@BadDadXX87 Why, you couldn't prove the thief was or was not baptized if your life depended on it. Maybe he was. Maybe he wasn't. Maybe he was saved as a back-slidden Jew before Jesus even died.

@BadDadXX87 He started off reviling Him, but ... he knew that He was sinless and knew that He had a coming kingdom. How did He know that? Could He not have been a backslidden follower of Christ? Unbelievers generally do not speak that way. I'll pray that you re-read the text because the thief is not an example of Christian conversion anyway: the Old Law was still in effect.

@BadDadXX87 Here's what has absolutely no validity: "The thief was never baptized." Try taking that one to court, and you'll find out who is regarded as a partisan and childish commentator. Of course salvation is by faith just as the walls of Jericho fell by faith. I never said it wasn't. The question is, "What is faith?" Do you accept Thayer's definitions? I certainly do. You, however, will not. You'll actually sit there and say that you know more about koine Greek than a PhD who spent his entire life studying Greek and wrote the world's standard Greek-English lexicon. You won't accept Liddell and Scott, either.

This issue of baptism has plagued me for quite some time. Then, I found this verse in Acts 11:15-16 (NLT):
“As I began to speak,” Peter continued, “the Holy Spirit fell on them, just as he fell on us at the beginning. Then I thought of the Lord’s words when he said, ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’
The above verse refers to Peter's visit to the Roman centurion's (i.e., Cornelius) household. They were Gentiles baptized *with the Holy Spirit*, not by water. To me, this is biblical evidence that baptism of the Holy Spirit is automatic when a person accepts and believes in Jesus Christ, and that baptism by water is not mandatory and was necessary only before the Holy Spirit came to this world on Pentecost Day.
Anyone is welcome to tell me if I'm understanding this wrong, and I say this with a sincere desire to understand this issue of baptism better.

It's a command of Christ to baptize the nations so yes you must be baptized. He himself was baptized in water and symbolically received the Holy Spirit.
So like Christ we must be (in His words) born of water and born of Spirit. It is His command and Church doctrine.
Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, and of instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment Hebrews 6:1
For John the Baptist (Mark 1:4) and the apostles (Acts 2:38, Acts 22:16, 1 Peter 3:21, Hebrews 6:1-2, Romans 6:1-12) baptism was about repentance and forgiveness of sins.

Baptism is essential to salvation because it is when one’s sins are forgiven, when one receives the Holy Spirit, when one dies to sin, when one starts a new life, and when one becomes a child of God in Christ. In other words, “Baptism is the time and place that God forgives and saves.” Thus, when it comes to salvation, baptism is not the what but the when. The moment when you receive God’s saving grace is the moment you emerge from the watery tomb of baptism. That is why baptism is essential to salvation. Baptism “completes our response of saving faith,” which “begins with a confessed belief, continues with repentance, and is completed in baptism.”

Michael Park the thief on the right his cross was a repented criminal and he accepted Jesus as his Personal Lord and saviour by saying to the Lord and said " remember me in your kingdom " and Jesus replied to him by saying; to day thou shall be with me in paradise.
Now if you believed that, that is an actual baptism did by Christ to a repented criminal and not a ritual one. As you noticed what apostles Paul emphasizes the meaning baptism in Romans:
Romans 6:3-6 KJV - Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
If I'm that sinner on the right side of my Lord and Saviour, for me that would be a great honor and respect to die with Him, burried with Him and raised with Him because for me that is his actual baptism to me. Glory to the Lord amen.

I said here that water baptism was NOT necessary for salvation. Today while doing bible study I saw where it is absolutely necessary:

Being "born of water" means to be born of the water of the womb (physically born). This is very clear, since being born a second time is what their conversation was about. Verse 6 clarifies: " Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit". Jesus is telling us that after you are physically born, you must also be spiritually born to enter the kingdom of God. So no, John 3:5 does not prove that water baptism is required for salvation. In fact, Jesus states the contrary a few sentences later in 3:16: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever *believes* in him shall not perish but have eternal life." Jesus regularly tells us the conditions for salvation, and water baptism is not one of them.

