads back to vertical (breaking the last bit of solder contact with the pad) and then used a small side cutter to cut them even with the back of the circuit board before pulling the motors out from the front. I didn't re-flow any solder joints. Before removing the needles rotate them to the left until they stop and then mark that spot with painter's tape so you know where to put the needle when you put it back together (I got that from another video).
That was a bit drastic 😂
What is that distribution block you have connected with your power supply?
Awesome description of your work as you were doing it I really appreciate the professionalism in not condemning others work on their previous repairs, I have an 2005 GMC Sierra that I did all this on around 6 years ago as well as adding the trans temp as I was told it would work if I added it however I quickly discovered that the 05 and newer need to have a switch electronically switched on and as I have no way to do that I have never been able to see that function, is this something that you can do if I send my cluster to you?
Any chance you could make a video on how you built your bench test plug?
Can you please let me know what kind of led go in the indicator lights ( tow, abs, turn signal, in a 2002 silverado?
Have a 04 Silverado, only backlights that aren’t working is the ones for the speedometer, think it’s just the lights burned out? Or could there be more of an issue ?
What temp you like to solder at? When I was building racing drones, I found soldering hot and fast was best. If you had the iron a bit too cold, you’d have to hold it to the pcb too long and that’s when you would lift pads.
Good video. 👍
How do you know what side is positive and negative on the bulbs
What’s the diagnosis if the needles on the instrument cluster look like they are going hay wore when you first turn key to start up the engine
Hey man thanks so much for your video, I got everything working on mine, except now the check engine light doesn't come on anymore lol. Not when I start the truck nor when I first power the cluster on. Not a big deal since it stays on all the time anyway just would like to fix it while everything is apart. Got any ideas? Thanks in advance!
I have a question. My 2005 Silverado 1500 doesn't have a Transmission Temperature gauge on it. Obviously the circuits are there for it to work on this panel. Is the sensor in my truck? If I install the motor on the board will it work?
I have a airbag light on, can I just take it out or will it mess with other things
What wattage soldering iron are you typically using?
My process was not near as nicely done as yours but I got it done! Haha I appreciate the video. It helped a lot. I have 1 question. I replaced the stepper motors successfully and the bulbs as well. When I apply power to the bulbs(out of the truck) they work. I used a 9v battery with 2 wires for a quick test. But once I install the cluster in the truck - the gauges work but the new bulbs don’t come on. Do you have any idea what could be the cause?
At 1st glance I thought this one was mine that I did but it had regular bulbs and you said it had nasty solder joints so I knew it wasnt. I had the really nice solding. Haha.
Plus this video is from more than a year ago. for some reason youtube loves this video and pushes it out a lot.
Like the new camera looks good
Thank you.
How come you don’t have a link for those quality led bulbs. Is it hard to add a trans temperature on the bottom left corner?
I have an 06 Duramax and my lower screen is intermittent. It looks dfferent than the back of the one you are working on. What area should I look for that has bad solder joints?
What stepper motor calibration tool tool kit do you guys use is it homemade or bought?
Hi Jason I’d be willing to pay you to walk me through what’s wrong with my 2007 Silverado 2500 classic diesel everything works except the doc display I just replaced all my bulbs but can’t see what’s wrong with the dic, Tia.
what LEDs do you use or recommend?
How hot should the iron be?
Where can I get the leds? And I found some wide angle leds that can take 3v is that okayy???
Do you have a video that shows how to power them up? i have plenty of pigtails from them i can use but no idea where to put power. thanks!
You mean a DC power supply?
I can't tell if you are pulling off the bulbs at the base or cutting some wire. Also, It seems that next to the spot where each bulb goes, there are different numbers, is every bulb different in some way?
Where did you get the blue LEDs, and can you get green
What was the purpose with the jumper wire coming off that stepper motor I couldn't see where that was being soldered
do i need resistors for an 05 led upgrade
Do you have a video showing how to make test switch?
Question. I purchased a cluscluster that was got 03 to 07 silverado HD models no steering control center. My truck is an 05 silverado non HD. Also without steer control center. I got this because it had the transmission temp gauge. The problem I'm having is at startup I get a service brake booster. My brake booster is new and has no error with the original cluster. It's looking for something that comes with HD models. Is there away to remove this? I've read that I would need to go to dealer so they can reprogram for my truck.
For the steering wheel controls, do you have a video on adding that to a cluster that doesn’t have them or can you not do that
i believe my " engine light light bulb " is out in the cluster. do you know what kind of light that is?
How you power up the cluster
Do you still repair instrument cluster for silverado? need my repaired and bulbs upgraded. Cant find a address for you
What are the part numbers of the led lights?
does anyone know how to do the engine light seatbelt turn signal all the other lights a different color too?
The only thing not working on mine is the shifting light what could case that?
How much u charge to fix a cluster motor went out
2005 Yukon XL SLT here--What would make the message center (below the PRNDL) remain dim all the time? Currently, the PRNDL does not work at all & the Message Center is so dim that you can only see it at night or on a dark stormy day.
