Making Hydraulic Log Splitter

- I used three hydraulic cylinders to build the hydraulic log splitter. Two smaller cylinders drive the knife and the wood feeder, the largest hydraulic cylinder splits wood. Everything is connected to two hydraulic distributors, a single-section distributor designed for log splitter, and a universal two-section distributor. For two smaller hydraulic cylinders I had to install valves to slow them down because they were moving out too fast. The valves make the pump heavily loaded but the cylinders work slower. I connected the whole machine to the hydraulic power pack I made in the previous video.
Thanks to the feeder and adjustable blade the work is very fast and not tiring, the splitter has a lot of power and can handle the hardest wood without any problem

Great build. I would say some of it is over built, so just perfect, no such thing as over built! I bought a 25 ton splitter years ago when I heated with wood. Broke it in a week and had to beef up several things. I absolutely love the power pack. Much better with 1 machine and motor to keep running to do multiple things. Plus if it's used more it stays running and doesn't sit around and rot. Thanks for sharing.
VERY, VERY NICE.!!
I've seen a lot of wood splitters over the years, both commercial and homemade., but this is an excellent example. I'm very impressed. You did a great job and thank you for sharing this with us.
The best handmade thing I've ever seen. Bravo!
Thank you 😁
I made a Hydraulic Log Splitter 2009
Its been one of the best Labor Saving machines ive ever made .
A Man aint no Man without a Log Splitter !!
Excellent workmanship. I enjoyed every minute watching. Thanks!😊

An ideal beginners project! A very watchable video by a very good metalworker.
ha. Truely beautiful.
Utterly amazing. Wish I had your ability to conceptualize all of this.
Ben a fabricator & certified welder most of my life . I have worked on fast attack subs , carriers , destroyers ,and tug boats plus lot of time in fab shops . I like your work ,very impressive , you should be proud of yourself .
Excellent build, you gave me some ideas for mine, thanks! It's better to have the flat face on the ram, my old log splitter had the knife on the ram and it got loaded with wood pieces and was a pain. The log lifter is a real back saver. Build a small conveyor to load the split wood into your cart, and run it off the hydraulics too.
Mega konstrukcje. Podziwiam!!!!
Z kolega robilismy podobna ,wzory z you tube
A couple of welding "knots" /bumps on the pushing plate to prevent the wood to slip off from it.
Great job!
A superb build of exceptional quality.
You sir are incredibly smart! This was an outstanding build. It was amazing watching your create this splitter and agree with others the editing was perfect. I love everything about this splitter. WOW! ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC….WELL DONE!
I could not agree more, this is an example of superb workmanship.

Absolutely amazing machine, well done!
That's a wonderful job you did there, looks amazing 👏 👌👍👍
This guy is an amazing mechanic and welder. Impressed!
Mechanic yes, welder, not really.
And now pick it all up from the ground, and handle it again!
Great build!
This is what you call Time, Hard work and Dedication. Thumbs Up 👍
Excellent work and a beautiful splitter. But I think you should have switched position of the trailer hitch and the wheels. That would have made it easier to collect the splitted logs.
That's not a log splitter, its a work of art. Amazing job!