Do not be confused, Baptism is NOT a work of our OWN righteousness. It is a work of GOD. It is true that our own works will not save us. But Water Baptism in the name of Jesus Christ is NOT our work. God is the one that washes us clean IN baptism. God saves us through water baptism as clearly laid out in scripture. We know faith without works is DEAD, (James 2) and we know our own works will not save is. So the truth is FAITH + WORKS OF GOD. Water baptism is the WORK OF GOD that when we obey, makes our faith an OBEDIENT FAITH. Please read the scriptures below and let the Spirit of God lead you.

Titus 3:5 - Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he SAVED us, by the WASHING OF REGENERATION, and renewing of the Holy Ghost
John 3:5 - Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be BORN OF WATER and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
1 Peter 3:20 - Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were SAVED BY WATER.
    1 Cor 10:1-2 - Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the SEA; 2And were ALL BAPTIZED unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
Col 2:12 - 12 Buried with him in BAPTISM, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the OPERATION OF GOD, who hath raised him from the dead.
Gal 3:27 - For as many of you as have been BAPTIZED into Christ have put on Christ.
Acts 2:38 - Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be BAPTIZED every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the REMISSION OF SINS, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Acts 22:16 - And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be BAPTIZED, and WASH AWAY THY SINS, calling on the name of the Lord.

There are many who are more learned that disagree with you:
    Barnabas (circa 75 AD)
"Blessed are they who place their trust in the cross and descend down into the water... We indeed descend into the water full of sins and defilement, however we come up, bearing fruit in our heart, having the fear of God and trust in Jesus in our spirit."
    Hermas (circa 110 AD)
"Before a man bears the name of the Son of God, he is dead. But when he receives the seal, he lays aside his deadness and obtains life. The seal then is the water. They descend into the water dead, and they rise alive."
Justin Martyr circa - (circa -160 AD)
"But there is no other way than this to become acquainted with Christ; We must be washed in the fountain spoken of by Isaiah for the remission of our sins, and for the remainder of our lives we must live sinless lives."
    Iranaeus (circa 180 AD)
"But there are some Gnostics who assert that it is unnecessary to bring people to the water. Rather they mix oil and water together, and they place this mixture on the heads of those that are to be initiated. .. This they maintain to be the redemption... But there are other heretics that reject all of these practices and maintain that the mystery of the unspeakable should not be performed by visable and corruptible creatures. They claim that the knowledge of the power of God is itself perfect redemption."
    Tertullian (circa 198 AD)
"(Unless a man is born of water and of Spirit, he can not enter into the kingdom of Heaven.) {Quoted from John 3:3} These words have tied faith to the necessity of water baptism, and accordingly, all those that became believers were thus baptized. It was also this way with Paul, that when he believed, he was baptized."
    Cyprian (circa 250 AD)
"One is not re-born by the imposition of hands when they receive the Holy Spirit; Rather it is through water baptism. Therefore, having thoroughly cleansed, he may receive the Holy Spirit."
    Archelaus (circa 320 AD)
" If he (Jesus) was not been baptized in water, neither are any of us baptized. Yet, if there is no baptism, neither will there be the remission of sins. Rather, every man will die in their sins."
    Apostolic Constitutions (circa 390 AD)
"He who, out of contempt will not be baptized in water, he will be condemned as an unbeliever. He will be reproached as ungrateful and foolish. For the Lord says, unless a man is born of water and spirit, he will not enter the kingdom of heaven. (Quoted from John 3:3) and again he said, He who believes and is baptized shall be saved. (Quoted from Mark 16:16)"
There are many more quotes from many other men throughout history that taught that baptism is the method of conversion, where we receive the remission of our sins. The doctrine that you teach is a creation that was invented by the Gnostics and is not a teaching of the Bible nor Apostles nor of Christ. If you want true interpretation of scripture, it is best to go to the writings of the men that were taught directly by the Apostles, lived and worked with them. They did not learn from the scriptures but were taught hands on, directly from those who knew the truth. Trust their words. I pray you have a heart for this truth and can overcome your indoctrination.

