Andy is a synth nerd. I just want to be one. I have owned a Jupiter X for two glorious months and could not be happier.
I love this channel... That's what I created my on synth channel... Live the roland jupiter
the brilliant piano at 3:20.... darn smooth right there. Kudos to the man with the giant watch.
I would place this (and the Xm) in the same category as the Korg Wavestate. The astonishing array of presets on these machines provide a lifetime of sounds to explore and create with.
Amazing synth!
3:26 that is so beautiful, it quantifies all existence. @10min I would have gone to a single note. One of the best demonstrations I ever heard/saw. Some true talents here. Thank you.
Love the retro 80s arpeggiator :)
Contrary to some below this is a quality synthesizer. Imagine being able to use 4 Jupiter 8s or Juno 106s together along with rhythm track in one patch.
So how would that be different than layering a bunch of arturia vst's?
@@MajorOSC no computer needed. All in one setup.
@@MajorOSC ive got an jup x and the low end is crazy on this thing, you cant get that out of a vst
Vst actually can replace this easily and without any effort. If you must go HW, stick with Fantom.
VST's sound like tin compared to the real thing. C'mon people.
I love tue sound.
could you do a workstation comparison video?
, Be great to see what is the best high end stuff out there.
Software is great and can compliment hardware in a variety of set ups. In some cases it can replace the hardware use (not all). BUT, if your a real musician don't throw away the instruments you play. Tuning, Cleaning, Fixing, Playing & "TIME" are all part of the musicianship craft when you become a student and learn to appreciate the core values of making Music. That's unreplaceable. Ain't nothing like the real thang baby ✌️😎 🎵🎶. A true gift from God, Yahweh! Jupiter X sounds and is spot on!
I would turn on the internal temperature ‘feature’ as high as possible, you know...to give the sounds some warmth.
The feature has 3 elements...responding to “real” temperature, manually setting it, and separate “age” setting. They’re a lot more extreme than you’d imagine. Setting the temperature manually and low makes it almost unplayable, notes badly out of tune. The age parameter goes to 100 years and at that level notes drop and other elements are unstable,
Not to negate your point, but you wouldn’t set them to max 😉
Impressive impromptu sound design skills on display 🙂.
Which does sound better the System 8 or this one here (for the Jupiter 8 sounds)?
This video is pretty much a 10-minute Rickroll. Well played!
I do hope they put in to the JUPITER-X the oscillator sync & cross/ring mod sounds like the early Jupiters had please and sliders where the knobs are please just like the Jupiter's +Juno's please thank you best wishes
Could have resized the postage stamp sized screen then if you want to class it as a workstation Roland.
Do you have any idea of how much screens cost in 1985?
But it's not a workstation though, nor is it being marketed as one.

@@Demoulous yes but I've not seen anyone else describe it as workstation
Correct!
Sounds beautiful (sniffles)
Best Secondary (sidekick) Synthesizer of all time!! Yep I’ve said it!!!!
Had to come back here it’s trash!
@@tuneunleashedYou didn't like it in the end?
@@tuneunleashedwhy?
Wow, everyone's a critic! And a nasty one at that! IT'S FREE!!!! Thanks for the demo, guys...
03:25 Beautiful and bright Elton John piano sound of the seventies. Although it's a powerful synth, the piano sounds are typically used most and very important in this golden treasure chest.
Nr1 PLANETA TERA ROLAND JUPITER X. ❤ Ketron event 61 combination perfect ❤
Are the piano sounds from the VPiano engine?
RD stage pianos
What’s the difference between the sounds on this and the Fantom.
Good question! Roland is the leader when it comes to creating total confusion by throwing two synths onto the market at the same time and run them in competition to each other... They did this with the JD-XA and System-8 back then, and here we go again! Buy both, the JX AND Fantom or suffer daily (checking your bank account balances) watching YT presentations of the one of the two you could not afford, wondering if you really need it... Roland - master of sound and master of confusion :-) And then you wonder, if your studio gets to "Rolandy" as 80% of your synths are Roland... the shocking answer is (at least imho): No, because they OWN sound, regardless of what category you talk of - from industrial scream over warm analog to amazingly realistic piano and organ... In regards to sound, Roland really knows what they are doing, in regards to logical decisionmaking - I have my doubts!
@@FrankyGun and then they throw in... zen core. Apparently that means that we can share patches across all zen core instruments! Except no. We cant load a Jupiter x patch into the fantom. Wtf? And still no class compliant audio? Behind every other manufacturer. I give up.
Having owned the original Jupiter, & Juno, i find the Bossa Nova setting on the new X, is far superior!
noice
Caught the Subliminal Rick Roll - But I can forgive you cause you have Miles next to him! The X sounds great, Thanks for the Demo.
Now I got to sell my Motorcycle to get one :!
Meanwhile I’m trying to sell my Jupiter-XM to buy a car LOL
What bike ya selling?
