Rusty Meat Slicer Restoration - I’m Making a Sandwich for You !

- In this restoration video I restored an antique meat or vegetable slicer from around the year 1890.
More about the slicer :
I bought this slicer from a flea market. It cost me $80, but compared to the prices on eBay , which exceed $100, I think I made a good choice. I liked this item from the moment I saw it and knew it would be a cool restoration project.
More about the restoration :
As in every restoration video, I started by presenting the part and disassembling it. I knew since I bought this item, the fact that it is missing a part (a screw for mounting to the table), so I started the restoration by making the missing part. I didn't find many details online, but looking at other products that were for sale, I saved the pictures and tried to make the missing part like the original one. It came out very beautiful part. After that , I continued the restoration project by sandblasting the other parts. After sandblasting, I inspected the cast iron, I had to restore the main body because the blades were touching one of the edges. I sanded the parts in places and powder coated. For some parts I used black brown powder and for others I used cream powder. I am happy because the wooden handle could be restored, but the handle shaft and the brass ring had to be replaced. Towards the end of the restoration, I restored the gloss of the blades, sharpened them and restored the main shaft. I presented all the restored parts, assembled the parts, showed before and after and at the end of the video I showed the test by making a delicious sandwich...I think I deserve one after so many weeks of restoration.
That was the brief description of the restoration. Thank you for reading and thank you for watching the video. Hope you enjoyed ! Cheers , David .

I hope you like this video, if you have any questions leave them in the comments and I will answer you there. Cheers, David! 🤩🤩🤩🍻
thanks for this video. i didn't have a question, rather a comment. i wanted to commend your speed on the creation of the new parts. so often this is either omitted entirely or to much time is taken to show what was done, instead yours was just right!
That was an amazing restoration. 😊
When you make new parts, what is the dark blue colour on the metal? I've seen it in your videos before
That blue is a permanent marker . Is not for me but for my viewers because can be seen better where the lathe knife cut the metal/brass .
You are really Maestro! Your job is insane, I'm glad to see your skills...
No primer needed for powder coating the parts you painted? I've seen some people use primer, but other people don't. Why is this? Also... 'old' vintage tech is the BEST; everything was repairable!
Yet again, no magic, no previews, just the restoration, gorgeous closeups, intelligent repair decisions: Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!
Thanks and glad you liked it so much 😊
it's been too long but it was worth it. I love watching your work. such class
Thanks a lot Mark 😊
Also a faked piece to start with.
He was a bit harsh on his tools, I remember in machine class that squeaking and smoking shouldn’t happen, it either means you need lubricant/cutting fluid or the tool isn’t aligned properly/not sharp enough
I love that the wire slicer made an appearance!
Yeah, I can’t to not show it a little bit 🙈
@@CoolAgainRestoration now you just need to restore an old toaster and you can make a sandwich with only restored items 😆
I have other idea . I will restore more kitchen tools and after that I will make a whole recipe using only restored items 😎
@@CoolAgainRestoration YES! BRING IT!
Put these comments in your videos at the beginning. People love to see their responses getting noticed.
Being a chef and seeing that 100 year old slicer be restored was amazing! Your workmanship is truly brilliant!
Thank you very much Chef 👨🍳 cheers
That sanding trick is genius, not lazy at all! Well done, all over.
Thanks a lot Becky and glad you enjoyed 😊
Time is valuable. If you can save it, go for it!
Damn right. Work smarter not harder. Especially if you've seen the video of that poor Russian dude getting caught up in that metal lathe. Ripped that dude apart in seconds. Gruesome!
That's just wonderful! The original wooden handle came out very nice. I'm glad you kept it.
I’m glad I was able to restore that handle too 😊 thanks a lot Jozsef

