- How to remove rust from classic sheet metal with Muriatic acid. My hood and truck from my 70’ SS Chevelle Convertable needed to be stripped of rust after the California sun destroyed the paint over the last 30 years.

Awesome video! Similar to DIY Pete's video on eliminating rust.
That's a real fine job! Thank for sharing, can't wait to see the progress in your project. Cheers!!!!
Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay. OKAY!
That's better than, "you know what I'm saying"
As a janitor I've used a diluted (with water) muriatic acid to clean porcelain fixtures. This cleans without affecting the plated drains, faucets etc. We used it quickly and rinsed it off thoroughly. Nothing is better for removing scale, stains and rust.
Can a diluted muriatic solution be used to remove rust, while decreasing the inherent dangers of the product?
Can a cheapo like me substitute the "metal prep" with vinegar-clean water mixture? Metal prep cost much , not to mention "Eastwood fast etch"
Appreciate this, good info. Have a question does scrubbing sheet metal with baking soda water mixture or paste neutralize the acid? If so, does the metal prep do solution do essentially the same thing and do you think it’s serves as a better neutralizer?
Again informative video, just keep seeing everyone mention baking soda. But can’t find any good info on using it directly on sheet metal only dumping it directly into an acid bath. Thanks.
1/2 cup of baking soda 1qt of water. Mix and put it in a spray bottle
great job. what is the metal prep? a type of phosphoric acid?
Yes. Metal prep is a ppg product that comes in a quart and needs to be reduced with water.
I know huh. Too much coffee or something. 😂
Why is Danny dA sanding the Chevelle trunk lid after all that acid work ? Maybe just should have done it in 80 grit from the get go? JR
We always get the bulk of the rust and the paint off before we start the acid treatment. Then after it is treated the metal “flashes” then that needs to be sanded so the paint adheres good.
Unbelievable, but baking soda neutralizes it
Sorry Okay I don't see it Okay Too much time OkayToo caustic Okay You need To get away from that meretic acid Okay cause it's got you Snorting okay
Okay!
for the love of god turn your music down. i had to crank it up to hear you talk then you music sounded like an explosion
Why do yall insist on this method. that acid is NEVER going away. it doesnt just dilute like phosphoric acid.
I don’t dilute it. If you wanted to it would dilute just fine. What do you think happens when you pour it in your pool?
@@steeledreams2118 My pool has 20k gallons of water, further the acid stays in tact until it sends its electrons to something with a lesser charge. do what ya want ...ur car.
Muriatic Acid is easily neutralized with a Baking Soda water mix, most common acids are neutralized with Baking Soda.
