    I have both decks and Light Seer's was my first deck. I love the asthetic of both decks. To me, they don't have the exact same feel. I look at the Unfolding Path as a more typical, trendy, business, structured type deck. I look at Light Seer's as a more bohemian, earthy, finding your tribe vibe. I feel like I can use them for different vibes and feels.

      This comment nailed the difference I can feel, but could not put into words or even fully figure out. And since I'm coming to terms with some things that makes me different to the mainstream society of course I'm at this time more drawn to finding tribe where I fit rather than the more career focused deck. Thank you for leaving this comment.

      @rebeckajarl3934 aww. You're welcome. I'm glad it was able to reach someone. I understand the finding your tribe season. We all go through it when we want to be ourselves instead of how society shaped us to be. 🥰

    Oh My Golly Lissa.....Keep both....The Light Seers tarot was my very first deck that I ever related to at soul level. I am 53 and people refer to this deck as a young persons deck....but I too was younger once and this vibe in this deck has caught the spirit of who I truly am regardless of age. I have the Unfolding Path Tarot arriving any day. I haven't read with them yet.... but believe I would get a different feel with them, then what I get in the light seers tarot. Keep both I believe both will deliver different messages to you. They are both beautiful decks and they should live together in your home. Say hello to Peggy for me. Take Care...Terri from Australia.

    I just have to say....the devil in the light seer...screams ....come dance with me and has such a luring way of drawing your to him.....or your additions, bad habits that just keep pulling you in. Yes there are many more meanings to the card. But the light seers tarot's Devil card to me will always be a card that is hard to bet in others decks. It is personal what each card means to each person I know. I just love what he brings to the devil card. Because repeated behaviours and habits are always there, at our weakest moments in life. Pulling us, drawing us back to what we know, what feels safe to us. He is so Luring.....Terri from Australia

    Lisa, you have such a clear idea of what symbolism you look for/want in each card, I would love to see a deck that you create alongside an artist, where you can really have that personal meaning shine through each card. How cool would that be? I also appreciate how the symbolism isn't necessarily rigid for you, like how you're always open and excited to see how a card might be presented or offer new insight in it's interpretation. TLDR: I just think you're really cool and I would love to see your insight in a deck one day.

    I loved ❤your video and how you went into detail on how the card in each deck met or failed your interpretation of the meaning of that card. So informative. I also thought it was cute you were amazed the “tied” pile for both decks were equal since by its very nature since they were “tied” they would have to be. 😊 Anyway, as usual, I thought you did an excellent job, Lisa.

    Thanks so much for this video! Funnily enough, for me pretty much every Light Seer’s card won 🙈 I like the initial aesthetics of the Unfolding Path, but I do not feel a connection with a single card.. The Light Seer’s is the first deck I truly felt I was able to read intuitively with because I feel actually drawn into the cards. I can imagine and envision what’s going on in them and I can picture myself in them. I held off of it for a long time because it was SO popular I was afraid to be let down, but it’s one of the best decks in my collection! Thanks so much for comparing the two!

    My Unfolding Path Tarot arrived recently and I’m in love with it and using it this month. Next month, I plan to pair it with the Light Seer’s Tarot. For me, it’s not an either/or decision but keeping them together to complement each other. Using two decks for the same spread also means that I can draw duplicate cards which I’ve found gives extra emphasis and makes me pay more attention to the message from that card.
    Last night, I drew the Devil card and it was perfect for reinforcing the message that I was processing, but had not completely severed the unhealthy cords I have with a toxic person in my life. The broken chains on the Devil’s wrists encouraged me as they said that the chains are broken, however, now I need to face the dark/shadows in me. Shadow work is planned for next month.
    Thanks for your video, Lisa. I always enjoy them, and in particular the way you unpack the image for the card meaning. The video becomes a mini tutorial for learning the tarot. ❤️😊

    I have to say, Lisa, you do an amazing job of comparing and just explaining the tarot. I've watched a TON of tarot tube and when I'm looking for information on tarot in general or on specific decks I always look for a video by you first! Your explanations and pointing out your perspectives doing these deck walk throughs has helped me learn the tarot so much better than any other resource I've found on CZcams! If I could afford it, I'd sign up for your tarot bootcamp in a second! At any rate, I wanted to say THANK YOU! For a few readings what I did was I pulled the cards with LS and then pulled the matching cards from UP to see if I saw the same or something different and I found I get different hits. For me LS gives me general and UP specific or up close and personal getting all up in the business if that makes sense 😂. So now it’s been marked 😂😂

