John, thank you for this great message. It's been three months since the military coup in Myanmar, which has terrorized the people, shut down my teaching there, and become this huge cloud over everyone in the country and all of us who care deeply about the Burmese people. Just last week, though, I saw one of my staff members there crack a smile, which naturally led to joking and laughter. It was so refreshing. The situation outside the door to the office was no less serious, but being free to laugh with one another felt like taking a deep breath of fresh air... I loved your final point: You don't have the weight of the world on your shoulders, God does. Thank you!

I love this … great reminder. I have lived the program for a long time and rule #62 is a foundational concept of that program. I have forward to others in the program. Don’t take yourself so damn seriously Chuck. Chill!

I needed this message! After listening to this message I realized why I get anxious sometimes. This was a prayer answered. Thank you!

The other day while driving to an upscale grocery store, I noticed I was wearing my fuzzy slippers. I immediately pulled into the left lane to make a U-turn, go home and put on some presentable, (preferably Italian) shoes. At THAT VERY moment, I heard John say over my car stereo, "When you are tempted to think that everything begins and ends with you... how I look... what other people think of me is everything... let it go". So I did. I went to the grocery store wearing my ridiculous fuzzy slippers. One lady pointed at my slippers and laughed... not really, of course, no one even noticed. Great lesson learned.
BTW, my wife and I are daily listeners. Just about everyday, one of us will ask "Hey did you listen to Ortberg today?" Thank you for this series!

Thx! What’s an awesome rule. Needed this reminder. God’s truth. By God’s grace, the Lord changes my heart. So my mouth fills with laughter and my tongue fills with songs of joy! Happy Hump Day!!!

I have to confess that this can be my tragic flaw - my husband jokes about being as serious as a heart attack! In the series The Chosen I love the light-spiritedness that is portrayed in the character of Jesus - that he laughed at Andrew's two left feet and spent time with children. We can't really know for sure, but it rings true in my heart and I love Him more as a result of this presentation.

What is the name of the book about the destructive effects of trying to be cool please?