I'd suggest you read through each of those examples - and then you'll know what you need to do. Going to Romans - a book that does not contain a single conversion - is certainly a novel approach.

@@Cabmaker When does Christianity begin? Christianity begins after the Pentecost, so that means the thief was saved under the old laws. When Jesus was walking around the earth, they were still under the laws of Moses, Jesus was just teaching people what to do before he leaves this world. It wasn’t until when Jesus died and after the Pentecost when Christianity begins.
Second we need to understand why the thief was saved. The thief was saved because Jesus was an innocent man and his blood was able to pay for that man’s life. This is what Jews practiced before Jesus came under the laws of Moses, they needed innocent blood to pay for their sins. And the shed up innocent blood was usually done on children. They would circumcise children because they are innocent (Matthew 18:1-3). And that shed of blood would pay for their sins, but it wasn’t enough, hence why they did it all the time. So that’s how the man was saved on the cross because Jesus was innocent his whole life and was able to pay for that man’s life. Circumcising of babies was foreshadowing the coming Christ our God, who would pay for all our sins on the cross.
This is why Peter talks about in Acts on why we don’t need to circumcise children anymore as a shed of innocent blood, because Jesus did that for everyone on the cross.
      Hope that helps.

The New Testament teaches that one must:
Believe in Christ (Mark 16:16; Heb. 11:6; John 3:16). Believing in Christ involves believing who He is (the Son of God) and believing what He says (in the gospel).
Repent of sins (Luke 13:5; Acts 2:38)
Confess faith in Christ as the Son of God (Matt. 10:32; Rom. 10:9)
Be baptized for the remission of sins (Matt 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-16; Acts 2:38; 22:16; Rom. 6:3-5; Gal. 3:27; 1 Pet 3:21)

Many passages of the Bible teach that salvation is through faith alone, not faith plus works. Ephesians 2:8-9, for example, is clearly worded and unequivocal: “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast.” Of great importance is the word grace, which refers to God’s blessings on the undeserving. The very idea of grace negates all attempts to earn salvation. Paul makes that argument when teaching on God’s choosing of the remnant of Israel: “Since it is through God’s kindness, then it is not by their good works. For in that case, God’s grace would not be what it really is-free and undeserved” (Romans 11:6, NLT).
Other passages that clearly teach salvation through faith alone include Acts 16:31; Romans 3:28; 4:5; 5:1; Galatians 2:16; 3:24; Ephesians 1:13; and Philippians 3:9.
There are a few Bible passages that, at first glance, seem to teach salvation through faith plus works. One such is James 2:24, which appears to say that justification is by faith plus works: “You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.” This apparent problem is solved by examining the whole of James’ argument in his epistle. James is refuting the idea that a person can have saving faith without producing any good works (see James 2:17-18). Genuine faith in Christ, James says, will produce a changed life and result in good works (James 2:20-26). James is not saying that justification is by faith plus works, but that a person who is truly justified by faith will have good works in his or her life. The works are an outward show of genuine faith in Christ (James 2:14, 17, 20, 26)-and it’s that outward show that “justifies” the believer in the sight of other people.

