    Speakers in a synth is actually a very cool feature I wish more manufactures would implement. In fact, one of the things severely lacking in almost all piano action keyboards is the vibration feedback aspect of an acoustic instrument. Sit behind even the cheapest barely in tune piano, and the feel is so direct. Not just string overtones, but the vibration of the harp and wood is connective physical feedback. A light touch gives you an ever so slight buzz to your finger tips, and play a heavy chord like the end of A Day In The Life and you feel a real visceral vibration up your arms and even through your entire body. You don't even need speakers, just put some type of iPhone type vibration feedback mechanism into a keyboard. Hammond tone wheels even buzz and hum and you can feel them when you play them. This is a step in the right direction Roland!

    • @aleksandari.7834
      @aleksandari.7834 Před 4 lety +2

      That is a very interesting point! Feedback feel would never cross my mind. Andy also gave a pretty good reason why they've included speakers. With those two, it is truly a step in the right direction, I agree. If you don't like them, you can always turn them off.

    • @johnnulf624
      @johnnulf624 Před 4 lety

      Dennis Ristow Thank you!!! The vibrations are a huge part of what makes an instrument an instrument. I've thought about that taptic feedback method as well as a way of getting the feeling without the crappy sound that sometimes comes with internal speakers.

    As someone just found out on the gearslutz site , the abm models in the jupiter x and xm is essentially the basic zen-core engine with scaled parameters (dependent on the chosen synth model ) and a hidden input gain for the filters .
    So if roland really wanted ,they could just add the vintage models to the mc707 and the fantom .

    • @ErraticFaith
      @ErraticFaith Před 4 lety

      As an 80's girl, I'd agree that the few reviews we've had haven't exactly made it 'pop' compared to the years some of us have been listening - but many a demo is guilty of that. As always it will be worth seeing it put in the hands of someone productive and skilled. That said Jack/Andertons do usually do better in that regard. Out of the others you've mentioned, OB/Sys8 are reasonable for sure; but it is a bit of a 'strength/features pick and mix'. In that what one does well, another will do someplace else. I would regard their sound output, much like the Novation series to be higher quality (initial review wise) than this - but Jupiter was the sound of the past. So it deserves some development time.
      These days spec battles are going a bit too far. We should remind mindful of output quality. The only thing to avoid out of your list of options is the Korg. They make utterly dated garbage and everything they have is either missing simple features, unstable or over a decade old and really showing its age. If you are going to avoid this, then definitely avoid them lol.

      There are definitely some heated debates on synth nerd forums on everything from physical design and user interface to sound and synthesis functionality or lack thereof. The biggest complaint about synth functionality seems to be inabilities to do filter FM as some of the analog synths modeled. The Roland Jupiter-X will be the most slept on synthesizer on the market! Literally! This is exactly what I needed. A V-Synth GT, Gaia SH-01,Jupiter 80 , System-8 type of synth I’ve been looking for. This is literally the perfect secondary synthesizer of all time next to your workstation what ever you have. This is the best secondary synth of all time!!! may not be better than a Jupiter 80 in certain areas but since I have the Montage 8 it really doesn’t matter and the Roland System-8 in terms
    of analog emulation which I don’t care personally.....this is just right for me!!!! It’s a God sent synthesizer. Next to your Montage, Nord, Kronos, Dixibell what ever you have like this thing is mad lethal I would take this over any Moog under the Moog One in terms of its versatility you can’t really get that with a Moog other than its pure warm analog sounds. Hard to chose between the Nord Wave 2 though after Parris Bowens performance on it and the Roland JP-X since it’s the synth I’ve not wanted but needed! I will need to test them both can’t wait 😊 once things get better lol. Roland Jupiter-X and Omnisphere integration together is RIP to the rest of the world it’s just too OP!!!(Overpowered). Yet I still feel like it’s very underrated synth.

    • @tuneunleashed

      Aleksandar Ivanov Well the best emulation in Roland is the ACB which is the Roland System 8 but this is one of the most versatile synths along with the Jupiter 80 except this is what people want but with analog you can’t do as much versatility or it may take like years and years and years to finally create a versatile analog that’s why they went to modelling route.

