Michio’s ability to flow through a conversation about a variety of different topics seamlessly and thoroughly is staggering. He makes it seem like he knows literally everything and every question he answers he has already thought out and outlined and rehearsed. Which, in a way he probably has.

Probably because he gets asked the same questions all the time. I've read his books and seen him live, his books are great, live not so great. The time I saw him he seemed to level his talk as if he's talking to a group of kids although the place was jam packed with adults who had probably read his books. It was a bit of a snooze fest to be honest, the best part was the Q&A where the audience got to ask questions. The bar got raised at that point but unfortunately it didn't last long.

Michio Kaku has a reputation in the scientific community for mostly talking about stuff that people want to hear (→ Multiverse) to sell his books and himself as a talk show guest. He couldn't hold up at all when challenged by his peers in debates. I like to listen to him because it's science fiction, but I wouldn't really take it very seriously.

He was my Professor back in '96 I couldn't wait to get to the forum to hear his lectures. He was funny, and connected with his students in a way that made you feel as an equal to him. He seems like a REAL, NATURAL teacher He doesn't place his ego above the CONCEPTS, the gift to share all of this fascinating info with others, including students People who think teaching is about power, control, ego are fools. They're not smart enough to realize that no one owns the information & that advancing the field is what matters, i.e. it's a *fantastic* thing to have students ask you questions you can't answer, for students to achieve more than you could ❤️❤️❤️ It's all about the big picture, not one puny little human who appears to have authority in a classroom

He chased me naked through the quad wearing nothing but a rainbow turban, but he was also wildy waving a set of nunchuku and repeatedly screaming, "Steak and eggs for dinner, are you crazy?!" We made sweet love afterward and that's how humanity first learned about quasars.
I could listen to this man speak all day long without being bored for a second. What I would give to have had him as a professor when I was a student. I hope his students realize how lucky they are.

For me its hard to keep eye contact if you are "downloading" information form your brain and try to explain complex concepts. Its way easier with everyday smaltalk topics though.

I think it's because he's constantly being interviewed on the same topic, I've seen quite a few of his interviews and they are very similar, even using the same jokes. He's awesome though.
I can listen to him for hours. He’s a great scientist, and an exceptional story teller. He’s way of simplifying complex topics reminds me of Brian Greene.
He is not a scientist, he is a speculating philosopher. Nothing wrong with that, but don't call it science, which requires to be experimental and falsifiable. String theory and multiverse theory do not qualify. His ideas have no more validity than that of a metaphysics philosopher.

I love Lex Fridman's focused, calm and utterly relaxed demeanor. Almost emotionless, but not in a bad way; It's more like he's just very in control of emotion.
I went back into your archives for this one. Lex was wide eyed listening to this brilliant mind :) I was lucky enough to meet Dr Kaku after one of his entertaining talks many years ago. As a futurist, his visions might sound outlandish to some; I assure you, he is well grounded in his reasoning with a deep understanding of our trajectory as a species. I imagine his predictions will be a collection of beautiful files in the near future where many of the things he said will have come to fruition. His true wisdom will play out many years from now.
I remember when I was 10 and I was watching a documentary that Michio Kaku so graciously decided to partake in and the entire show every time another person talked I listened but when he spoke about the things he did in that documentary I remember a feeling I had never felt before and all of the sudden the big bang went off in my head and I could see from the dawn of time the planets the stars the creatures the effects that physics play in all of it such as gravity speed energy down to the cells that make my body up and I still hit dead ends as he quoted Albert Einstein saying he just couldn't imagine a picture of it but just keep running the thought processes in all means and it will always come to you be happy
A little simplistic at times, but he opens ideas that most people don't realize about our daily universe. But he glazes over critical concepts and this to connect some of his larger concepts. But he is a good listen, I used to listen to him in the early 90's on the Art Bell coast to coast am radio show.

