I took delivery today of some demo units from American CLS. I get to test these units for the next 60 days, and we are going to put them through their paces. Included in the demo is an American CLS "Animal" Log Splitter, "Super" Log splitter, and 20' firewood conveyor.

Great video. My wife and I met the owners of American CLS at the Paul Bunyan Show last year. They were very friendly, knowledgeable about the products, and weren't the slightest bit pushy. Their machines look to be very well-built and reasonably priced. Looking forward to watching you put their machines to the test.

I built an extra-large front bucket for my John Deere loader. I load the bucket with big rounds by placing the bucket on the ground and rolling the rounds into the bucket while working on my knees. So, no lifting. Then I lift the bucket load of rounds waist high and place it behind me as I stand at the splitter. I can roll one round from the bucket to the splitter with no lifting, and work my way through the bucket of wood that way. This conveyor would really add a big boost to my method, by getting the split wood away from my splitter. Thanks for your video.
Gotta work with what you have! If you’re in farm country you should be able to find an old bay elevator for fairly cheap and make that work!

I bought my American log splitter used about 40 years ago. It just keeps on splitting. Doesn’t matter what kind of tree, green or seasoned, big or small, it can handle anything. Other than my standard maintenance, the only problem I’ve had with it is …. I’ve worn out 2 engines. As it is a wee bit older that most splitters, it is a little slow (11 second cycle time) but it’ll out split most new ones. It has never met a log it couldn’t split.

I hope these 'commercial' log splitters are priced appropriately for their features and performance.

That conveyor looks top of the line. How do you like the 20 footer compared yo George's 40?
I think given my space, or lack there of, the 20’ is perfect, if I had George’s 40’er I would have to back the splitter way up. I’d say both work as intended
I saved myself from doing all this.....and saved money. I just built a wood stove with door on it thats 3 ft x 3 ft.. Forced air. Been using it now for 30 years. Never split a piece of wood yet ! (Semi tires work great too ! ) Use the tractor and loader.......with tines.....slide the large chunks down the tines and roll them in the stove. Fire box is 4ft.x4ft.x 5ft.

I was super close to buying one of these. They even have a dealer in my area. What stopped me was the working height. Im 6'1" i dont think my back would appreciate me leaning over all day.
Unfortunate your dealer didn't tell you that they would custom make the height you wanted. The owner told me that is a very common customization they make, as long as you're willing to wait for one to be fabricated for you and don't want to buy the "cookie cutter" model
@@EverythingElliott honestly, I didn't make it that far. I checked the specs on the website and that was enough to keep me away. Though there were other reasons I stayed away. Lack of an adjustable wedge even on the more expensive models is the biggest thing.
@@bceltics121 I agree, they are behind the times on features, but they do make a unit that lasts a lifetime...but youre not hurting my feelings by going elsewhere!

I've owned mine for 20 plus years. It come the same way, turn up the pressure it go through anything. I put countless modifications on it.

Every other commercial splitter I’ve looked at has pricing on their website. These guys don’t. Being married to an advertisement business major i can tell you they will lose 30% of their sales before anyone even decides they want one!

What’s the price tag on these??? I don’t know how I feel about how low the smaller one is.
Can’t quote me on this but I believe the cheapest model is 6k and the most expensive is 13k with lots of different models and options inbetween

Not sure, and that splitter didn't stick around long enough at my house to put a gauge on it. I still have their larger one and haven't had any issues splitting anything.
Very very annoying - no prices listed on their website. That is a total fail.
Larry told me they are in the midst of designing a new website as we speak. I'm sure he'd be happy to give you prices with a quick phone call.
I just commented that and now i read your comment. You are correct. Businesses lose an average of 30% off sales and even curious customers that want to see don’t know and they will disregard and look other places.

This is 5 months later now and no prices on the website. I’m in the market to upgrade my log splitter. I own a tree business and now my firewood business is taking off and my 25 ton can no longer keep up. I’ve been pricing them the last month and Eastinmade has amazing ones either prices listed for log splitters and conveyors as well.

