Brian Greene is my favorite science communicator up there with Carl Sagan. He is so articulate and easy to understand while possessing such a rich vocabulary. The way he layers his sentences is so poetic and entertaining that it's impossible to be distracted.

@@dzenacs2011 He is not saying that humans are not important, he is saying we are not important to the universe. He is saying our importance does not come from an external source because there is not one. What we do is important to us. If life is a video game we are in sandbox mode not an RPG where we have pre-destined quests to do. If anything that makes us more important because the achievements of humanity to get this far was done without aid and by us alone.
The main difference is that Sagan was more of an intolerant atheist.
@@inglestopia understandable considering the lack of tolerance religion has had for science for 1,000s of years. Such as insisting the universe revolves around the Earth and Placing Galileo on trial for heresy for stating so and imprisoning him for stating this truth. Religion has never tolerated the truth so why should Atheists tolerate religion which is based on ancient myths and retold legends and not facts?
@@prophetofthesingularity I prefer the mindset that Greene has, he doesn't need to disqualify people for believing something or hating other beliefs like if religion as a whole is completely bad when it's not, it has also positive things. Of course, many people have died unjustly, just as religious people have died because of secular atheists, they reacted in the same way because they wanted to impose their atheistic thought, how did religions react? Religious fundamentalisms were formed, including Islamic terrorism. Both extremes are indefensible and unfortunate, but it is not good to add fuel to the fire and seek revenge on one side, so intolerance will never end. I have to read more of Sagan to be honest to have better understanding but I remember like he hated religion a lot, same case as Richard Dawkins.

I love the fact that given the "right" teacher, i.e., someone articulate and able to speak in simple terms, one can pleasingly listen to studies beyond our personal journey. Letting us enjoy their voyage while remaining in our own. A well-spoken, articulate person with a thorough handle on the topic at hand and presto... the magic begins.

I agree with the sentiment that he is the best, but explaining things at the high level on a TV documentary is a lot more entertaining then spending hours writing out equations over and over again. I think in the classroom setting, your interest level would have been the same

The Doppler effect is wrongly conflated with cosmological Redshift. As one approaches a blowing horn the perceived pitch is higher until the horn is reached, then becomes lower as the horn is passed. This phenomenon is caused by the physical movement of a mechanical soundwave traveling through the medium of air, similar to throwing a rock in a pond, the rock creates physical movement in the medium of water. Cosmological Redshifts are merely the GoPro fisheye effect where wavelengths appear to lengthen-stretch from the phenomenon of gravitational lensing. . According to general relativity ie gravitational lensing (a warped field of vision in telescopes) is due to (mass) between a distant light source and the observer. If that were true earths huge mass would distort the light of the observer as well making telescopes unusable. So only other planets in the universe are affected by gravitational waves? In 1916 before it was known that man could travel in space Albert Einstein based his gravitational wave theory on relativity. In 2021 most of us realize if gravitational waves existed in space astronauts would be crushed like an underwater diver traveling to the bottom of the sea. Einstein's disciples defend relativity by saying gravity is a weak force, yeah so weak it affects planets and galaxies just not astronauts, the discovery space station or droplets of water in space?

"Time is the most essential quality of experience while simultaneously being the most mysterious" - Thought provoking and brilliant. I have lost count of time trying to digest that statement.
Loosing count at that digestion for some reason makes me think of a litebrite board and the pegs. Although by themselves they remain the same physically... When they come together in the process of a being "digesting" by the "user", that makes an experience and an expression. Also meant to be taken apart. Not be be stuck in one particular pattern. As is the life cycle of the digestion process.

I love it, this makes my mind feel at ease with everything especially death and nothingness. the concept of space and time itself really fills me with joy, I used to get really anxious about it all but listening to these kind of podcasts puts me at such ease, I don't believe in god, never have and never will but I do believe in such a great force of energy, somewhere everything, every being, everyone came from together.

Oh HELL YEAH, Brian Greene is my #1 favorite physicist, I could listen to him for hours.
Idk how i got here i fell asleep on my phone but i watched a total of 4 hours of these podcasts.
I like this idea of fear of death that was discussed. I believe we got it all wrong. One can never stop existing at least from ones' own perspective. Remember when you went to sleep and then you woke up? Do you know how much time has passed while you slept? Your experience might tell you it was approximately 8 hours but you don't really know. Might have been 10 years. For you it's only the momement just before you lost conciousness and then regained it again. So when you die there may have trillions of years passed before your conciousness reappears again but from your own perspective it's a continuous experience. You may not remember what happened before but it is still YOU.
Brian Greene is a national treasure! His last book is one of the best I have ever read.
Dogs actually do have existencial question such as ''who is the goodest boi'' and ''do I chase the ball or does the ball chase me in relativity''
I love watching the videos on the world science Channel that Brian Green hosts. He's right up there with Brian Cox as far as being very engaging, intelligent and able to take such large concepts and make them understandable and fascinating to the layman.
