30+ or so years later and the piano accordion appears to stay hidden in grampas attic while the button accordion lends it's breath to tracks all over the world. While this tape shows a struggle and conflict of the cultures What I see now is alot of people understanding that our individual flavour is what we bring to the instrument. Honor the musicians that came before and play true, Borrow from all cultures and all points in time to make something new.

by the way, Mexican soldiers and families moved from Mexico to settle what is now Texas and the rest of the southwest so technically they do come from Mexico. A couple of them came directly from spain for ex. the canary island. Ask the longoria family how many thousand quare miles of land was stollen from their spanish land grants by Anglos. Have you heard of Antonio Longoria killed by the Texas Rangers just for being Mexican in the early 1900s. Did you hear of the Longoria Affair where refused

Thank you dgb11 I say the same thing get over the loser victim mentality , I myself was born in Mexico but was raised in Texas I grew up listening to conjunto and norteno music I embrace my roots and am proud I am who you are right the racism and bias exist everywhere but it seems to be greater amongst Mexicanos towards Tejanos and vice versa, Juan Tejeda is a respectable man among conjunto lovers but I dont agree with his political views which had no real place in this interview. Semper Fi.

@maindush Then why do Mexicans play Metallica, Van Halen, Robert Johnson, etc.? Is there a law against playing music from another country? I just mentioned three U.S. artists who I have personally scene Mexcian recording artists perform (Rodrigo Y Gabriela). Look, I LOVE Mexicans and Mexico, all TEJANOS do. We are just proud of our own heritage in Texas. I understand the hurt Mexicans have against our Tejano story, but it is what it is...

Yeah and many of the like Seguin had to flee Texas after the Mexican American war because Anglos threatened his life just for being of Mexican descent. Many Anglos stold Tejano property that they promised they would respect after the Mexican American war. Article ten of the Treaty of Guadalupe was ratified to steal Tejano land. Don't forget that Tejas was Mexican land also. Don't forget that Most Mexicans are from spanish and indian descent also

the right to wake Felix Longoria, a WWII soldier killed in action just for being of Mexican descent? Learn your Tejano History. Not all Tejanos supported Texas independence actually only a few did and those few were late persecuted by the Texas Rangers and land hungry anglos in Texas

Why do folks have a such a problem with this: 3:45? The guy's American, not Mexican-American. This business of xxx-American needs to end already. You are either American or you are not. There is no allegiance to some other nationality. If so, you would be there.

I think interesting when he’s asked what he considers himself and he quickly says American with the most Mexican accent, he’s in Texas where the majority is Mexican and he’s so close to the motherland I would think he would’ve said Mexican, I was born in nyc and my parents are Mexican I consider myself Mexican then American
