there aren't enough head to toe shots though. How is it not censorship when the big drum brake comes and we're left with only a view of the king's face ?
Elvis was censored from the waist down on his last Ed Sullivan appearance. He sang Don't be Cruel. That's a fact.

I think it was simply the idea of Ed Sullivan. He himself was also only seen from waist/chest at the end where he added his comment on Presleys performance. Maybe they wanted to show how pretty Elvis was that's why the camera was from his kinda chest only?😅 It wasn't censored. Ed and Elvis were pretty getting along

And In the same set he also sang "Heartbreak Hotel" Hound Dog""Loved Me Tender" "Too Much", "And when my blue Moon turns to Gold Again ( very rare takes) , and finished with Dont be Cruel... and for good measure to throw it in Sullivans Face since he knew he was being cencored... he made the girls scream by gyrating his arm above his waist for the TV world to see. The black Velour shirt he wore was made for him by his mother Gladys and the gold vest was a gift by his then girlfriend June Juanico

It was his 3rd appearance, on January 6, 1957, that he was censored and only shown from the waist up. I’ll have to rewatch again for confirmation but I do not recall him being shown from the waist down while he was singing.
I do this late at night as I’m falling asleep and spellcheck isn’t always on the ball. That should read “….his 3rd appearance”

His performance of Don’t Be Cruel on Ed Sullivan, I haven’t been able to find one that shows full body shots.
That’s because there aren’t any at Ed Sullivans orders. It matters because Sullivan’s show was watched by most TV watching Americans. 8pm on Sunday night. Censorship not by the gov’t but by a man who was very powerful in the entertainment world.

I dont recall that he was shown from the waist down in 1957
When his performances were broadcast back then, they only broadcasted him from a camera that only shot him from the waist up. However, they had other cameras on stage filming him in his entirety and as time has gone by they’ve obviously released the footage from the cameras that shot him “in all his glory” so to speak and this is the footage we’re seeing now.
@@mouser485 i have never seen footage that shows his legs etc from 1957. The two shows from 1956 were broadcasted as we can see them, but the talk was always about the show from 1957