I was tempted by this Synthesiser until I seen a video on CZcams saying the Keys are very noisy also there is just tape which can fade through time above the 80’s Presets.
Demo was good till 2:30
Wot... No Jack
Exactly! The J-X needs some JD!!
Rands Zzob 🤣🤣🤣
FLEETWOOD MAC VS RICK ASTLY
Seriously! - decades ago I was using an MC-50 and SH101 and a W-30 - sadly there seems to be nothing new or inspiring for anyone in the market since the V-Synth. It like Apple - recycling old tech for the masses and extricating every last $ out of a popular product. There may be cheaper ways to do things and technology has certainly progressed. BUT - sonically - there is very little extra on offer in what we see currently in product demos. Yes - on analysis the sounds may be fuller and have a greater depth - but what is being offered and 'marvelled' at as 'something new' is way behind the innovations of the 80's and 90's and even the early 00's
Where‘s Jack? He‘s lightyears ahead of these guys as a keyboardist.
The Jupiter X is not a workstation! It is very arrogant to call a (otherwise great) synth with two tiny, flimsy displays of which one can'e even be read if you are not staring directly at it (positioned correctly on the XM and dead wrong on the X) a workstation. The Fantom is a workstation! BTW - I own a JXM but never have considered it a workstation and it certainly would not be the centerpiece of my studio - but a Fantom would be, or a Yamaha Montage, or Korg Kronos. Said this - Rolands are also the most expensive, always... The Korg Wavestation will certainly teach Roland a lesson in regards to price/value relationship. The heat is on! And - I like Scott Tibbs' presentations much much more than this one.
i would pay $950 (new) for this thing tops. sounds like a roland jv3080 type rompler. the polybrute 12 is the level of innovation and quality a top manufacturer like roland should be releasing as "flagship" level boards. this jupiter x really shits all over Roland's former glory. they must have fired all their electronics engineers or something
Not impressed for 3k. C'mon Roland. You want to be impressed, checkout the Korg Wavestate and for less than a third the price.
not worth near 5 grand in canada !!! price is stupid
Roland will just keep being Roland, won't they? It's like the iconic legacy of the 80s synth era just keeps getting dragged through the awfulness of the 90s rompler era no matter what they try to build. Is someone from the MC-303 team in charge of all product design now? This is more XP-30 than Jupiter 8.
God if I wanted M1 sounds I would have gotten one. This is no Jupiter synth, I'm sorry. Cold & digital. Roland got it wrong 3 times in a row, shameful.
3:26 - So in a ten minute video to demonstrate the virtues of a new synthesiser, the guys plays a cheap rompler piano sound, which hundreds of basic keyboards can do. It begs question - why? I actually prefer my trusty JP-80 which does far more than this.
I also have a JP-80 but haven’t used it for a year; I can no more stand the aliasing. The JP-X definitely sounds better, regardless of an in fact weak demo.
I was seriously cosidering buying the JP-X, but after hearing the demos, I see I won't. The piano in this video is the straw that broke the camel's back.
Krzysztof Ninard Don‘t judge a synth by its probably worst piano sound.
The X is laughable garbage. Wait until you see the Kronos replacement, people are going to be like...wtf....next gen is so very nearly here.
Rainfeather Although the x is on my wish list, I’m eagerly awaiting that Kronos.
boooring sounds
Sounds digital.
Estuardo Morales Well, it is. However, those synth models do sound incredibly analogue. The XV / Zen Core engines are obviously digital ROMplers.
Digital and Very Cold
@@Zealous_Tutorials Only if you want that. It does that AND analog modeling.
Yes it's a digital synthesizer that makes both digital sounds and analog-style sounds via modeling. So it sounds digital when it is using digital-style synthesis and so on...
*sigh*
I think it sounds glorious, however I must admit if I could not afford the $2800 for the Jupiter X i would also say it sounds weak and my VST can do better... so.. here is my comment - "the jupiter X sounds weak and my VST sound better"😃
which vst sounds better ?
@@gigenaia i think you missed my point. I suspect a very large percentage of folk who make that comment simply cannot afford this glorious synth and so feel the need to hate on it.. If i had the money, I would buy one.
oh, my bad. I just reread your original comment. I did miss your point! :) I think it sounds glorious as well--I'm saving up for one and will make the purchase this summer. I'm so stoked!
@@gigenaiawere you happy with it?
No matter how good an instrument can be, manufacturers should employ real musicians to demo them. Watching these pedestrian chord sequences either with pad or Rhodish timbres is boring, uninspiring and can make professionals look for something better somewhere else.
Poor demonstration!
So much potential here - shockingly poor demo tho. Get someone intelligent enough who knows the instrument and put it through its paces properly. Didn’t like listening to s’one experimenting with a few basic triads on an ordinary piano patch. Let’s have a proper demo please.
Yeah,we do a demo.80% piano and Rhodes.👎