Hi 👋 I’m in awe with Professor Kaku’s brain! The more I listen to him the more I think outside my own box, which feels absolutely amazing and makes me wanna go back to school to study physics in general, quantum mechanics, etc. The more I learn through listening to him, the more I have started to imagine (at least partly my own thoughts experiences, I reckon they are all more or less byproducts of but not limited to Michio Kaku’s own visions, so with that out of the way..) I’ve grown accustomed to the idea of not being attached to our physical bodies, but instead become more comfortable in being in other aspects - meaning, if we’re to be able to leave earth for the first time and go to Mars (in whatever way we are able to do so in the future) I think it’d be beneficial to go there w/o needing our physical bodies, our minds - yes, and with Professor Kaku’s thought experiment of laser beaming our consciousness to the moon and from there create an avatar in any way we prefer it would allow for a freedom that right now is almost inconceivable to grasp, except it is not. As long as we are capable of doing the necessary mental gymnastics (I write,- & mean that in the most positive way!) we’ll be successful in figuring out,- and fulfilling all goals that mankind has dreamt of pursuing for the longest time. In my entire life I have always felt a sense of *je ne sais qui* when my brain,- figuratively speaking, takes a leap of faith and goes beyond what I would say is my usual limitations,- and in doing so “literally” supersedes what I perceive I’m capable of, only to be happily surprised and very satisfied when I understand that there is a lot more than what is the normative expectation of what we should believe and how we are supposed to think about this and that. It’s a liberating feeling to get to experience this, and yes I feel both grateful and very happy to have discovered new sides within myself. @@briancam_2000 His opposition logic behind Cassini was very much centered around the delivery system of the experiment and NOT in any way an anti-nuclear or anti-science stance. He even gave a suggestion for a safer plan that would still allow the scientific experiments to go forward. He was opposed to NASA's methods and how they assess risk. We all know the tragedies that have occurred due to the bureaucracy of NASA, specifically involving SRB's. Seems pretty reasonable to consider what would happen should launch fail and 70+ lbs of Pu is rained down onto civilization. I am glad we launched Cassini and glad its' launch didn't fail. We've learned so much from it. He is no fraud, and you may want to learn to express yourself better. You come off as a bit unhinged. Who types like that lol! :)
I remember Michio talking about science and future on Discovery Channel or something similiar years ago - I loved watching him when I was a kid. And I still do, his insights are as fascinating and inspiring as they were back then!

Great interview! I used to run into him all the time on the Upper West side a few years ago when I lived in NYC. I think we lived in the same building. He was always such a lovely man and gentleman. More excited to meet him than all of the other celebs I have met. The man is a genius.
I grew up watching him host shows about space as a child. This guy is the reason I fell in love with space. He is so skilled at explaining big things for a small mind. Love this guy

He made me realize for the first time that telepathy could (and most likely will) actually be possible when we create an interface between our brains and the internet. That's pretty amazing imo.

I remember once in a interview Kaku was asked if he thinks Math is hard…he said Math can be hard for everybody but he was curious enough about the universe that he didn’t let that problem stop him so he hit the books for hours and hours and the more he spent time working through these math problems the easier it got and the better he could understand some of the things that makes the universe appear as it is.
The more math I did, the harder it got! So, I found an autistic room-mate. He would do my home-work and I would button his shirt and tie his shoes. I then made A's in math class.

I read Michio's book Visions to my son when he was around 7 or 8. It inspired him, too. He had thousands of questions I had to answer. He learned there is a future and what it might look like. He also learned it's gonna be damned fun and interesting to be a part of it. He's now a tech lead for a telecom company. I imagine Michio had a great impact on many of today's engineers and scientists.

Michio Kaku has a reputation in the scientific community for mostly talking about stuff that people want to hear (→ Multiverse) to sell his books and himself as a talk show guest. He couldn't hold up at all when challenged by his peers in debates. I like to listen to him because it's science fiction, but I wouldn't really take it very seriously.

I had Dr Kaku SPC210 Physical Chemistry in 1992. He chased me naked through the quad wearing nothing but a rainbow turban, but he was also wildy waving a set of nunchuku and repeatedly screaming, "Steak and eggs for dinner, are you crazy?!" We made sweet love afterward and that's how humanity first learned about quasars.

I can listen to him for hours. He’s a great scientist, and an exceptional story teller. He’s way of simplifying complex topics reminds me of Brian Greene.

He is not a scientist, he is a speculating philosopher. Nothing wrong with that, but don't call it science, which requires to be experimental and falsifiable. String theory and multiverse theory do not qualify. His ideas have no more validity than that of a metaphysics philosopher.

I went back into your archives for this one. Lex was wide eyed listening to this brilliant mind :) I was lucky enough to meet Dr Kaku after one of his entertaining talks many years ago. As a futurist, his visions might sound outlandish to some; I assure you, he is well grounded in his reasoning with a deep understanding of our trajectory as a species. I imagine his predictions will be a collection of beautiful files in the near future where many of the things he said will have come to fruition. His true wisdom will play out many years from now.
I remember when I was 10 and I was watching a documentary that Michio Kaku so graciously decided to partake in and the entire show every time another person talked I listened but when he spoke about the things he did in that documentary I remember a feeling I had never felt before and all of the sudden the big bang went off in my head and I could see from the dawn of time the planets the stars the creatures the effects that physics play in all of it such as gravity speed energy down to the cells that make my body up and I still hit dead ends as he quoted Albert Einstein saying he just couldn't imagine a picture of it but just keep running the thought processes in all means and it will always come to you be happy
I love listening to Michio... his thoughts are so coherent, fluid and can be easily understood.