  • @tarotgeek8494

    They are both soo good but they offer different perspectives. I think the magician cards in these two decks are some of my very favorite magician cards. I know the Light Seers is young and I am not young now but I have never stopped loving the deck. I also love that it is mass market now and accessible to more people. I love the colors in the light seers, the colors are just fantastic. The Unfolding path is lovely but is a softer different feel for me. I love the age in the unfolding path. I am keeping both of mine because I think there are enough differences they won't overlap too much. Both are really incredible disks. I do notice the Light Seer's is less RWS than the unfolding path and goes it own way much more. Unfolding path might be slightly easier for a new reader and then they could move to light seers when they want to see some cards in a new light. I love the ruins hidden in the light seers, I find them gradually and always missed them when I started using the deck. I also love the court cards in the light seers because they feel more in tune with the outside world and less like business people. The Light Seer's has been the deck I always have gifted to the new readers in my life. I would consider gifting the Unfolding Path to new reader's too. I love the depiction of being in control of your magic in the Light Seers so much though, it is a deck that feels like there was some connection with the divine while this deck was created. I think I prefer the Light Seer's if I had to choose between the two but I don't have to choose luckily.

    • @Lisa_Papez
      @Lisa_Papez  Před rokem +3

      YES! I definitely agree that the Unfolding Path leans much heavier into RWSish scenes and I love the unique scenes in the Light Seer's SO much!! I feel like they are both going to remain workhorses for me!!

I love the bright smile on the Heirophant. The Light Seers is the clear win for me. But that’s what makes tarot awesome. The way different images hit us different while still offering the traditional wisdom.

    When you got to the empress and were looking at the unfolding path card trying to figure out the name of the "child like empress" from the never ending story...I KNEW you were going to say that because when i look at that card i see the same thing. I will most likely get both of these decks because there are just to many cards in both of them that i love. And i LOVE that the 6 of wands has someone who is in a wheel chair...being in one myself i am really drawn to the diversity of the physical differences of people in cards. I also have the "Superlunaris" deck which has a girl in a wheel chair for the chariot card.

    These are two decks that are really pretty to look at but I feel no need to own. I understand why the LS is so popular though (I guess the UP is still too new or indie for wider use). The LS has always seemed very young Boho crowd to me and the UP on that front seems much more diverse.
    But why are you so surprised that the two tied piles are equal? Isn't that the point by definition?😁

    I love that you read the 3 of swords as swords lol and not "hurting emotions" or "heartbreak'. I has always been confused when people referred to 3 of swords as a heartbreak card. It is the "mind" suit people?! It is to do with your throughts, mind, ego.

  • @grumpyschnauzer
    @grumpyschnauzer Před rokem +7

    I really like both… this feels a little premature though because Unfolding Path is newer (in a lot of the ones where Light Seers stands on its own it landed in the mutual category)… The Unfolding Path has too many images that I can find in other decks which means I’d get bored of it quick. Also, the images feel a more stagnant than The Light Seers. You get a lot of movement in The Light Seers. The Moon card is great… she’s plunged into her unconscious. I wish the Light Seers had the coloring vibe of The Unfolding Path. The people look less weird in Unfolding Path.

  • @serenityjewel
    @serenityjewel Před rokem +6

    I think the artist of the Unfolding Path was inspired by the Light Seer's path - mostly the colors in a few cards - but the artist drew each image in a new way and added their own spin. Other than that, and each using a script font in the corner, the decks are different. The characters are different. The backgrounds are different. Even the way they're drawn is different - ones more cartoon and one has more realistic images. I don't think The Unfolding Path is a rip off of the Light Seer's tarot - the artist did way more than tweak the deck - but I can definitely see that it was influenced by the Light Seer's tarot.

