It is time for the newest cinematic automotive CZcams experience where we film practical cars that can be bought for less than £1,000 in a manner befitting of their inexpensive value! This may go horribly wrong...
This time, we pay a visit to Chris Phillips from the Boats and Engines CZcams channel to test his 2004 Suzuki Jimny 1.3 JLX and see if it is any good for the modest amount of money one costs these days. Be prepared for dreadful sound quality, absolutely appalling editing, surprisingly effective drive by shots, an unexpected 0-40 mph dash, choppy ride quality, incredibly vague steering, a hidden digital clock, sentences unexpectedly curtailed for no reason whatsoever and an awful lot of fun for not very much money! Nothing untoward, then...
Off-Roading in the Boats and Engines 2004 Suzuki Jimny (Terrible Audio): • Off-Roading in the Boa...

My favorite Jimny review yet, nice burn out 💪
I imported an 04' Jimny into Canada early this yr, just got finished rebuilding the kingpin bearings and it is smooth as butter now.
Excellent fuel efficiency and very rugged, very easy to fix, very easy to take apart, very easy to get attached to ❤
Thanks very much indeed! Got lots of No Budget Reviews on the channel now, so I made a playlist of them. Wonderful to have a viewer from Canada! Yes, I got Chris to do the burnout, he also slid the car afterwards, but I didn't record it, as I didn't want to get into trouble...
Good Afternoon Sir, I decided to check out your back catalogue as a Jimny owner myself😊
Thank you, sir, and welcome to the very first episode of No Budget Reviews!
This is my kind of review, honest & not ego-tistical. Great stuff! I own two Jimnys and you won't find a good one for much under £4K.
Thanks very much indeed! Glad you enjoyed it. We have quite a long No Budget Reviews playlist now, including a 2004 Grand Vitara on the channel, if you are interested. I think prices were a bit lower a year ago, they have clearly gone up a little bit more since then. Yes, No Budget Reviews is definitely a down to earth series!
@@lloydvehicleconsulting Yes, I've owned Grand Vitara's as well, and off roaded them. Our Jimny's are a 2016 SZ4, factory standard with dealer extras fitted, and the other is a 2006 JLX with a two inch suspension lift, snorkel, steel wheels shod with Insa Turbo mud terrain tyres and rear seats removed for load lugging duties. I'll check out more of your videos. Cheers.
@@skellyskelly1958 , sounds as if you have had quite a few Suzukis of this era! Unfortunately, I couldn't take the Grand Vitara off road in the review, but it was in lovely condition and I did manage to have a drive of it. The Jimny owned by Chris from Boats and Engines is immensely capable, and he does all sorts of things with it. Sounds as if your 2006 is like that too!
Could have done with one of them yesterday driving up a icy driveway. Always fancied a Jimny many years ago after doing a off road day.
Yes, they get all over the place, don't they? Certainly worth giving one a try!
this series is right up my street-thank you
My pleasure, glad you enjoyed it! Already planning the next one...
@@lloydvehicleconsulting thanks
Low budget reviews, complete with a mud covered Jimny! Great new series. Love it!
Absolutely! No budget whatsoever, not even to clean the car before the review. More No Budget and Tweed Jacket Reviews coming up soon, just planning the next No Budget one now!
@@lloydvehicleconsulting Superb! Can't wait to view it.
@@SuperFIFTHGEAR, I hope that you won't be disappointed!
Really enjoyed this style of video, just as much as the usual tweed jacket style! Good point on the low indicators/tail lights. I can’t understand the thinking behind it - perhaps legislation on how high the lights can be in certain markets? Early Discovery models were the same, also the Mk1 Freelander. The higher level clusters only seem to do reverse and fog lights. Madness!
Thanks James! Really glad to hear that you enjoyed it. Looks as if you are not the only one. Tweed Jacket Reviews will be back next month, and there will be more No Budget Reviews in the new year. The split taillights on the rear of cars, primarily for off roaders, is a bit weird, isn't it?
Cracking review my friend. Interesting and informative.
Thanks very much indeed! This was the first in the series for No Budget Reviews and I just completed the latest episode yesterday. We had a lot of fun filming the Jimny back in 2019!
Loving the No Budget Review if these are cheaper to make I would stick with it. I was actually reading last night that there is a very long waiting list for a new Jimny. I've always quite liked the idea of these cheap 4x4s although as you say on road driving isn't the most refined. Good video Sir.
Yes, these are cheaper and quicker to make (for obvious reasons). Tweed Jacket Reviews isn't disappearing, though, we have episodes to be filmed next month. We are already planning the next No Budget Review, however, this time with better sound... The waiting list on the Jimny is indeed 18 months approximately at present! Glad to hear that you enjoyed it.
driving fast on roads is dangerous whether car or 4x4, save money on the sticker and speeding tickets, buy yourself a jimny
Great review at last from someone who actually understands what the jimny is for. Thank you.
Thank you ever so much indeed! Yes, prices of these are rising now, and I understand why. It doesn't drive particularly well on road, but having been on one off-road, it is amazing!
