- The Iron Fist Lightweight Decoupled System is making waves in the defense community, redefining what it means to be armored in modern warfare.
Developed by Israeli firm Elbit Systems, this lightweight, bolt-on system is a force to be reckoned with. Easily integrated into American Bradleys, Strykers, and even M1 Abrams tanks, the Iron Fist offers 360° coverage, advanced radar, and the ability to neutralize a wide range of threats before they reach the crew.
Analysts around the web already joke that militaries worldwide will now require an anti-rocket rocket on their rockets to counter their anti-rocket rocket from the Iron Fist.
All this capability comes without altering the vehicle's structure, setting a new benchmark for defensive systems. - Věda a technologie
Dude this channel is so awesome
The anti rocket rocket line was hilarious The big question is can the tank crew reload the system in the field with little training?
Why "little training" why wouldn't they be competently training in ALL systems their tank utilises.
As for "in the field" umm, yes, they would pull back from a dangerous situation in order to reload. that's basic tactics.
Yes, they can reload it in the field. It can't be reloaded from within the tank, so this will only happen between engagements.
I was in the Army's FCS program from 06-09. When were first learning about APS we asked about the infantry support. They were stunned at the question bc they had never thought of it.
The explosive is fairly small as well as blast radius it's non lethal to support infantry in area with only a small chance of shrapnel to any close by but standard body armor is enough to stop it so it's fairly safe as far as anything u can say is safe in war as there is always danger.
Good point, even infantry should have an incoming threat scanner that detects hostile rocket launchers over a grid. It’s not going to stop shrapnel, but at least it would give infantry the time to take cover and prevent damage.
BS @@neonone9164
The other thing not mentioned is that the radar has informatuon regarding the flight path of the incoming round. If it's flying in a straight line, even in top down attacks, it's easy to figure out where the shot came from. So theoretically, it would be easier to return fire sooner.
Thank you very nice🤙
Love the dip socket / cap / 1990's circuit board clip...
Yeah, that was a hoot. No rural internet was available in my rural area 25 years ago so I ended up with an Israeli setup called Starband. Even that was a whole lot more advanced than the '60s board they showed in the clip.
I strongly believe now that the United States acquisition of the 'Iron Fist' that will be integrated to U.S. MBT as well as to other Armour vehicles they are taking measures of safety to its crews and soldiers far better than when I served.
It's been in use for a while and for close to a decade they have been working on improving systems like this, like an actual plasma shield.
Iron Fist was not selected for the M1 series tank because 'Trophy' is a better system but weighs more and requires more electricity than a smaller vehicle can provide. Israel and a US defense contractor are working to integrates the best parts of trophy with the best parts of Iron Fist to create a lightweight system that's as effective as Trophy.
In fac it's APS that is causing the US Army to create a new vehicle to replace the Bradley and the Abrams. Both are severely overweight and maxed out on electrical generating capacity. Also, electric drive will mean that 100% of the engines power will be converted into electricity and (in theory) a generator and 2 drive motors will be lighter, require less maintenance, and cost less than a mechanical transmission.
We have our amour vehicles such as the Namer and the EITAN A.P.C. equipped with the Iron fist@@colincampbell767
Man, I really don't feel like being an infantryman nowadays. If bullets won't get you, if artillery won't get you, if drones won't get you, if CAS won't get you, friendly APS will.
Ofc I know that APS could be turned off, or I could avoid any friendly vehicles with such, but it still blows
Welding a piece of rebar onto the front cap of specific rpg rounds bypasses reactive armor, "usually." Further, onboard air supplies are limited so crude oil in a gallon jug was found to overwhelm the air scrubber systems on our tanks during the 2nd battle of F, when set ablaze, and usually doesnt cause the armor to react when thrown in close quarters.
A great protective device for the protection of troops.
except for the friendly support troops, if they're nearby.

The anti rocket needs an anti rocket for its anti rockets anti rocket which also needs an anti rocket for its anti rocket rocket. 😂
The future is here. Superb
When there’s enough numbers of armour using APS systems there will suddenly be a need to overcome these systems
Iron Fist L/D(is the original Iron Fist APS retooled to fit M2A4 Bradley's and be more compatible with lighter IFV type vehicles...) contract signed with US Army to equip a minimum of one full brigade of M2A4's and as many as 9 Brigades worth.
Iron Fist L/D is also the frontrunner for either of the 2 contending XM30 MICV's Active Protection Systems...
