Isaac Rodriguez III, the youngest of four SEALs killed at Patilla Airport, died while rescuing a fellow SEAL who was seriously wounded. My nieces graduated from the same high school as Don McFaul, another SEAL killed at Patilla while rushing to save a teammate. I thought of these two courageous men who I first read about in the 90's when Mr. Gonzales mentioned he wanted to strengthen his weaknesses for the guys to his left and right. It shatters my freaking heart these brave American men gave their lives so others may live. Isaac's mother met the SEAL, who became a paraplegic. he saved prior to her passing as she wanted to meet the man who was with her son last. May we never forget the sacrifices of these operators both living and deceased. Thank You Mr. Gonzales and Mr. Carr for your service.

So pleased and fortunate Jack got Jeff on the pod, Jeff was and is one of the original firearms trainers from when courses weren’t that prevalent to civilians yet- not like today. AFAIC, Jeff IS the original of whom has followed in his wake. Great Interview Jack. Thanks guys. Pete

    Jack,
The fight scenes in Only the Dead are beyond awesome. They are so vivid, I actually found myself laughing and marking the pages. To read again. One thing I found from reading your books which follows on into Only the Dead in spades. Whether intentional or not I find the almost impossible situations you put Recce in yet somehow he seems to overcome and prevail. I like when he’s down and out and he says…ok Reece, stay in the fight, overcome, forget about Katie for now..if you want to se her again, find a way to win.
What I have found and not alone, in many ways James Reece through you personifies the never quit attitude which many people seem to embrace when things get too tough. They give up and through your books, I believe you always reinforce that never quit attitude.
What I would love you to do Jack is choreograph some of those fight scenes. They are so wild, its almost hard to follow. Perhaps not you, but someone else using graphics to show those scenes in detail.
    Respectfully Submitted
    Dennis

Just finished “Only the Dead”. Love the whole series. My 10 year old son is into all things military and special ops. Do you have any novel recommendations that are appropriate for that age?
A list would be super cool, maybe that could be a segment or video.

The Lieutenants (Brotherhood of War, #1) by W.E.B. Griffin Have him read ALL the books in this series. The Captains or the Majors covers the origins of The Green Beret. It is fiction and documentary at the same time. The books are VERY family friendly IMO. My dad and I both read all of them.

That would be an incredible interview, he is one of my favorite people on the planet and an absolute national asset. It would probably lead to a new series of books honestly.

This was a fantastic episode. Not going to lie, I was unfamiliar with Jeff Gonzales before this. Very impressed, however, and wondering how I could have missed the name until now! Especially since I see he's been on Mike Ritland's podcast too, along with about a million interesting instructional videos on here. :)
What you guys talked about regarding training and its shift towards new or beginner gun owners, etc., call me nerdy but I feel similarly about privacy and technology, albeit slower with less progress (to use a real example: social media data integrity and ownership, relevant on a platform like this-and Reddit and Twitter being quite a crapshow right now is something I could talk more about, but it would feel pointless in a CZcams comment hehe).
Increasing intrusiveness with a (bad) shift in ownership and control along with asinine laws and regulations make it a more mainstream concern than ever. Still, I bet anyone reading this is getting sleepy by now, and I can't blame you one bit. I agree-and I build software. It's crap. Period. Anyone who says differently should consider how a city like NYC would look if your average software engineer did architecture.
Exposure seems to rise, though, especially with scary stuff like Shawn Ryan's recent episode regarding AI (or any of the 500 articles written per day on it). Unfortunately, while the tech has been there the whole time, accessible training hasn't. Speaking more about risk awareness and mitigation rather than practical training; tech can and should enable beginners to benefit with near zero practical effort (the idealist in me tells me).
But if you don't perceive any risk, you probably wouldn't buy or learn to use a gun either, for example, Tools for normal people are few and far between. It's just not simple enough to understand or develop good habits, it takes just a bit too much effort to seem worth it. (Especially for smaller and less concerned creatures, like children.) I have complete understanding for it all, believe me, I get it.
But I can also promise with 100% certainty that it doesn't have to be that way. Hopefully some day I can be a small part of changing that, but time will tell. :) (Ideas are good, they're always welcome at d@nord.lol. Yea, it works, can just remove whenever so I don't care where it ends up hehe.)
Anyway, mostly wanted to say it was a way too interesting episode, really didn't expect to be distracted for several hours-all I wanted was to hear Jack Carr's enthusiastic comments once in a while in the background while I worked on some things! (Jokes aside, thanks guys, apologies for comment length!)

Also must add that few things are as sweet to see as proper gun handling and movement, so I'm curious to check out some of those vids soon. I'm a filthy civilian myself, but have at least competed a bit so I'd hope I'm still somewhat above Call of Duty level despite my advanced age. More importantly, I've seen The Terminal List, so I'm definitely semi-professional in “knowing stuff,” including tactical use of rubber chickens.