Sorry Got Questions Ministries and everyone else here. But this is wrong, Baptism is Essential for Salvation. Mark 16:16 "Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned" Baptism is a Declaration of Faith, You are Baptised by Faith and Faith alone. Ephesians 2:8 "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-". You have to remember GOD can not give you his Grace/Salvation by force, he can only do so if you want it. Deuteronomy 30:15-16 "Today I am giving you a choice. You can choose life and success or death and disaster. I am commanding you to be loyal to the LORD, to live the way he has told you, and to obey his laws and teachings. You are about to cross the Jordan River and take the land that he is giving you. If you obey him, you will live and become successful and powerful" these are parallels in The Holy Bible both Old and New Testaments are paralleled. John 14:15 says, "If you love me keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever- the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. " The flesh/world cannot receive the Holy Spirit only those who are born spiritually in the spirit can and only they are able to enter GOD'S KINGDOM, Lord Jesus Christ says so to Nicodemus. John 3:3, "Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again." The reason why people are willfully sinning every day is because they did give their lives to GOD when they have claimed to. When people are sinning willingly after they are baptized, it's because they did not get Baptized by Faith and Faith alone(Declaring Their Lives To GOD In Complete Trust and Obedience)but rather they only did it to please themselves and others. Ephesians 4:4-6 "There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all." Becuase people do not take Baptism seriously and put their Faith in GOD, the renewal of mind cannot take place in that person's life. Romans 12:1-2 " I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect." So yes Baptism is Necessary for Salvation.
Don't think of this for argument sake, I'm just correcting you because I care for you all.

If baptism is necessary for salvation, why would Paul have said, “I am thankful that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius” (1 Corinthians 1:14)? Why would he have said, “For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel-not with words of human wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power” (1 Corinthians 1:17)? Granted, in this passage Paul is arguing against the divisions that plagued the Corinthian church. However, how could Paul possibly say, “I am thankful that I did not baptize…” or “For Christ did not send me to baptize…” if baptism were necessary for salvation? If baptism is necessary for salvation, Paul would literally be saying, “I am thankful that you were not saved…” and “For Christ did not send me to save…” That would be an unbelievably ridiculous statement for Paul to make. Further, when Paul gives a detailed outline of what he considers the gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1-8), why does he neglect to mention baptism? If baptism is a requirement for salvation, how could any presentation of the gospel lack a mention of baptism?

@@Sapari1 Paul's gospel was to preach, that was his main mission, but he did baptize people. I want to refer you to scripture that states it is our duty, "To baptize all nations in the Name of the Father, the Name of the Son, and in the Name of the Holy Ghost" (Matthew 28:19). This is the Great Commission, the last commandment Christ Jesus gave to His disciples before ascending into heaven. That is OUR DUTY, and anything else, is what the Pharisees used to do, make up their own rules to fit their narrative. The Bible tells us that in order to enter the kingdom of heaven, our righteousness must surpass the righteousness of the Pharisees and Scribes (Matthew 5:20). The scriptures also tells us that Christ Jesus told John the Baptist that it was necessary for John to baptize Him......TO FULFILL ALL RIGHTEOUSNESS (Matthew 3:15). I want to leave you with this, if baptism wasn't necessary, why did Paul (of whom you quote so much) rebaptize the disciples that had not received the Holy Ghost? If it is not important, why did he do that? Paul had asked them if they had received the Holy Ghost since they believed (BAPTIZED) (Acts 19:2). The disciples told Paul that they had never heard of the Holy Ghost, and that they were baptized in John's baptism, so Paul rebaptized them in the Name of Jesus Christ, and when he put his on hands on them, they then received the Holy Ghost (Acts 19:2-7). If you are to preach, preach righteousness, not as the scribes and pharisees. "Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge; ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered" (Luke 11:52). If you want further proof, "He that believeth and is BAPTIZED shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be DAMNED" (Mark 16:16).