Love your videos! What would cause my battery light to stay on. Volts fluctuating between 12.8 and 14.7. I replaced my cluster with one from wrecked 2005 Cadillac. I drive a 2005 chevy 1500
I just didn’t motors in my trailblazer but I was going to use led lights n plugged it in to test which way they went but the kept blowing my original lights work but I wanted blue ones what type of light are you useing are they 12v and where can I buy a bunch of them I want to do my other cars too I had really good luck with the stepper motors with a solder sucker by hand and took all my lights out and had to put them back in because I think the leds were like 2.3 v
I want to replace the led bulbs with OEM incandescent bulbs. I can't find what bulbs to use. I want to do the cluster and climate control. Can you tell me where to find the bulbs.
where are you getting quality stepper motors and LEDs?
Do you do rebuilds still?
What solder you using
Just found your video. I am needing repair on my 2003 cluster. All of a sudden nothing works except for the check engine light. My starter gear was sticking and it caught on the flywheel for a second and then nothing with the cluster was working. The speedo is stuck on 50mph and the RPM is stuck at 1500.
Do you have the gauge face with the trans temp? How much for a rebuild with leds, steppers, and trans temp? My gauges are also a tiny bit off where they should be... turn around time? Thank you!
What year is yours? They take me an hour for local drop off and shipping depends on how you ship it for mail in repairs.
I have a 2005 silverado cluster that needs repair. Do you still do that, and how much?
So I went into my 05 Sierra and changed the lights that were out to leds. I followed everything you did in this video and when I got done resoldering (reflowing) the components to make my PRND display show up all the gauges and BOTH displays were not working. Could it possibly be that I need to touch up my resoldering job? Is there a way to reset my instrument cluster?
Have the same problem but don’t know what it is
I want red where everything is white. Now how to change those green displays? Is there polarized film on them? Almost want to try red brake light tape over it. I'm not digging the bright blue highbeam indicator either. Probably red tape it too. lol
Hey, I have a 2005 Dirty max, I. need to get my cluster repair. I heard I could put a Cadillac's cluster on instead of instead of my original.
I also would like to keep the same miles.
How do you tell the correct polarity on the circuit board. I know the longer side on the bulb is positive. Haven't opened mine up yet so I don't know if the board has an indication of positive and negative. Thank you
As you can see in the video the circuit board has no indication. You will have to plug it into to the truck and check with your multimeter
What kind of solder sucker iron are you using? It beats the heck out of a solder gun then holding a separate solder sucker. Thanks for any info.
The one in this video is the Anesty branded one I used to have. It lasted me about 2 years with heavy use. I now have a hakko desoldering gun
Do you have a new memory chip for the 2005 Silverado HD? I like to buy one my chip is bad. The problem is (Odometer Error) the U15 chip my chip is empty from line 80 on down therefore copying it to a new chip is pointless so where can I download a good file from?
Hey had a question regarding this 05 board. I am Trying to do a repair and upgrade the bulbs. Reason being the all the back lighting on the board is dead what could be a cause of this the vfw is fine and all the info lights are working. Thanks!
Headlight dimmer switch should fix the light bulbs not working on the cluster and if the rest of the interior lights don't work
damn i wish i knew you because i would love this done to my 03 silverado
Well if you still need one done I take mail ins
@@FixedUntilBroken I'm interested.🤚🏻 I purchased a "rebuild" cluster, ac control and headlight switch off of someone in FB but turned out faulty...
What leds do you use for your blinkers and the other dash lights light your check engine
Did you end up finding those LEDs?
What voltage is required to power up the gauges to verify quality of work?
12v-14v DC
Have you done pure white on a 03-06 cluster?? Ive seen some but light comes out light blue
Unless I buy the inlay for it I won't do them. I don't like sanding the stock ones but you can get them with clear scales from china
The cluster will come on, then goes out again. I resoldered all the spots. Still having the same problem. Thanks
I'm looking to get this done to my 03 could I send it to you?
Same 😅
Where you from? I have same problem in my truck
Thanks!
I’m new to your channel and am in need of my 01 Silverado cluster to be repaired, how do I get ahold of you so ship it to have you repair it?
Have you ever felt with a truck cluster with dic because I have the controls but when I press them nothing pops up on the cluster
Probably not the original cluster to the truck. It's a software feature on the cluster. If someone swaps them then it might not have the software on it.
i bought a cluster from a 12-01 escalade for my 02 gmc sierra 2500 hd..... its got the hook up on the very back but up top as possible..... i been told the power & the message center won't work cus of the wrong plug in.............. so what yr., of the right escalade do i need to get the one that has the hook- up on the very top side of it all..... i also need it to have the white lil disc's ( stepper motor's ) in it not the coiled copper one's................................... i need some wisdom here plzzzzz !!!!!
I'm not completely understanding what you mean but if you're truck has plug all the way in the back of the cluster it's an 03+ if it's on the top it's an 99-02.
