as a Newgrounds producer who actually got approved by NG and GD staff I can say that even though the practice looks tough, it's actually really easy with time given to get verified on Newgrounds, as a musician. However, even such a simple thing could save Newgrounds and GD's images from being ruined by music thieves. How shocking

@@kikc Well, I sure hope AI music doesn’t get used or made better. It has absolutely no creativity, and people will say music that they didn’t make is theirs. I don’t care if it sounds amazing, it’s not true music to me.

@@ocin_the_ocin8766 It DOES matter (at least, to me). If something is made by an AI, it is not original. No person made it, therefore there was no creativity involved. There aren’t any real emotions in the music, if you don’t count “I’ve heard this so I’m gonna steal it.”

Honestly I have Steam, but I wasn't on it for quite some time. When I saw the title, my heart skipped a beat.... but then I saw the end of the video and I calmed down. On a serious note, this situation could be a threat to Gd if things went very wrong

A lot of GD players don't realise what copyright is, even today a lot of them upload songs they don't have any rights to.
People need to get a better understanding of such topics in general imo.

Copyright is a such a stretchy thing though is the problem. I like to do remixes of songs, so I’ve been trying to do more research on copyright and gain a better understanding of it. Copyright exceptions like “fair use” and “fair dealing” can really make these things confusing and debatable

I haven't touched GD in years, but this video was a like a trip down memory lane for me. I remember when I actively played this game around 2014/2015 and experienced the discourse of seeing 'Death Moon' by SHK and 'La campanella nu Rave' by Cranky taken down for DMCA claims. It was a really interesting development.
Speaking of Death Moon, I still feel my age getting older seeing most people introduced tl that song through GD, meanwhile I still remember finding it though old Stepmania files.

yknow, yesterday i played a level in the recent tab called "Hard Badland", and the creator was one of those strange full-black icons with two white dots

Ace Attorney music in a GD video is some of the funniest stuff ever
After looking at the process for getting a song on GD and after experiencing the process of getting one song up on Newgrounds (they took 4 DAYS to actually get my song verified) i did not want to go through the headache. I really do appreciate NG and their anti-stealing system. But if I have to do that for EVERY SONG I don't even want to upload to Newgrounds. I still haven't figured that out and I'm not going to put the time into digging up a project file from a computer that's dead to prove I made it.
I am also a whitelisted producer on NG, and I can say I perfectly agree with the system. It does seem like a tedious process, but the GD community is known to reupload a variety of songs onto Newgrounds in order to use them in levels, so I believe this system perfectly counters this issue. The perspective which I see this from, there are two different poisons.
Poison A: Every song will now have to be manually verified before usage across the game. (current system)
Poison B: Revert to the old system, and put both Geometry Dash and NG in risk of lawsuits by both music labels and artists.
I think we all know what we would choose.

I thought the system that songs composer and/or GD mods are the only people that can verify and allow songs to be usable in GD for years? I recall SirHaduken talked about this long ago but wasn't it a thing before?

I notice with beat/rhythm games like Tiles Hop, Audiosurf, Geometry Dash, and Beat Saber etc. copyrighted music seems to be the big issue.
I've been using this icon for a longg time.. even until now. And i started playing this game back in 2014! Now that i realised that it's the reason why geometry dash got removed from play store, i kinda feel bad for em. It's my cute lil bby icon and i love em sm ;-;.

This game wasn’t even updated 5 years, so deletion was the only update.
I was lucky enough to get scouted in Newgrounds before the drama happened, so I was unaffected as I was already a verified producer, although I did remove some tracks as a safety measure.