@@jesuschristsavesu The one specific condition required for salvation is stated in the second part of Mark 16:16: “Whoever does not believe will be condemned.” In essence, Jesus has given both the positive condition of belief (whoever believes will be saved) and the negative condition of unbelief (whoever does not believe will be condemned). Therefore, we can say with absolute certainty that belief is the requirement for salvation. More importantly, we see this condition restated positively and negatively throughout Scripture (John 3:16; John 3:18; John 3:36; John 5:24; John 6:53-54; John 8:24; Acts 16:31).
Jesus mentions a condition related to salvation (baptism) in Mark 16:16. But a related condition should not be confused with a requirement. For example, having a fever is related to being ill, but a fever is not required for illness to be present. Nowhere in the Bible do we find a statement such as “whoever is not baptized will be condemned.” Therefore, we cannot say that baptism is necessary for salvation based on Mark 16:16 or any other verse.
Does Mark 16:16 teach that baptism is necessary for salvation? No, it does not. It clearly establishes that belief is required for salvation, but it does not prove or disprove the idea of baptism being a requirement. How can we know, then, if one must be baptized in order to be saved? We must look to the full counsel of God’s Word. Here is a summary of the evidence:
1-The Bible is clear that we are saved by faith alone. Abraham was saved by faith, and we are saved by faith (Romans 4:1-25; Galatians 3:6-22).
2-Throughout the Bible, in every dispensation, people have been saved without being baptized. Every believer in the Old Testament (e.g., Abraham, Jacob, David, Solomon) was saved but not baptized. The thief on the cross was saved but not baptized. Cornelius was saved before he was baptized (Acts 10:44-46).
3-Baptism is a testimony of our faith and a public declaration that we believe in Jesus Christ. The Scriptures tell us that we have eternal life the moment we believe (John 5:24), and belief always comes before being baptized. Baptism does not save us any more than walking an aisle or saying a prayer saves us. We are saved when we believe.
4-The Bible never says that if one is not baptized then he is not saved.
5-If baptism were required for salvation, then no one could be saved without another party being present. Someone must be there to baptize a person before he can be saved. This effectively limits who can be saved and when he can be saved. The consequences of this doctrine, when carried to a logical conclusion, are devastating. For example, a soldier who believes on the battlefield but is killed before he can be baptized would go to hell.
6-Throughout the Bible we see that at the point of faith a believer possesses all the promises and blessings of salvation (John 1:12; 3:16; 5:24; 6:47; 20:31; Acts 10:43; 13:39; 16:31). When one believes, he has eternal life, does not come under judgment, and has passed from death into life (John 5:24)-all before he or she is baptized.
If you believe in baptismal regeneration, you would do well to prayerfully consider whom or what you are really putting your trust in. Is your faith in a physical act (being baptized) or in the finished work of Christ on the cross? Whom or what are you trusting for salvation? Is it the shadow (baptism) or the substance (Jesus Christ)? Our faith must rest in Christ alone. “We have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace” (Ephesians 1:7).

Answer me why the disciples who had not received the Holy Ghost whom Paul had to REBAPTIZE them because they were baptized in John's baptism only, have to be baptized again if it is not important? It is essential that the scripture be followed to the letter, otherwise, you are no better than the Pharisees and scribes of that timeframe that persecuted Christ Jesus on the cross. @Sapari1 Před 3 měsíci