Congratulations on your first edit Joseph. You should be very proud of that!!! A very interesting video, on a car that I really do like. I really look forward to seeing the new look kit on this car. I had so many cars under 1k when I lived in England. Thou I don’t think your viewers like BMW LOL
Well, the F10 5-Series went down OK. The i3 doesn't seem to have had too many viewers, but we could certainly do another one of these with a BMW as and when you get one if you move over here. The editing was very rudimentary, but I am having to teach mysef as I go along, so it's better than nothing! Thanks again, sir.
Excellent idea. These videos will be far more useful to someone like me than videos about new cars. Thanks.
No problem at all! As I mentioned at the start, I have been listening to viewer feedback and, having consulted with some other people who also have automotive CZcams channels, I decided to give it a go. I have done several cars which can be bought for under £1000 on Tweed Jacket Reviews (Audi A3, Nissan Primera, etc) before, but those videos were never very popular for some reason... This way, it is quicker to film and edit them too! Tweed Jacket Reviews will still be around too, but this will ensure that ultimately we have more cars being assessed on the channel, which I hope will be appreciated.
Really nice review!!😄
Thank you. This series is good!!😃
I love the Suzuki Jimny and will maybe buy one in a few years😉
Glad you enjoyed it! We have well over 50 episodes of No Budget Reviews on the playlist now if you wish to see some more. The Jimny's prices seem to keep rising and rising from what I understand!
@@lloydvehicleconsulting Thank you!!😃
Is that a hint?😉 Should I buy one now???🤣 Haha, I’m not mature yet...
@@thewardejitzzz , no, it's not a hint, really. It is just that prices have gone crazy recently. Who knows what will happen in the future? Lots of other options on the No Budget Reviews playlist as well.
@@lloydvehicleconsulting Okay.
Well done Sir, greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
Thank you ever so much indeed for watching and commenting! Glad to hear that you enjoyed the video, this was only the first episode of No Budget Reviews, we have over fifty of them on the No Budget Reviews playlist now.
The steering on vehicles like these will not be sharp so as not to be tugged violently when off road but it will fell better and grip more with more road biased tyres. I have driven a 1995 Discovery with off road biased tyres which was very vague and disconcerting at initial turn in and self centering,Discovery steering feel and handling is fine on more tarmac friendly tyres.
The Jimny has great visibility, looks cosy, looks cool, is going to be bulletproof and not over complicated. The reassuring feeling when roads are mucky or snow covered familiar to 4x4 owners is great.
Yes, it was a bit cosy in the Jimny! They aren't very wide at all. Very capable and fun both on and off road, although the steering doesn't feel great above 40 mph. These cars can take serious punishment too.
The Jimny amazing 4x4 very capable regardless of Mk, that spin 😆
Oh yes, sir! Very capable indeed... Chris was enjoying himself during the review far too much!
Great review, no bull shit, just straight to the point, honest info. thanks.
Please accept my apologies, but I have only just seen this comment from almost two years ago!
Sold by 'Norfolk Motor Group' in Norwich. That's where I bought my Almera a decade ago. Had the same dealer sticker but it dropped off. NMG have just been bought out by Holden (Renault/Dacia/Volvo/Honda)
"Rhino injection" :-D
Fantastic! I love little details like that. Have you had the Almera that long? That is quite a while. Don't think I know the Holden dealer group. Hope you enjoyed the video!
@@lloydvehicleconsulting Yes I bought it 10 years ago and I really wasn't expecting to keep it that long! Bought it with 66k miles, it's now on 105k. I don't travel far in it.
@@mattw8332 , are you sure you aren't up for some No Budget Reviews action with the Almera at some point? It sounds perfect!
@@lloydvehicleconsulting Funnily enough I was trying to find your email this afternoon! I'm quite happy to let you have a drive of it. 😊
Well, it's been shown 30 seconds into No Budget Reviews for some time to come (not sure if I put it in the first episode), hopefully that is easy enough for you to find. It is also on the About section of the channel homepage.
I have the 2006 ignis 4 grip, which is just as fun but has decent room in the boot better engine 1.5 16v, so has a bit more grunt and MPG up to mid 40s, handling a bit agricultural, but ideal for country lanes, sadly will be selling it soon ☹️
Thanks Mario! Yes, it's probably a bit easier to handle on the road and a bit faster than the Jimny. I expect that you will miss your Ignis when you sell it!
Lloyd Vehicle Consulting yes I most definitely will, maybe you should review one? Quite rare, very affordable, very underrated. Usual bombproof Suzuki build quality.
Further to my last comment I sold it within 24 hrs of advertising it, bought it 7 years ago for £3400 with 30K on the clock and got £1250 with nearly 80K, I'm buying a Dacia Stepway 0.9 Tce, as needed something a little bigger.
I drove a 2013 one and it honestly had the worst suspension I had ever witnessed in a car. It crashed and pitched over every imperfection. Over speed bumps even at 10 mph the rear banged and felt like it left the ground. An absolute horror of a car totally at odds to the looks of it.
They aren't great on the road, especially above 40 mph. However, they can pretty much go anywhere, which is why I think Chris bought it in the first place, I definitely don't think it is an ideal car for city usage, for example...