A little simplistic at times, but he opens ideas that most people don't realize about our daily universe. But he glazes over critical concepts and this to connect some of his larger concepts. But he is a good listen, I used to listen to him in the early 90's on the Art Bell coast to coast am radio show.

Hi 👋 I’m in awe with Professor Kaku’s brain!
The more I listen to him the more I think outside my own box, which feels absolutely amazing and makes me wanna go back to school to study physics in general, quantum mechanics, etc.
The more I learn through listening to him, the more I have started to imagine (at least partly my own thoughts experiences, I reckon they are all more or less byproducts of but not limited to Michio Kaku’s own visions, so with that out of the way..)
I’ve grown accustomed to the idea of not being attached to our physical bodies, but instead become more comfortable in being in other aspects - meaning, if we’re to be able to leave earth for the first time and go to Mars (in whatever way we are able to do so in the future) I think it’d be beneficial to go there w/o needing our physical bodies, our minds - yes, and with Professor Kaku’s thought experiment of laser beaming our consciousness to the moon and from there create an avatar in any way we prefer it would allow for a freedom that right now is almost inconceivable to grasp, except it is not. As long as we are capable of doing the necessary mental gymnastics (I write,- & mean that in the most positive way!) we’ll be successful in figuring out,- and fulfilling all goals that mankind has dreamt of pursuing for the longest time.
In my entire life I have always felt a sense of *je ne sais qui* when my brain,- figuratively speaking, takes a leap of faith and goes beyond what I would say is my usual limitations,- and in doing so “literally” supersedes what I perceive I’m capable of, only to be happily surprised and very satisfied when I understand that there is a lot more than what is the normative expectation of what we should believe and how we are supposed to think about this and that. It’s a liberating feeling to get to experience this, and yes I feel both grateful and very happy to have discovered new sides within myself.

@@briancam_2000 His opposition logic behind Cassini was very much centered around the delivery system of the experiment and NOT in any way an anti-nuclear or anti-science stance. He even gave a suggestion for a safer plan that would still allow the scientific experiments to go forward. He was opposed to NASA's methods and how they assess risk. We all know the tragedies that have occurred due to the bureaucracy of NASA, specifically involving SRB's. Seems pretty reasonable to consider what would happen should launch fail and 70+ lbs of Pu is rained down onto civilization. I am glad we launched Cassini and glad its' launch didn't fail. We've learned so much from it. He is no fraud, and you may want to learn to express yourself better. You come off as a bit unhinged. Who types like that lol! :)

@@matthewlawton9241 that’s a tiny amount of information in the bigger scale of things, we have 0 idea where we will be in 200 thousand years and we have no idea why humans or any life form exists anyway, the information we have on the universe is so limited to say it isn’t is just pure human arrogance and wanting to play god, we get the biology but why why does any of it even make sense why are there random giant stars floating around space, why are there random frequencies and dimensions in this universe, we are so primitive if you compare us to the idea of an alien civilisation that has evolved for millions of years, and that concept is just as strange as the fact we are alive today, we know very little

To Mr. Kaku's comment that he doesn't know any war between 2 democratic states, the biggest conflict between 2 democratic systems of that time, that instantly came into my mind was back in ancient Greece between Athens and Syracuse. (Information according to ancient Greek historian Thucydides).

I remember once in a interview Kaku was asked if he thinks Math is hard…he said Math can be hard for everybody but he was curious enough about the universe that he didn’t let that problem stop him so he hit the books for hours and hours and the more he spent time working through these math problems the easier it got and the better he could understand some of the things that makes the universe appear as it is.
The more math I did, the harder it got! So, I found an autistic room-mate. He would do my home-work and I would button his shirt and tie his shoes. I then made A's in math class.

@@reinman1987cancerI feel like a lot of modern scientist always come up with a "childhood garage story" to make them look like some sort of wonder genuis child. They mostly exaggerate their story, it's impossible that a child could built a working particle accelerator or nuclear reactor or whatever he had claimed to built.

Michio is one my favorite physicists out there and a personal favorite. He was one of the people that inspired me to follow my engineering career. I met him for his future of humanity book tour in Chicago. Great guy and great book. God bless.

I read Michio's book Visions to my son when he was around 7 or 8. It inspired him, too. He had thousands of questions I had to answer. He learned there is a future and what it might look like. He also learned it's gonna be damned fun and interesting to be a part of it. He's now a tech lead for a telecom company. I imagine Michio had a great impact on many of today's engineers and scientists.