    • @tuneunleashed
      @tuneunleashed Před 4 lety +1

      Aleksandar Ivanov Yes it does it sounds more authentic no sound is better than the other it just has more detail then the Jupiter-X. That’s why the Roland System-8 is more limited compare to the Jupiter-X. As the Jupiter-X has 256 notes of polyphony, 61 Keys (etc) it’s just better overall synth inside out in my opinion except the authenticity of the Roland System-8 it feels more alive it’s accuracy is dead on to Roland’s vintage analog synths but....you won’t know a difference they both sound so good once you put them in the mix you won’t know a difference but the system-8 is indeed a better alternative if you can’t afford the Roland Jupiter-X especially at this time! I will go what’s best for me...so I’m going with the X. Nothing is better than the other but in terms of looks the X is just too beautiful and iconic. Definitely my second and last synth I will ever get for the next 40years!

      @ram-4 Před 8 měsíci

      @@akibe7608 I finally got mine (the Jupiter-X) just a little while ago, after lusting after it for years... It has its quirks, as all Rolands do, but I'm loving it so far. You need to put your time in, but once you get the hang of it, it's just simply superb. Despite the retro looks, the JP-80 was pretty much a completely different synth, built on the technology of that time. Back then, it was all about their SuperNatural engine, which emulated not only VA synth tones but especially "realistic" ones like strings, horns, pianos, ethnic instruments. The JP-X is more about emulating their classic synths - although it does have "normal" stuff in there as well with the PCM stuff - and the Zen-Core bit.
      The JP-80 and its SN tones were famous for emulating expressive instruments like Erhu really convicingly - the JP-X does none of that. It's all about emulating those classic synths. The cool thing about the X is, as the demo guy says in this video, is the option to layer Zenology sounds with the retro models. Or layer or split up to four different tones in a Scene.
      Also, the JP-80 was operated and edited almost exclusively in its smallish touch screen (the fad of the day), and it really lacked hands on controls - the JP-X has lots. Although you do end up diving quite a bit in the tiny menu screen - Chorus options are all there, for instance - another Roland trend unfortunately.
      The JP-X is built well, but I'm not a huge fan of the keybed. I expected it to be better at this price point. I think the one on the JP-80 and even the newer Fantoms is better. Also, as you have probably read from forum comments, the aftertouch on it almost unuseable, it's so hard to trigger. The Fantom is even worse.

I spoke to them about it and they said “The Jupiter series is about offering performance features and multitimbrality and no analog synth can do that.” “Your own JDXa just did all that. All you had to do was just do a Jupiter 10. 10 voices with 10 part multitimbrality (alternating between 10 mono synths or polystack mode), step sequencer, arpeggiator, built in Effects and a module version that you could polychain with the keyboard version to get up to 20 voices of analog power. That’s it. Now their stuff just has way too much crossover.

      @Chris Trevanion Lets not forget the Prologue that has gone down in price and is a steal right now. 16 voices with 2 analog VCOs per voice and an extra Digital one that can sound like a VA with the right plugin (16 slots on the dig osc to fill).
      Or one can do, as it is bi-timbral, 8 voices that has 4VCOs per voice, 2 LFOs, Split filter, 2 EG, 2 amp EG.... I mean, that is one hefty 8 voiced analog synth.

      When I saw the JDXa for a first time, I was delighted with its synth analog engine mixed with digital SN sounds. Also the design and interface of that synth is phenomenal to me, reminds me on JD800. But what bothered me was the shorter keybed and only 4 octaves. I think 4 voice analog sounds +64 voice SN digital sounds litteraly begs for 61 high quality keybed with full size keys ( there are eight individual parts - four analogue and four digital - that can be zoned over any span of keys).
      Now, when I see that this analog thing is in fashion (Korg, Behringer, Novation, DSI, etc), I expected that Roland will evolve synth arhitecture of JDXa by adding 4 more analog voice poly to the existing 4 voice analog poly (8 poly total), leave SN as it is and put 5 octaves high quality keybed with aftertouch.
      Instead, Roland decided to leave that path and to go with fully digital VA with 5 octaves flagship model. Design of this JupiterX is also very nice.

The great thing about learning to play melodies is that if it’s wrong - it sounds wrong. No need to get bogged down with scales etc, if the note sounds right it is right :)