Beautiful work well done 👍👍❤️❤️
Beautiful machine and great craftsmanship, but I was surprised to see no grease fittings at all
Going on the amount of stuff that is being made from scratch, the scratch supply industry must be doing a roaring trade.
This thing was built like a tank , you dont need just machinery to built something like that , you need knowledge and a high skill levels to do it ... Great job WFS 👏👌
Fascinating following all the fabrication and seeing the project come together. Great work.
Thank you 😁
what a craftsman. he'll never be without work...awesome talent
I've seen a lot of home-made log splitters out there, but this is probably the only one I wouldn't be terrified to use. Fantastic work as always.
Thank you 😁
he put the splitter on wrong end , the wood falls on the ground
Ok 👌👌👌
@@jonesy4588 The trade off is huge. He does not have to pick up 50 LB logs. The commercial ones, the logs fall on your feet or onto the optional 'tray' that holds only 1/2 of a medium size log, anyway. No way a tray holds after a 4 way split of a log that size. Something has to give. The other thing is that it's safer. No hands or body near anything. You have to wear steel tipped boots with a normal log splitter. One or six will find a foot.
Very impressive and inspiring! Thanks for the quality video
Best of CZcams award. You're a genius. I love watching all of your videos 3, 4, 5 ... times
You sir are an artist, I loved this video. Wonderful to watch you build this!
Awesome work!
Do you have dimensions on the machine? Lenght, height or width?
Piękna łuparka!!! Szczególnie podoba mi się ten przesuwany nóż. Sam chcę zrobić takie coś i ten filmik na pewno będzie dla mnie inspiracją. 😁

This is great.
Nice back saving design!
I'm used to over engineered stuff but this is some next level stuff. Awesome!
Personally I would've put the pump system on it permanently, but hey I can't even afford most of the tools so...
As a welder/ironworker of 10 years, great work brother!!!
Farrr toooo Goooood, extraordinary luxurious
Masz pewną rękę do spawania .Fajna maszyna ,porządnie wykonana.
OMG !! A youtube creator that owns and uses a bandsaw instead of a cut off grinder. Awesome. Thank you for taking the time to make and edit very well this video for all of us to learn from and enjoy.
Remarkable. Impressive!
Very well thought-out, designed and executed!! Bravo!
Caught your goof on the lift bracket weld!!! :) Man this is one awesome looking machine you've built!!!! Nice LOW audio on the music track, doesn't make me go look for another vid!!!! Sped up sequences at just the right places too.
Just a thought for you... I realize it's a bit more time consuming, but I know some of us would like to make some of the things you do, but without a design plan or you mentioning dimensions it's all guesswork on our end. Perhaps you'd consider having a surface that's laid out in shown size squares (10mm/ 1cm wide squares or whatever) and you lay the parts on them and show them in the vid so we have a size comparison or (more time consuming) write the dim's on the parts themselves (easier than editing the vid with dim's I'm sure). That way at least we'd be able to pause the vid and make our own prints. And perhaps a raw mat's list of what you start with...
Pretty cool vid, very nicely done, and the end result looks fantastic!!!
I appreciate the use of bevels for your welds.. so few people use them.. good job..
Nothing like smart guys with awesome tools.. Great job.
Some People have Way too Much Talent ... Very robust and useful log splitter ,,,
A very nice build. I built something similar that goes on a tractor 3 point linkage when I was 16. Mine has a 11 tonnes force ram. I am now 60 and gave it a slight overhaul last year. Like you, I originally had the split logs falling to the ground. My only improvement was to have flat steel tables at the spitting height either side of the splitting blade to save having to bend down to pick up fallen split logs. You could still add to yours if you wanted? Many thanks for sharing your build with us. Greetings from the UK.

Brilliant... first class...👍👍👍👍
Very Excilen making of wood Epliter most Expensive But very nice Result
Que machado incrível! Valeu pela tecnologia em sí.
Love the fact you can hardly hear the background music. Great build. 👍😎
Thank you 😁
Really enjoyed watching that. Thankyou. Great work by an obvious professional. 👏

What an amazing build. That splitter is impressive. I still do the wedge and sledge and the maul. My wrists and shoulders have had it. This is my last year manually splitting.
I need to make something like this to myself also
Incredible workmanship! if I only had a fraction of your skills! Wowwww!!!!!
Absolutely incredible fabrication skills brother. 👏 I have no doubt nobody could buy anything of that strength and quality. Very impressive
Thank you 😁

