@@scottinWV I've been thinking about this, and actually, I think it would be better if they were fitted to my four wheel drive tractor, so that would be two 36 inch rims, and two 28 inch rims. Very neat!
A few ideas,
make them heavy on the bottom so possibility of spin is even lesser,
make then convex, a bit
make them full wheel and paint some of it black.
I think more professional rims use gyroscopes.
The set of ball bearings did help to stop friction, but you need something to equal the momentum.
I didnt think the car could look more trashed with the rubber band tires but you proved me wrong.
I thought it would be cool to make the spinner full size and to look just like the rim. It would look like the car was sliding down the road without the wheels turning.
That's essentially where the idea of DUB Floaters came from
Good job. You guys should build a Lada in "V.I.P." style. Key features include very dark tinted windows and/or curtains, chrome wheels and accessories and so forth.

they work but looking at the amount of flexing from the wind buffeting youll need to either make it from thicker material or give them a bit more profile to make them more solid
the originals are curved to the shape of the wheel spokes, and made out of cast metal too. that adds more weight to the heavy side which prevents buffeting and shaking
The flexing you’re seeing is from them not being 100% centered/balanced

These are floating centercaps, not spinners. Spinners keep spinning after the wheel stops turning.

So FYI for everyone. Spinners were popular years ago. They usually spun up to speed when you drove and kept spinning when you stopped driving to make the vehicle look like it was still moving. That was the general idea. These are stationary.
So he mentions that the owner also has a Volga wagon, yeah, so does every family over there. But fails to mention IT'S ALSO 1UZFE V8 SWAPPED! That's _vital_ information my dude!

I wonder how frequently bearings on these things bind up and fling the floating caps off.
About as often as your wheel bearing fails and your tire/hub assembly go rolling down the road.
I laughed, but... probably doesn't happen at all. The bearings would start making all kinds of noise and scratching before they fully seized and managed to whip it around enough to chuck them off.
Rolls Royce has centre caps that do this to keep their logo always facing the right way up.
On spinners I have seen in the past weren't weighted like these. They would slowly catch up to the wheels as the car drove a long and would then keep spinning when the car stopped.

I have actually never seen these in person before. I've lived in Texas and Colorado. I think a lot of time people see them in movies and people tend to think what's trendy in California is the same in the rest of the country lol.
This isn’t a California thing. This is a down south thing. Lol.
They were more prevalent about a decade ago, but yes, it is a “southern” thing. As in, high melanin individuals put 28” spinners/floaters, “candy” money green paint, “oskritch” skin interior, and “mroosik” in the trunk of their clapped out 90’s impala or v6 charger with straight pipes.

Yes, the are a bit unstable. Maybe other rims with less air flow, so they won't be flattering during driving. All in all, they are cool.

I found the guts to one of those air raid sirens or the nuke warning sirens that spin to make noise and a buddy asked me to do his breaks so i got to messing around and mounted the siren thing to the inside of a rear wheel.. it only made the wheel stick out maybe an extra quarter inch so not really noticeable. But lemme tell ya when he got to going above 40mph that sucker would start screaming.. and he brought it back to me like "whatd you do to my car because it is so loud now that it hurts the ears while driving the damn thing .. funny as hell..

Here's a random idea, not sure if it would work though. Weld the big, powerful magnet behind the spinner that is pointing straight down and onto the wheel lip/outer edge. The idea is that the weight of the magnet would help keep the spinner in place, but also firmly pull itself onto the wheel, keeping it locked in place.

also maybe the effect would be trippy if you used the worlds darkest black paint on the rims so only the spinners are seen especially at night.

the only cool spinners i seen look like a copy of the rims behind them with perfect balance a hidden mounting point and they spinning while at a stop