Not restored… it was never that nice to begin with. It is better than new. What a great project! Very well put together and very enjoyable to watch! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks a lot for your every time support mate 😊👍
You do the work, sir. I’m just one of many who believe you do a good job. But, I appreciate the reply.
As an engineering student your videos really give me insight on how you use different devices in order to make your restorations come out so perfectly!
Thanks a lot and glad you enjoyed so much 😊
What an absolute treat on a rainy Saturday morning to see you posted a new video.
Your attention to detail and protection are amazing. Happy to see things that were made right find their way to you to be restored to better then new.
As a wood worker myself I find your videos extremely relaxing and certainly worth watching more then once. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks a lot James and glad you enjoyed! Thanks again for these kind words 👍👍👍
I've seen a few different slicer restorations (bread, cheese, meat/vegetable) and they are always one of my favorites. This one did not disappoint.
Thanks a lot and glad you liked it 😊
I am always in awe of your work and attention to detail. I'd love to see the shelves in your shop of all your items you have restored to their glory. I'd bet they never looked as good when first made. Thank you for sharing your skills with the world.
Thanks and glad you enjoyed 😊
A clean, smart and satisfying restoration as usual.
The ivory color with that black was perfect, congrats David 😉👌
Continue to be impressed with your milling and tool use and knowledge. Your attention to detail stands on it's own. Your desire to make it better then the original shine through. Well done Sir 👏
Impressive restoration of an antique meat/vegetable slicer from the 1890s! The missing part was skillfully recreated, and the cast iron body was beautifully restored. The blades were sharpened, the wooden handle brought back to life, and the slicer tested successfully. Great job!
Thank you very much Serg C 😊👌
Most beautiful restorations I’ve seen. They are so so cool! Awesome.
Thank you very much Ron H 😊
The wingnut you made was stunning!
Glad you liked it , Oscar 😊👍
Starts off looking like a boat propeller - a real treatment to the restoration!
This guy makes the antiques look like a whole different item! Love it! They still look old, but also look like they belong on a shelf that says “Do not touch!” Absolutely gorgeous restorations! The Channel name fits perfectly on what is done!
yea, they almost look like they did before they artificially aged them.
This is your opinion Gustav ? I want to open a topic based on your comment!
Just knowing before the end it is going to be an amazing restoration, huge fan!!
Thank you very much Mustafa 😊
That sandwich at the end, with the included ASMR, made the video complete
Thanks a lot and glad you liked it so much 😊
these types of videos are so relaxing, some random part of my brain really likes seeing people use things until they're unusable or restore really old things to be used again
Thanks Sunny 😊
Przepiękna jest ta zrobiona robota pozdrawiam twórcę tego filmiku serdecznie 👍👍👍👍
I went to the Doctor for Insomnia. He prescribed me more restoration videos.
Glad you enjoy them 😊
Nothing better than watching these videos on a playlist and just eating noodles. But it's so beautiful! Can't wait for more. Thank you!
Thanks a lot Zander and glad you enjoyed 😊
Re-made better than new. Brilliant.
Thank you very much 😊
As always your craftsmanship and attention to detail are amazing. The end product looks amazing, probably better than when it was new, but I think I like the original patina on the cast body more. Just my opinion. Again, amazing work
Thanks a lot for your feedback mate 😊
My toxic trait is thinking i could do this lool.
Omg. Ive been watching for a while and only really click on the videos with pieces I like. Items i would consider having or is cool.
Everytime I watch a restoration of yours. You get better.

I watch these videos before bed or in my car on break from work. This is the only ASMR-like content I enjoy. It relaxes me on a whole different level. The end result is always beautiful, as well.

Now restore my brain
Too far gone to restore
He makes a new one
I just got to ask who in the hell eats a toasted salami and cucumber sandwich?
People just have certain interest with food 🤷♂️
Those are two of the toppings I get at my local subway bro
Ever tried it? Try it on some good sourdough or rye bread. It's actually really good, though I personally prefer more on my sandwich.
😂
I just have to ask: Where do you come from where salami and cucumber is a weird combo for a sandwich?
This seems like one if the most normal combos to me
Beautiful! Always satisfying to see something that looks like trash restored to better than it was originally made!
Thanks a lot and glad you liked it 😊
Great to see older restored item
Glad you liked it 😊
I don't know about anybody else but I find these videos so relaxing.... great job and great restoration. You got my like and subscription....

Thanks Shaun and glad you enjoyed 😊
I'm not usually into ASMR-like content, but something about seeing stuff being _actually done_ makes it so much better
Thanks and glad you enjoyed 😊
Just PERFECT restoration! It was great pleasure to watch the process. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much 😊 cheers
Every time I watch your videos I think about the designers who create the machines and the fabricators who made the individual parts for it. So much of what we have and use today came from the industrial revolution. I'm not sure that we are as creative and inspired as they were 200 years ago. Digital technology might speed things up today but if it wasn't for the human brains desire to create it we wouldn't be were we are today. Thanks for caring about what is really important. Great workmanship and appreciate you taking the time to share with all of us.
Thank you very much Greg and I’m 100% agree with you 👍
Most beautiful restorations I’ve seen. They are so so cool! Awesome.. I love that the wire slicer made an appearance!.
Thank you very much! 😊 glad you like it
I swear restoration videos like this are the best videos to fall asleep to. Normally takes me an hour or more to fall asleep, but not with these
Glad you enjoy them 👍
Beautiful work, excellent machine work, and the powder coating means this should last a lifetime. 😃👍
I hope to last another 100 years 😬 thanks a lot 😊
Of all the restoration channels on CZcams Cool Again Restoration has the cleanest video of sandblasting, which is my favorite part. This is excellent, satisfying, educational and relaxing content. I especially love the improvised / alternate way some tools are used like chucking a punch into the drill press and using it to push out the pin. 10/10 would recommend. Thank you!
Glad to read these kind words 😊 thanks a lot Tim 😊
I love how you keep your tools immaculately clean and well maintained.
Thank you very much!
Wow, the best video I've seen on this channel so far. Great craftsmanship. Great looks
Thank you very much MT 😊

I just bought the exact Stering Meat Slicer for just $50 from a local thrift store and googled into this. It is amazing to see how you use these tools to remake these rusty and broken parts. I wish there is such a restoration service in my city.
Thanks a lot and keep it safe , it’s a nice item 👍
Im glad you still do videos! I have to say with the last one being a few months ago I was a little sad, I LOVE watching you restore items when I'm going to sleep. It's informative and the natural noises are nice

Nice work. I'll bet this old meat slicer didn't look half as good when new. Modern paints and mechanical processes have taken us a long way forward from 1890.
Thanks a lot and glad you enjoyed 😊
Another excellent restoration! And thanks again for making me hungry!! 😆👍