Excellent work, and the editing is getting awesome.
Very nice. Great design and I can see how 3-5 hrs of splitting would be made sooooo much easier. Very nice. Question. What about flipping it around and push back toward the end of the trailer so all the split wood falls off the rear in the clear? And also, I think I’d add another horizontal fin for additional cutting. What are your thought?
Helped make a few of these when I was kid with my Papa
Outstanding! Andrew Easton would be proud!
Profi robota!
Jest moc 💪
Lubię oglądać twoje produkcje i czekam na więcej.
Dzięki 😁
Do you answer questions? Great video!! You're a master.
What was material cost? Maybe increase knife throw, drop a 6 way blade on it? Does that cool band saw have a lube pump? What is type of the 1"+ whole saw bit? (Not unibit).
That hole saw is the star of the show
exzellente professionelle Fertigung!!👍👍👍
Excellent, this is absolutely beautiful and a brilliant idea how ever I think you need to improve it more. Instead of using your hands to roll the logs you can make that area to be automatic after one log moves out comes another log and so on.
Buty
Excellent. On the overall build.( Needs one improvement). Me at the control in the wood yard splitting fire wood.
Thank you for video.

Excellent fabrication and techniques, great job! I've got 30 years in as an ironworker/welder / fabricator, enjoy watching a good job! God bless!
OK, so you can build anything.....AWESOME!!!!
very nice job, I think if I was going to add anything it would be to run a table out the length of your hitch to catch the wood and keep it up where it is easier to grab and throw in the wagon rather than to have to bend over and pick it out from around your jack stand. It could be hinged too to swing up out of the way when travelling.
yeah bigger tables are nice. I like the fact that this is much like the rayco wood splitters with the adjustable 4 way wedge. I have seen people make a big table to one side and then load up bucks till the table if full and then use a pickaroon to move the bucks. Oh wait I have done that many times. Though I do not have the log lift. Just a wood splitter and a homemade wood table. Works wonders and can split out a lot of wood very fast.
Thank you :) I drive up the mini dumper to the splitter and the wood immediately falls on the mini dumper, I did not show it in the video because it was only a test of the splitter :)
Nice job, and great stability when lifting all the wood from side.
Thank you 😁
Espetáculo! parabéns.
Hermoso vídeo, me gustó verlo de principio a fin.
My wood splitter stacks the wood and puts it in the stove as well. I love my wife.

Nicely done Sir! Excellent fabrication skills, and video editing as well! No blabbing, no obnoxious background music - just well lit, and a well executed design! Thanks for sharing!
Very good video
Great job.
Where's the link for your valves?
Thanks again
As precise as you were building that log splitter, I figured you would be just precise splitting. Nice quarter cuts! Nice machine shop...
Great job showing and building good job, you make it look easy but I know it’s not. Lot of cutting and welding, great job again see ya next time see ya bye.
Superior craftsmanship and design. You and your brother are truly gifted. I'm glad I found this additional channel to feed my need for more of your DIY projects. Cheers.
Thank you but i run the channel myself without my brother, and it's my only channel:)
The cost of the materials used in this project, probably will match the cost of an industrial wood splitter slightly different and not that complicated like this one.
This is not a worthy project with the cost of iron and steel pieces this days, but the skills must be appreciated.
Probably the most expensive fire wood splitter in the world, but was a hell of good job building it.
Well said I was thinking the exact same thing!
I'm looking at buying one at the moment, would you be interested in making me one?
Way cheaper than buying a commercially sold splitter. Go check out homemade firewood processors if you want to burn up some money.
Nice build, that thing is a beast.
Also, I agree w Shunta Wolf below: plans and exact measurements of the different components would be really cool! Also might be interesting to have you voice over your problem-solving thoughts. Maybe you could just voice-over the measurements as you make it or print them on screen? This would not only help the viewers, but allow us to engage w you more on possible design ideas.
in reality the price of the log splitter would be more than buying one from a manufacture, look how much steel and the thickness of the steel he uses, easily in the $5,000 range.
@@mikeoxlong8886 at least it won't break after 19 uses. Also it's much simpler