They need to study command and conquer generals zero hour. where you had a drone that hovered above with some lazer point defense, and also machine guns so infantry would not need to be close to the big tanks and get hit by shrapnel; also some vehicles had a main function of being point defense platforms.
there may have been some crossover, because command and conquer zero hour was probably based on real world future tech solutions we will see unfold in time.
C&C zero hour may be old but it was probably one of the best RTS games ever made to this day. It had everything, including a bit of light hearted humor in the voice overs.
Very Interesting System. 👍 🇺🇸
I have heard of Trophy, but Iron Fist is new to me.
Same system although one is Raphael the other is BAE
Doesn't the active radar make the vehicle easier to detect by enemy forces? Could the size of the attacking force be estimated by the number of radars in the formation? We have 20 incoming small active radars. We know roughly half the enemy attacking forces have the APS so we have roughly 40 incoming hostile platforms. Does this make sense?
If incoming forces can be deduced by monitoring radars, then wouldn't using dummy radars, possibly mounted on drones, or using interference patterns to appear spread-out in a formation, multiply the apparent size of incoming forces? Properly implemented, perhaps one tank could appear as a dozen.
getting closer and closer to force field tech every day lmao
With only a couple of counter measures per system seems all you need to do is overwhelm the system. What is it going to do against half a dozen threats?
But getting a half dozen fighters around a tank unseen is nearly improbable.
Would you rather ride around in a tank that can be taken out with one missile or with three?
Any defense system can be outsmarted, overpowered or overwhelmed.
Tanks have Flir and infrared so human detection is easy unless they are on top of the building
Neat.
Ok, the Iron Fist seems like a wonderful addition but am I missing something? Seems to me there's only 2 rounds? I'd assume it's reloadable on the spot but you didn't mention this. Worse yet, if you fire 10 rockets at the same time would just two Iron Fist Rounds be enough? I look forward to your reply...
If you're facing 10 incoming anti-tank weapons, you've already stuffed up your tactics.
Tanks don't just stand there while multiple enemies get in to position to fire, they survey the area, confirm position and strength of enemy units, only move when the risk is understood, fire, move again, fire.
As an enemy fires, IronFist will allow the tank to protect itself, while simultaneously allow the tank crew to locate and return suppressing fire.
When you're in a war zone, in a tank, would you rather have an APS system with 2 rounds or no APS at all?
10 rockets is too demanding for troops
It's a matter of how may incoming attacks an average tank will face, which I'm guessing is less than 2 per corner. Obviously some amount of firepower will overwhelm any defense.@@Yxalitis
@@xxxYYZxxx Study tank engagements, both tank to tank battles, or tank vs urban areas,
They simply never face 10 incoming AT rounds, the entire premise of the comment is flawd.
If u have infantry behind the tank and this goes off. What happens to them?
It looks like it only has 2 anti rockets on each side without a way to reload unless pulling away from the battle which in a urban environment isnt always the easiest. The next thing they should do is find a way to have more ammo for it or a reloading system. A 6 barrel rotating cylinder like a M32 40 mm grenade launcher would be sweet just as a thought.
As mentioned in the video, each of these "self contained APS systems" are specially calibrated and non-reloadable. Oh, and they probably cost around $100k per unit. War ain't cheap. :(
Well, we gonna need some new wars to test all that fancy tech in order to show the result charts at the next defense trade shows.
How come its a rocket instead of shotgun shell?
But will it work with an overhead drone strike ?. Seems to be more of a side profile interceptor.
Was wondering same
Ecm will work against this, drones need signal to work.
Does this work for top-attack defense as well?
Per General Dynamics web page: "360° coverage, high elevation angle". So, mostly?
I want a couple of those on my truck. How much do they cost?
APS adapted use for Top Attack from drones where the weak armour is
Well, that's a lot of rocket, rockets
The thing is some one is or are trying to defeat this defensive systems. I wonder what it's going to look like and how it's going to defeat this vehicle defensive systems.
Wasn't too long ago we were knapping flint to make arrowheads, spears and axes.
What the Israeli war on Hamas showed is that the active protection system is less effective in urban areas where walls and other obstacles close to the vehicles may block the sensors.
Is this system being used with Israel and its current situation
Thank you
have we seen hits or APC detonations? It's not clear
@trollmcclure1884 I've seen Hamas videos on Rumble, but almost all of them were probably the active defense system working. However, at least one infantry vehicle was on fire, and it looks like it was hit when only a part of the rear of the vehicle was showing around a corner of a wall
@@jasestrongthey use the trophy system on merkava
How would it work against a Krupp 88 ?