    I have both decks in my collection, and for me I always grab light seers first, I cant quite put my finger on it but that deck has always called to me. I can read each card more intuitively in the light seers, the imagary is just so spot on for me personally. As for the unfolding path deck, I backed it and was so pleased when I received it, I was looking for something that could win over the light seers and because they both had a similar vibe for me I had high hopes that I would have another deck that pulled me in more often or the same as the light seers, a year later and I'm still grabbing light seers more than not. It's just my favorite deck. I do love that the unfolding path has more age range and thats another reason I got it, it seemed like a more mature version of the light seers which I loved. I think I need to hide my light seers deck for a while so I can really get to know the unfolding path deck more without the temptation of my favorite deck. 😅

    I found it so interesting that you made a video comparing these two decks. I JUST purchased the unfolding path and found myself thinking about Light seers after I saw the imagery. I think it was the Magician card especially for me that just reminded me of the Light Seers so much. And then I saw your video side by side and realized I had much more wins for the unfolding path than the light seers. The artwork is just stunning. I can't wait to get the unfolding path. Less on the fence about if I should get the Light Seers now. Feels like a lot of the energy within these two decks would be the same. Thank you so much for this detailed video. At first I felt that UP was copying a lot of LS artwork. However by the end, UP was hitting me differently. I'm not a fan of white borders, yet again, by the end, seeing that they weren't uniform, began to feel more like a vision vs picture. I believe I'll wait for mass produced deck before I invest. I adore both of these decks - they are by far my favourite two tarot decks. Both have their plusses and minuses. I think I'm going to go through mine in order like you've done to see what comes up for me. I wasn't sure I'd like the white space on the UP deck as normally I can't stand any kind of border, but on these they just work. They are fractionally different sizes otherwise I'd be tempted to blend them so I'd have all my favourite cards in one deck. I use my Light Seers for my 'week ahead' spread and the UP for daily draws and they're working so well together for me.

    Great video, Lisa! I've never been drawn to the LS deck, but I like it more now, having heard your comments. I will have to watch your video about it alone. I had not seen the UP deck before this, and really like so many of the cards. The High Priestess! Love, love, love her! Perhaps because I am a crone myself (74), I really appreciate the older characters in the UP. I don't own either of these, but now I might have to get them both. Several other commenters talked about combining both decks, and I was thinking the same - putting together my winners from each. In all decks there seem to be some cards where I have strong reactions, either positive or negative, and both of these really evoke that kind of intense reaction, so mixing them would be ideal. Overall, it's the UP for me, but I can see frequently reading from both.

    Not sure how I feel about this video 🙃 I loved the experience of seeing both decks side by side and I hadn't seen the Unfolding Path all the way through or even quite so close up, so thank you for that. Can't say that I agreed with all of your choices, but that's a natural thing for us all to have differing preferences. I was disappointed that LS didn't win but I guess it is such a strong, bolstering deck for me that a loss would always have been 'a shame'.
    I totally agree with your choice on the Page of Cups though. It's always an awkward card for me anyway because it's so different to my personality, but particularly in the LS. The U.P. there is so adorable, I'd have him as a grandfather any day [I can say that because the only grandfather I ever knew passed 24 years ago 😁]. And I do prefer the UP for the Queen o Cups and the Death Card.
    I may have face palmed a little on your shock over the fact that the tied piles were the same.... 🤪
    Oh and the word you were searching for re the death card was 'harbinger'!
    Thank you again - I love seeing the things you pick out of the cards.
    Final thing (sorry this is long) one symbol that I love on the LS Ace of Wands is the hair decoration being Indra's Net. I love the notion of being able to tap into the infinite within every bead. I was so glad when you chose that card over the UP there.

    I hadn't seen The Unfolding Path Tarot before. It's really beautiful, and a lot of the faces are so amazingly expressive.
    The only thing that kind of kills the vibe for me is all that stark white around the edges of all of the cards. I just wish it was perhaps a neutral cream color, or even a dark grey. It's just too harsh for my eyes with all the bright white on every card. But I realize that is simply a personal preference of mine, rather than there being something "wrong" with the deck.
    It would be cool if they did a reprint in the future that eliminated the white. But even if not, I can't disagree that the artwork is amazing! ♥️

    Very fun comparison video! While this increased my appreciation for Unfolding Path, I just find Lightseers much more visually appealing on the whole. (The vibrancy, the color palate, and the immersive, borderless backgrounds probably have a lot to do with that.) On some of the cards that you tied for both having all the elements you like to see, I was going, "yes, BUT look at how much prettier the Lightseers card is!" haha! (for example, the Lightseers Three of Cups with that gorgeous twilight sky they are staring into is so much more evocative to me!). While Unfolding Path has more facial expression on the whole, which could be advantageous in some ways, in other ways it could be distracting with some characters feeling "over the top." The biggest plus to me of Unfolding Path is the greater age and body diversity, but making all four queens and the empress look very young really annoys me (especially when their male counterparts often look older). Honestly, if the queens looked older I would probably spring for it OR if it was available mass market I'd probably quickly pick it up. But considering Lightseers was $13 on a Hayhouse sale and Unfolding Path would be $80 with shipping...

