  • Do not judge. Judging others comes far too easy for most, but in Matthew 7, what does Jesus mean when he says Judge not least ye be judged? Are we to judge not, or Judge righteously? What’s the difference? What does the Bible say about judging people? In this video Pastor Nelson with Bible Munch explains what the Bible says about Judging others to answer the questions, is judging a sin, and what does the Bible mean that we are not to judge others?

1 Corinthians 2:15 ,6:2-3 Its just the opposite for believers. Saints will judge angels as well as the world. Non believers use the verse of " Do not judge others" to protect their sins and cover up their faults.

Exactly, we must practice "Righteous Judgement". You must understand that your Judgement should only have ONE MOTIVE. To bring a person closer to God. Your Motive should be one based in Love. You should not judge a person if you are guilty by the same standards you are judging. Meaning if you are an Alcoholic, are you right in judging your Son who is addicted to Heroin? No, what Jesus taught was take the plank out of your own eye first. Quit Drinking, and then you can practice Righteous Judgement. You are in a better place to guide your son away from Drugs. That's my view of it.

As someone who is not part of the faith, but who's whole family is, the part that always gets me is not the judgement itself, but how one goes about it. To say someone's wrong is one thing. To call them an idiot for being wrong is another.
Forgive me for not knowing the part of the Bible, but it it goes something along the lines of "before you remove the sliver from someone else's eye, remove the plank from your own". I wish more of the world as whole could live by that

Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? [4] Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when there is the log in your own eye? [5] You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.
We shouldn't address others sin without addressing our own and when we do, we should do so in gentleness using right judgement (Matthew 7:24)

The Bible doesn’t teach that. It used terms like liar, adulterer, thief, murderer. Jesus said if you look on a woman with lust you are an adulterer, not just the act of committing a sin. The Bible describes us as literally having a “sinful nature”, as well as sinful acts. David describes himself as being sinful from birth. So we are born with sinful nature from original sin with Adam. We are not good people in between sins. According to Jesus, only God is good (himself) and only Jesus was without sin. If you are saying there are faulty ways of judging then you are right and the Bible explains this as the article paired with video states skillfully. If a parent has a daughter who is raped, they would rightly make a character judgement and never allow the rapist near their daughter again.

I swear people be picking and choosing verses that they like and forgetting all the others. Judging is ok and you do have the right to do it if you do it with a good sense. Never judging stifles growth and without judgement you would be dumb. Judging and criticism is helpful and it’s how people learn. Some people are too scared to call anyone out for their horrible actions because they are to afraid to judge and they feel that it’s wrong. I do judge people but usually not off looks and I don’t like to do it too quickly. I also judge peoples actions for what they are, as people are not their mistake. I feel like the verse is saying that you shouldn’t judge people in a way you wouldn’t want to be judged(as in unfairly) and not “never judge”.

Haven't even watched the video yet but I will guess that it has to do with the fact the judgment is different from discernment.
Judgment is mentally putting down someone, for the sake of jockeying above someone in social standing.
Where as discernment is using the word and our conviction to know good from bad, right from wrong.
    Edit:
If we are discerning correctly and righteously we should discern with compassion, for when we begin to look down upon someone else, that discernment becomes judgment, and thus is now going against God's commands.

When Jesus was on earth - he urged people to forgive and to abstain from judgment - criticism and condemnation.
    Why?
Because when you judge - criticize and condemn others in any way - you will create a barrier between yourself and the other person which will be difficult to removed - no matter how much you may wish to overlook everything negative in them and become friends in the future. Unknowingly - what you reject in others will remain in your mind as a foundation for future discords which will build up and eventually outweigh the affection.
Unwittingly - you will say things in the future reflecting your underlying secret mistrust or displeasure. Instead of accepting the weaknesses of others with Love and helping them deal with and overcome their weaknesses - you will put them on their guard against you and they will never fully trust you. Your mind and their mind will have a secret battle which neither of you will be aware of consciously.

I have had to judge a certain relative because of his very foul language and lifestyle that has gone on for literally decades even causing him to be imprisoned for quite a few years on more than one occasion. He doesn't even comprehend why nobody in the family wants him around them, including me, and I'm the only one who's tried to help him. To top it off he claims repeatedly to be saved but has not a single time in his life given any evidence of it. His frequent outburst of anger, extreme hatred, and almost continuous use of profanity, including taking God's name in vain has caused me to rebuke him a number of times. It has done no good whatsoever. I do not think for even one second that he's ever been saved and to not judge him and tell him he's wrong will only lead him to eternal damnation.
If you take God's name in vain in front of me and profanity flows out of your mouth, we're not going to be friends and I don't want anything to do with such a person. Don't misunderstand me, I've tried numerous times to show this person the love of God and how Jesus Christ paid for his sins on the cross. He knows the gospel VERY WELL, but has NEVER come to saving faith in Christ despite what he says. Furthermore, I question anyone's salvation who talks like that, especially if they take God's name as a curse word. Don't even try to tell me such a person is saved. They simply are not, period, end of story. My whole point is that sometimes judging a person is not only necessary but is absolutely the right thing to do.

Judge means passing a sentence or punishing, and not : knowing and telling right from wrong. When Jesus said, "Judge not" he was talking to both non-believers and new believers. But to the mature believers, "Judge righteous judgement," will apply. When he resurrected, he gave the apostles the right to forgive and not forgive.