That splitter is weak, couldn't get thru that ash bolt. I welcome you to come to California, home of live, Black, Chestnut, Live Oak . I lived in Vt, Pa, the woods there are a joke compared to splitting our hard oaks . A 2 stage splitter on a tractor is my choice., got to like the ability to lay down the beam on the ground and roll the big ones on it . Slabbing the bigs makes it all easier, raise it to the desired height, and a adjustable beam height. I prefer a wedge on the ram, against a stop. Less steps, it's right there, I brace it with my leg, it's there for another stroke. Mine has a 2 detent valve ( Prince) , just flicks, no holding a lever. With a small diesel, tractor, it barely uses fuel, quiet , and maneuverable in the log yard . Just my choice after 50 years of serious wood heating. I've split some hard stuff before, and I know that this splitter isn't designed for it. Your unit is obviously much more powerful being hooked to a tractor. And I love that double detent you put on there. gives you time to set up the next split!
Impressive to look at. Performance ... ehhh, not so much.

You spent all your time talking and very little showing what it can do. Looks underpowered for most of the wedges. If they made them to use with the unit, you would think it should have enough power. I'll give it a D-. My old Mighty Murc would split anything I could put on it, including some 4 ft diameter elm

Force Air is much cheaper and easier ! Instead of two tube going to the house.... cool air and hot air.......I have one tube and the other goes through the center ...so you only have one tube exposed. A one 1/16 th horse motor moves the air. Boilers are ok......but when you have a hole... things can get annoying !
Yeah, I get that but my house isn’t set up for forced air. I’d have to do all the duct work and such, and half my house doesn’t have a basement so it wouldn’t be worth the cost
@@EverythingElliott My house is not set up for force air either. I think maybe you have the wrong idea / understanding about forced air ? I dont use any of the house duct work. I bring the hot air into the most " central " area of the house possible. Dump in and up through a 2ft by 2ft register. Its the cold air return for the actual furnace. It free flows after that. My brother who works with a heating / air business told me it would never work. But it works fine for me ! The slower the air moves through out the house the less air your taking from the outside walls. That cool air is mixed in.....and its like putting a fan on yourself on a hot day.
The air coming into the house is piped in using an 8 inch tube...with a one foot tube over the outside of that. Hot air inside ......cold air outside. I use bubble wrap to insulate it from the cold. I dont use any air filter because all the cool air is taken in from the basement. So the cool air reaches just inside the house while the hot air goes to the central most area. It works !
And if something fails with the wood stove...just turn the furnace up to heat with.

With speed you certainly sacrifice some strength. All about knowing what the unit can handle. I encourage you to check out some of the other videos I have with them.
Kick the crap from in front of the wheels!!!! I reckon you need to put your brain into gear before activating muscles
Move that out of the way and it just kicks the problem further down the road. Woodchips can be difficult…
This is hard to watch. Not impressed with the splitter
How so? What are your concerns, and have you seen any of the other videos I posted using the different splitters? If not there's a playlist on my channel called American CLS that shows the different ones, and how well they work.
@@EverythingElliottit's not you, it's the splitter.... I have spent years refining my splitter. I will give you a list of what I think is important.
1. Hitch goes on the motor end. Back it wedge first into the work area, leave it hooked up to the quad if you please, or unhook and jack it level.
2, the wedge sticks out the back, all by itself.
3. Make a jack stand to support this end level, with just a pin that slides through. The one they have is OK in this regard.
4. At the hitch end, install a standard utility trailer jack with caster wheel. Then when you jack up the tongue, you are pushing down on the rear stand. Makes everything extremely stable.
The whole thing should be level when you jack the hitch end up....
5.Axle gets positioned so you only have 30 ish# of hitch weight. Makes it super easy to hook/ unhook or roll around. I used a mobile home axle with 16.5" wheels/tires and narrowed it up so it can be rolled into the back of a full size ford truck for long trips.
6. The beam should be at least 30-32" high at the work surface, saves your back.
7. The pans... I weld them on from brackets below the guide edge. 18" in front of the wedge tip to 18" past. A foot on both sides with upturned lip 2" @ 45 degrees to keep stupp from rolling off.
8. Their 4 way is a joke. The main section should be 30 degrees and sweep back for at least 8" like a full equilateral triangle. Skinny wedges suck. The secondary wedge wings should start 4" back and have a flat bottom and the same tall wings. Take their fat boy wedge and build from that.
I just did a swap on mine and stuck a 212 harbor freight special on it, as a test. Did 2 cords of hickory, maple and oak and never had to take the 4 way off once. Can't sat that about the briggs I removed.
Other than that, their machine looks fine. ( I use a longer cylinder so you can load doubles if you want)