      Oh yeah, from a purely aesthetic perspective, light seers is just visually stunning.
      But a reading perspective is also really important. And I think that's the way Lisa approached it. A card can be absolutely gorgeous, but if it doesn't convey the meaning of the card in a way that feels right for you (especially when doing a side by side comparison) then it just doesn't work.

    I have Light Seer’s and it’s is the one deck as a beginner that really helps me to remember meanings. But, I agree the Page of Cups just ruins it. The Unfolding Path’s Page of Cups would almost seal the deal because an an older person, I love seeing him as Young at Heart -a romantic dreamer. If the UP deck had the color of LS then I think I might lean towards it.

    I'm really glad I found this video, Lisa! I had pre-ordered the mass market Unfolding Path (being released in August) based on another of your videos but now I've seen it close up - and particularly side by side with Light Seers - for my tastes there's no comparison with LS which is one of my favourite and most used decks. I do love the crone High Priestess in the UP (I'm 66) but I'm not a fan of the aesthetic generally. The LS is stunning - so vibrant, so full of movement and depth of meaning. I'll be cancellling my preorder of UP and preordering the mini LS (also out in August) instead. As always, love your content!

    i am so bonded with the light seer's so i probably would never let it go. i own the unfolding path too, and most of the time i was thinking I'd rather play with the LS or even the Superlunaris.
    maybe in a while i might think different, but for me right now if i had to choose I'd let go of the unfolding path.
    I'd love to see a comparison video in a few months again to see how your opinion might have changed! maybe you love the unfolding path even more? or maybe you were in a honeymoon phase just now and like it less? super interesting!

    Thank you for this comparison. The reason I heavy heartedly decided against the UP were, that 1. I felt in inhabited the same space as the LS and 2. It has no guide book.
    Now I’ve seen your comparison, even though I prefer more cards from the LS, I find that the UP does hold its own.
    But how about the leaflet? Are those symbols and flowers you were wondering about in the video, explained in the leaflet? I can’t see anyone in the comments answering that question.
    I think the UP is so beautiful. And it shows more diversity than any other deck I know. I still hope it gets picked up mass market with a guide book added. I’d order it immediately.

    I love your this or that's! I do not like the light seer's. I cannot relate with most of these people, they seem to live in a different bubble than me. And I think the "Grey-haired" people remind me of a summer some years ago, when it was hip for young people to dye their hair grey. There are a handful of cards that I love, but right now, I don't plan to buy the deck.
    The unfolding path looks great! On first sight I love most of the cards. I would like to talk to these people. And the supposedly aged people really look like aged people. Though the deck is not in my price range, I'm happy that it exists and that I've seen it!

    For me these two decks have a similar energy in some ways but totally different in others. I think I would reach for one some days and the other, other days. I cannot say totally in which ways they feel so different.
    I do have to say the light seer has a bit of an edge for me personally in that the kings feels more about the inner manifestations of the energies and not like conforming business men. Still probably do want to have both.

    The world card in the light seers tarot, the woman is standing in the same mandala/circle that the woman is falling into in the fool card. That makes the world card to me in that deck have more meaning

  • @furryfriendsfairydust5595

    Wow - I see the similarity - but the artwork gives me different vibes. One bold artwork while the other more hand sketched. It really would be a choice of today's mood. I bought Aunt Lily's tarot because it reminded me of Light Seer's but came in a smaller travel size. I reach for it more than Light Seer's now due to size and card artwork interpretation. Agree - LightSeer's King of Pentacles is best one of all my decks - my Soulmate! Send him my way if you meet him. ❤Path's 6 of wands reminds me of the song "Man in Motion" about Rick Hansen who traveled the world in a wheel chair to bring awareness to disabilities and spinal cord injuries. (There's your missing spotlight for the card - 🥰) I had never seen Path deck - it's a nice one. It's hard to compete with Light Seer's - it's a great beginner deck and so spot on.

    I actually find the Lightseers Justice card, while cool in the reversal concept, a little problematic. The reversed version looks more "evil" or like a villain character and there is a long history as villains and evil characters being cast with darker skin as their "good" or more positive counter characters.
