Merry Christmas to one and all!
What's wrong with raisins?! I love raisins! I want some raisins! Gimme some raisins!
Also, I think they were referring to the city of Hamburg, not the food.

Potato pancakes is like shredded potatoes mixed with batter, pan fried and severed with apple sauce, that’s where the sweetness comes from, also there is no sugar in traditional German pancakes, it’s the toppings who add the flavor, like ham and cheese, cinnamon and sugar, Nutella, apple sauce etc

11:15 All hamburgers are German hamburgers, the hamburger is a German invention that a German immigrant from Hamburg brought with him to the USA. But the commentator didn't mean the "Hamburger" for dinner, but rather the "Hamburg Christmas market".

7:45 Berlin/Cologne. The number of visitors to Christmas markets almost everywhere in Germany exceeds the population of the respective city. The Christmas markets in Cologne attracted the most visitors last year, with four million people, as the German Economic Institute (IW) announced in Cologne on Wednesday. tourists and locals.

Reibekuchen - You use a grater to make potato flakes, craft it into a pancake.
The sweetness comes form the topping. Apfelmus - apple sauce. Try it.

You're the first one I come along that didn't butchered the name of the town of Dresden. The first 'e' is spoken very long and the rest is shortened, spoken like DrEsdn. The German e is pronounced differently to the English e, you did it correctly. In this case it's somehow similiar to the a in: bagel, but not really, but the longliness is fitting.
Disclaimer for the germans: I'm not from Dresden or Saxony or the region.

    Reibekuchen:
    Grater cake
1 kg of hard-boiling potatoes, 5 eggs, 4 onions, salt, pepper, sunflower oil
    Preparation
Grate 500 g of potatoes very coarsely, 500 g of potatoes very finely. Mix both and approx. Let it rest in the refrigerator for 10 minutes. Then drain the resulting water and put the remaining mass in a kitchen towel and thoroughly squeeze/wring any liquid, then mix the mass with the eggs, grate 3 onions very finely, add 1 onion into small cubes. Season everything well with salt and pepper. In hot oil, slowly bake small grater cakes over medium heat. If necessary, add oil.
You can also serve black bread and/or salmon or apple sauce

6:36 You only need one evening for one Christmas market. The more markets you’re visiting the more you’ll see that many stalls are the same. Of course there are also unique stalls at every Christmas market, depending especially on the region of Germany that you’re visiting, but for the most part it gets quite repetitive when you’ve visited a few. That’s why people don’t need a whole day for visiting a Christmas market. Most people visit them to enjoy the Christmas spirit and good food. 😄
10:20 Reibekuchen consist of finely grated potatoes, onions, flour and eggs and are fried in a pan. Traditionally they are served with sweet Apfelmus (apple sauce) but there are also varieties where they are served with garlic or a herb sauce. 😄
12:00 There are no translated signs for tourists. But almost everyone speaks English. So if you want to know what they’re selling you can easily ask everyone.

Usually, you visit your local Christmas Market , or a Market near by (about 2500 Christmas Markets in Germany). After Work, or at the Weekend, so you don't have to stay all day, to explore .

Cologne has several Christmas markets in the city center alone. These 160 stalls only cover the square next to the cathedral. For example, there is also the Heinzelmännchen market a few streets away. Düsseldorf has 6 markets in the city center, all with a different motto/design. And that's just the big Christmas markets, not counting the small ones that only last one to three days. These are the small markets for the neighborhood, in the district or special occasions like in castle gardens.
Reibekuchen (potato pancakes) are not sweet, but savory: the pancakes are made from raw, grated potatoes. With onions, milk and/or cream, salt and pepper, nutmeg and possibly garlic and other spices. Fried in fat, similar to hash browns. Traditionally eaten with apple sauce/purée, more modern variations include garlic sauce, smoked salmon, tuna cream or, more recently, chili. The apple sauce goes very well with them and adds a fruity sweetness - like the local dish Himmel und Erde (heaven and earth = apples and mashed potatoes, often with blood sausage). Here in the Rhineland, they are also eaten with brown/rye bread. Many people put these pancakes on top of a slice of bread, sometimes even buttered. It's perfect comfort food for cold days but eaten all year.

Favour, see you at a German Christmas market! And that’s why you don’t need one of these tourguide people. You have local friends near every Christmas market. If your native language is English you will be fine in Germany. That’s why we are able to watch your videos. The younger the German the better their English. On average.
It’s Christmas Eve and that’s the most important day of the Christmas season in Germany. That’s probably the reason why there haven’t been watching more people. They are sitting with their families under the Christmas tree. Chatting, drinking, playing, digesting but also still eating 😊
I think we all visit our local Christmas market multiple times in the advent season. To eat and drink with friends, maybe buy a gift. And we may go to one or two bigger ones to enjoy the vibes. If you avoid the weekends, the markets aren’t quite as crowded. But they feel the best when it’s cold. That’s part of the charm and the mulled wine is even better.
The „potato pancakes“ are Reibekuchen/ Kartoffelpuffer. Savory, crunchy, hot and fatty. Not really healthy.
Deana and Phil have a good video about what to eat on Christmas markets.
    Frohe Weihnachten 🎁🎄!!!

Potatoe pancake is not like normal pancake, its more like crispy fries. There are onions and salt, an egg, and grated potatoes. There are a lot videos about "Kartoffelpuffer" or "Reibekuchen". "Röstie" ist the swiss variant.
They are also not for breakfast because they are very greasy because they are fried in oil and are heavy on the stomach. Traditionally, you drink a herbal schnapps afterwards to dissolve the fat. They may be vegan but probably not healthy.

What, you don't know potato pancakes?
Basically, the dish is made from raw peeled potatoes and onions. Depending on the recipe, these are coarsely or finely grated. After this potato mixture has been squeezed out, it is mixed with flour, salt and egg. Sometimes the eggs are separated and the egg whites are folded in as beaten egg whites. Typical seasonings are salt, nutmeg and parsley. The mixture is added by the spoonful to hot lard, clarified butter or cooking oil and fried until crispy. When diced bacon and onions are added, the only common name for the dish is Reibekuchen. Typical accompaniments are sugar (possibly with cinnamon) and apple sauce or sauerkraut and lettuce.
Alternatively, the potato mixture is not squeezed and the liquid produced during grating is bound with flour or oat flakes. In the case of Rhenish potato pancakes, the potato starch is separated from the liquid and added to the mixture. Alternatively, cornflour is used. It is also common for these to be eaten with sugar beet syrup. Quark and other spices are also used as an option.

Sorry to spoil it, but those big city Christmas markets are nearly all the same. There might be variations in food and goods, but they're really not that unique. For interesting markets you have to visit smaller towns or look for markets at unique locations, such as certain castles.