@@jesuschristsavesu During Paul’s third missionary journey, he encountered some men who are described as “disciples” who had not yet received the Holy Spirit. Luke recounts the incident: “Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples and asked them, ‘Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?’ They answered, ‘No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.’ So Paul asked, ‘Then what baptism did you receive?’ ‘John’s baptism,’ they replied. Paul said, ‘John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.’ On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied. There were about twelve men in all” (Acts 19:1-7).
We know that, when a person is born again, the Holy Spirit takes up residence in that person’s life (1 Corinthians 6:19). If a person does not have the Holy Spirit, then he does not belong to Christ (Romans 8:9). So why is it that these men in Ephesus did not have the Holy Spirit, when it seems that they had believed?
The key is that they had not yet believed in Christ. They did not know about Jesus’ saving work (or the Holy Spirit’s indwelling) until they met Paul. A careful reading of the first part of Acts 19 reveals several facts about this group of twelve men: 1) They were “disciples”-but not of Christ. Rather, they were self-identified disciples of John the Baptist (verse 3). 2) They were not believers in the risen Lord Jesus Christ-Paul’s question about their conversion experience reveals that they knew nothing of the Spirit or His power (verse 2). 3) They had taken the first step-repentance of sins-but they had not taken the corresponding step-faith in Christ.
In short, the “Ephesus Dozen” were still living under the Old Testament economy. They saw the need of repentance and were still awaiting the Messiah. They did not know the Christian message.
A further clue of their spiritual condition is found in the preceding chapter. Apollos, an Alexandrian Jew and a skillful orator, had been preaching in Ephesus (Acts 18:24). However, “he knew only the baptism of John” (verse 25). The only information Apollos had about Jesus was what he had heard from John; thus, he knew Jesus was the Messiah, but he knew nothing of Jesus’ sacrificial death and resurrection. Two believers in Ephesus, Priscilla and Aquila, took Apollos aside and “explained to him the way of God more adequately” (verse 26). After he understood and received the gospel, Apollos became a great apologist for the Lord Jesus (verse 28).
It would seem that the twelve men whom Paul encountered were some of Apollos’ followers. They had been baptized for repentance, but they had not heard the whole gospel message. Paul filled them in on the details of Jesus’ death and resurrection-the essential elements of the gospel-and told them to believe (Acts 19:4). Once the men received Christ by faith, the Holy Spirit, true to form, filled them with His presence. They became new creations (2 Corinthians 5:17).
John the Baptist’s ministry was one of preparation for people to receive Christ (Mark 1:2). He preached repentance of sins, and, as people repented, they showed their change of heart by an outward cleansing. But simply repenting of sin is not enough. We must have Christ. John himself understood the limitations of his ministry: “I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire” (Matthew 3:11).
Those who, like Apollos and the “Ephesus Dozen,” stopped with John’s baptism only had half the story. They needed more than repentance; they needed faith in Christ. The disciples in Ephesus heard about Jesus from Paul the apostle, Jesus’ representative (Acts 9:15). As they received his message, they were baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, and they received the Holy Spirit in a way that publicly, unmistakably linked them to the gospel as preached by Paul.
“For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body-whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free-and we were all given the one Spirit to drink” (1 Corinthians 12:13).

@@merrelise33 You can't claim to have faith in Christ yet not obey his commandment to be baptized and teach false doctrine. The irony of this entire mentality is not only is there never a Sinner's Prayer ever mentioned in Scripture, but read any of the early church writings and you'll see baptism is clearly shown to be a requirement in Salvation.
Acts chapter 2 Peter gives the first sermon of the Church, telling them the Gospel of Jesus Christ, he quotes from Prophets such as Joel, who ends off in Acts 2:21, saying, "And it shall be, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved."
Then when Peter ends off his sermon, he says in Acts 2:36, "Let all the house of Israel therefore know assuredly, that God hath made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom ye crucified." So Peter is telling them the Lord to whom they are to call upon is Jesus.
Acts 2:37 the crowd clearly understood this and ask Peter, "Brethren what shall we do?" Or in other words, "How can we call upon the Name of the Lord?"
Peter says, in Acts 2:38, "Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of your sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."
Now some would claim the greek word "eis" here means "because" and not "for" which is odd as you'd think the majority of Bible translations would've caught onto this, but no say for a select few, nearly every single translation puts it as "for," why? Because as they would tell you the word eis here is clearly pointing towards baptism being needed to obey the Gospel and receive the forgiveness of sins.
But isn't baptism a work? You tell me, it's odd that faith is an action we do, repentance is an action we do, yet baptism is the only thing that's actually done unto you, in other words, for something that's supposedly a work it's the one part you can't actually do to yourself, as is shown when Peter says, "be baptized," not, "baptize yourself for the forgiveness of sins."

Titus 3:5 reads that the Lord saves us" by the washing of regeneration and the renewing of the Holy Spirit".
As the result of being water baptized after repentance is that the Holy Spirit circumcises our conscience, removing the guilt from past sins, and restoring it to its original childlike sensitivity to sin. This makes water baptism regeneration and being " born of the water"
Regeneration is defined as returning something to its original state.