I had mine rebuilt, however it still isn’t working properly. I suspect one of the wires is shorted. Do you a graph showing the pin usage? I have check engine light and blinkers. Not much else… TIA
If you need the pin out it shows up on Google easily. I can't post pictures in the comment section on CZcams but Google will turn it up. What you are sounds like you have an issue in the power supply section of the circuit board. What you are describing is the microcontroller is not turning on.
You should contact whoever did the work. They should have a warranty and cover the repair. It's 98% chance that's a faulty repair. If they refuse to honor a warranty I repair them for $100 plus shipping
Hello, how can i get you to fix my cluster .05 chevy silverado. Please let me know..
Ron
When you say turn it on. If the cluster where in the vehicle would that be two clicks forward as in key on engine off
Other then that question, super informative video and extremely proficient. New sub thanks for the great videos
Not sure about the question it's kind of out of context but I think has to do with powering it vs just battery. Yes to turn the cluster on the truck needs to be in the run position. I don't think accessory turns it on but it's been a while since I have actually been inside one of these trucks I just do them on my bench. Going off memory here.
Glad you like the channel and thank you for subscribing!
It all sounds and looks great BUT demo is too fast especially when soldering bulbs.
I have no idea what two pods are you solder the bulb wires to or what kind/type of bulbs they are for a 05 Silverado. There seem to be so many out there but which one is the correct one is beyond me, or the name.
A little help please.
In the end as long the led is rated to 12/14v your fine. The LEDs I used in the video are known as 3smd in eBay no brand name. Cube LEDs from sunled work good too
What are you charging for a rebuild , my father is needing this done to his 05 Duramax ? Do you have led's that more white than blue or the natural cluster color ?
For a more original look I recommend against LEDs so it will dim at the same rate as everything and the color will match perfectly. To answer the question though $80 plus shipping
Do you offer repair service?
If you still reply maybe you have an idea?
All indicator lights, warnings and Icons all light up and can be controlled by the headlight dimmer switch (just replaced today) The instruments all work correctly, needles move in correct mode. . The lights that back illuminate the gauges do not light up. I need to turn up the cabin light to see the needle positions while driving. No bad head or tail lights. Every other light or icon are working well .
Vehicles is a 2005 GMC 1500 Sierra
Did you put the led backwards?
Hey there. What's the liquid you pour on the board?
Ipa or defluxer I was using ipa but since covid I can't get it locally so I just ordered defluxer instead.
Do you know which leds are used for the other alarms (seatbelt, low fuel level light, e brake, check engine, etc etc)?
Like what type of light? It's a 3528 smd.
@@FixedUntilBroken yes what type. All are 3528 except the backlighting and turn signals ?
@@FixedUntilBroken and do you know if they’re plcc2 or plcc4?
@@AlexRodriguez-pg9xk plcc2 for the 03-07 stuff.
@@FixedUntilBroken thank you !
Just found this video and this is Exacaly what my cluster is doing the prnd arent working.. just curious how much would this package cost me if your still doing these jobs.. Leds and all. Basically the same setup i got an 05. Thanj yoy
To just redo the circuit board and add LEDs your looking at $80 plus shipping
@@FixedUntilBroken could you do this job to 2 of my clusters ? do you have a instagram or a ebay or something ???
What’s your contact information? Thank you.
I recently bought a 2003 Tahoe. It looks like I have BO bulbs behind the Water Temperature and Voltmeter gauges. They don't light up at night with the truck's lights on. I see now I can't just reach behind the dash and twist out a 168 bulb and change it. This is way more complicated than I want to deal with.
I have a 2005 Tahoe
1. What State are you located in?
2. What's the cost to replace the cluster's light w/blue leds
3. How long will it take to do?
I'm in Florida. It's $80 + shipping. I normally get stuff done the same day I get them in. Main time factor is shipping it can be overnight if you want to pay the shipper that much or 3-5 days ea way. Most people just use speedo apps on there phone while the cluster is out.
have a no start which i dont comprehend! i thought vehicles run without clusters! mine dont! everything works all lights and gauges except odometer says miles when to try start for two seconds then i hear static noise and miles go to error!!!!!! car wont start no click nothing! helpppppp!!! any ideas resistors inside cluster or what to look for i see nothing burnt or loose
Year/model?
How do you change the LCD (PRND/Mileage) colors?
Sand or strip the back of the inlay then glue down colored film. I don't do them but that's how it's done
Does it matter what kind of bulbs you get?
Not sure what you mean but I mean yes they need to be rated to 14v, solder in and if it's an led you don't want anything with round top or you will have hot spots
How do I get the board to sweep like that in a bench? What wires or pins do I use on the plug?
Powering it up gets them to sweep to home. sending them serial data with an PCM get it show fuel, oil, temp and Trans temp. you can use a tech 2 to sweep all of them back and forth.
What voltage to which pins does power up?
@@FixedUntilBroken I can get it to power up on the lights but for the message center of for the warming light and the motor to sweep I can’t how can I get them to do that on bench test would help me a lot so I don’t have to be going back & forth plz help
@@josebarrera2929 not completely sure what you mean but about the message center but check out my video on ipc hammer