Should it not be brought to her attention what God requires because she’s not a Christian? Isn’t that just allowing someone to wander off into sin and NOT love them by calling them to repentance and sharing the hope of the gospel with her? My apologies if you answered this already. Ezekiel 3:18-21 NLT - If I warn the wicked, saying, ‘You are under the penalty of death,’ but you fail to deliver the warning, they will die in their sins. _And I will hold you responsible for their deaths._ If you warn them and they refuse to repent and keep on sinning, they will die in their sins. _But you will have saved yourself because you obeyed me._ “If righteous people turn away from their righteous behavior and ignore the obstacles I put in their way, they will die. And if you do not warn them, they will die in their sins. None of their righteous acts will be remembered, and _I will hold you responsible for their deaths._ But if you warn righteous people not to sin and they listen to you and do not sin, they will live, and _you will have saved yourself,_ too.”

One thing I've noticed is that the people who repetitiously quote Matthew 7:1 like a broken record are almost always atheists/nonbelievers. I find it hilariously ironic how people who don't believe in the divine inspiration of the very book from which they are quoting - indeed, people who haven't even cracked open a Bible once in their lives - are quoting the Bible. Suffice it to say, they're misinterpreting the verse. People don't like being told they're sinning because they don't want to submit themselves to God's law. Instead, they prefer to twist God's Word into something that protects them from criticism.

I SAY... Matthew 7:1 - "Judge not, lest ye be judged", should say, "PRE-JUDGE not, lest ye be PRE-JUDGED." Judging someone is not wrong. It's PRE-JUDGING that's wrong. Humans judge humans all the time. All you have to do is walk into any courtroom to see that. If I see you steal my car and I judge you to be a thief that is NOT wrong or sinful of me. But if my car is stolen and you LOOK like someone who might have stolen it - and based on that I declare you to BE a thief - THEN I am pre-judging you and that IS wrong.

      @keephiscommandmentsandlive9860 Před 2 lety

Problem is most people don't truly understand whats really going on in the Bible, they have been taught a false doctrine, and they look but can't see, they listen but can not hear the truth. There is a difference between judging and rebuking. Rebuking being correcting and warning. Judging being having the power to set forth a punishment. Rebuking is to point out someones sin as to give them warning, no different from if you see someone smoking and you say, hey you need to stop smoking you are killing your body and your smoking can lead to death, thus giving them warning out of caring. And they say hey don't judge me. Or if someone is stealing because they are hungry and you say hey don't steal because you know they can go to jail, and they say hey I'm hungry so don't judge me. But in actuality they did not just judge you but give you warning/rebuked you. They did not make a citizen arrest and lock you up or hand down any kind of actual punishment. Israel had their own judges and their own laws that was set apart from all other nations on the earth. They had their own judges, and these judges was like our judges today except their judges did it in a group as today their is one judge over each case at hand. When Jesus said judge not, He was saying don't be a judge, like if you told someone today don't go to college to become a judge because it's a very big and serious responsibility. Meaning you have the power to take or give life in every meaning of the sense. And to be a judge over them was supposed to carried out by truly righteous men that did not break the very law that they was punishing people for. This is why in Matthew 7:1-3 kjv "Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged, and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?"
Because the same thing you judge someone on earth with is the same thing you will be judged for by YAH (GOD) after death. The only difference is they got caught in life and you didn't but after death those same sins/laws you committed and broke and thought you got away with, you will be judged for by YAH (GOD). This is what people don't realize or understand or comprehend of what's going on in the book of John when the Scribes Pharisees was trying to actually judge the woman caught in adultery. They was not just accusing her or rebuking her they was actually trying to have her put to death! This is why they was speaking of stoning her and Yahusha said let you that have not committed this sin cast the first stone. But they couldn't because He made them see that they where unrighteous judges and could not pass judgment on anyone least they also be judged and stoned. So they quietly creeped away....See it is plainly written here in John 8:4-11 "They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man,"
Noticed He said "Condemned!" At the end....
      "condemned" meaning
      /kənˈdemd/
      adjective
sentenced to a particular punishment, especially death.
      "condemned prisoners awaiting execution"
Satan has blurred the lines between judging and rebuking as to stop us from warning/helping one another. So we will be afraid to tell someone and warn someone we love our care about not to sin or break YAHS laws because we know they will just say what they have been trained to say...."don't judge me!" Or "you can't judge me" not knowing that we actually are not judging them.

Yes he did answer the question, pay attention.
Judgement has a bad connotation, it just means to have an opinion, the very fact that someone is one religion over another would be passing judgement on the other said religion, so it cannot be avoided, the main point is don't be hypocritical.

The Bible promotes fear and control that's not my idea of love you can't burn a person and love them

It’s called conviction, it’s supposed to guide you in the right path. Fear is your friend. The same way you feel fear whenever you’re close to the edge of a cliff and it starts to crumble are you just gonna ignore the fear and let yourself fall or listen to your gut and step back? The Holy Spirit convicts you so that’ll you’ll repent! Also. God doesn’t give us commandments to control us, God indeed gives us free will because he loves us. Its to protect us from the danger of sin. The wages of sin is death and all sinners go to hell without Christ. So, if fear doesn’t cause you to wanna turn to the one who can save you from eternal 11,000+ degrees. What will? Fear is good in this case. Many people who will be burning in hell would realize how much they took for granted the chances such as conviction to repent so they wouldn’t be there. Don’t be in that position. Today is the day of salvation and NOW is the time for Gods mercy. Many who end up in hell would wish that they were even more scared so that they’d have turned away from the sin and turned to the one who grants everlasting life. Make a choice and humble your heart don’t go at the Bible with a prideful heart….