Looks great but though the Abrams is probably the finest tank in the world, it is not invulnerable. It can be destroyed like any other tank though maybe not as easily.
really? kk
Its gonna get testet to it break in Ukraine, i am sure they gonna break ..
Almost a force field. I wonder if I hit it from three sides if that would overwhelm the system and one could get through! I am sure that has been discussed.
The anti rocket rockets exist now…you have to shoot 2 rockets at once in order to be effective, you see it on Gaza, they have double launchers for 1 strike
The anti-anti rocket rockets enters the chat
Still not clear if that method is effective.
Next up, machine gun style rocket launchers for mass mayhem. They will soon be calculating rocket and missile volume in terms of rpm. Along with mass swarms of drones, of course. With AI and automation you could have clouds of all this stuff, all at once.
Sure, because it can only fire one time....not like it comes with multiple rounds or another one right below it......uh huh.
Rpg7-vr tandem warhead
One is forced to wonder how well it would work at defending against discarding sabot-launched tungsten or DU penetrators.... I mean, sure I can totally see the Iron Fist anti-missile-missile destroying a relatively delicate incoming missile... but what's it going to do against something that is basically just a fast moving lump of metal? Would it be possible to detonate the Iron Fist anti-missile-missile powerfully enough, and far enough fromt he defending vehicle to push the incoming projectile off course prior to hitting the defending vehicle?
Iron Fist and Trophy APS systems are amazing against ATGMs and RPGs, but pretty much ineffective against KP weapons. It's just not what they were designed for.
In today's warfare, if it can't defend the vehicle from top it doesn't matter. All examples are of side mounted attacks. Must provide protection overhead all vehicles.
Trying to use as many words on your essay as much as possible as it sometimes works as shown on essays
How difficult is it to “reload”?
Very ingenious defense system similarly to the Trophy both of Israeli origins. Now we have anti-rocket rockets.
Let's just try it out on about 30-ish M1s that may be in a combat zone somewhere, hmmmm.....I wonder where...?
Anti-rocket rockets rocketing rockets.
The system doesn't work in close urban terrain. You now see effective attacks launched from breezeways
yet a another Dark Tech "Force to be reckoned with" video
I wonder if we could put a similar system on our attack helicopters. It would be more of a challenge, but maybe we could do it.
This will change warfare.Effectively put a stop to infantry hunter/killer teams attacking tanks & other military vehicles
America needs these on EVERYONE of our military vehicles.
One cool thing that isn't mentioned here is that Iron Fist can be installed on helicopters too, which could help less armored systems (like choppers for medivac) survive.
From what I hear, a man walking up and setting a 100$ device defeats this "Impenetrable" shield.
I mean, yeah, popping up out of a tunnel and placing an explosive on a vehicle isn't going to trigger an APS. Of course, most of those attacks have resulted in the death of the attackers, with the few that result in a video of them not actually taking out a tank. It's a cool PR move, but it's not really an effective combat tactic.
Yo dawg. I heard you like rockets with your rockets 😆
But it looks like you have to reload it from the outside.
Is it effective against tandem rockets?
Yes, it was designed with Kornet missiles and tandem RPGs in mind, as Israel decided to build this after taking some losses in Lebanon in 2006 to tandem threats that were breaking through ERA armor (which was also invented by the IDF). The only ways you beat it with an ATGM are saturation or super-high speed (although nobody has actually released an ATGM fast enough to beat it, Russia is trying).
@thesarcasticliberal thanks for the update cool stuff 😎 👍
What if had two (or more) US tanks in close proximity to each other would these impenetrable shield weapons identify friendly fire as a threat?
Read an article recently about how the US Army can not integrate Iron Fist onto wheeled armored vehicles including the Stryker and sre looking for alternatives.
why?
@@telesniper2 it is not effective enough.
Yes the CREW stays save, but any infantry close to the vehicle will take friendly fire. That´s not exactly friendly.
Israelis dont seem to hang around or hide behind their tanks
They'll also need to use the Iron Yarmulke system for drone defense. Drones attacking tanks from above has been the biggest threat, but the Iron Yarmulke (also from Israel) provides the best protection.
Trophy protects from attacks in all directions, including overhead-180 degrees.
@@mikedunn7795 Iron Yarmulke is man portable and can protect encampments, while trophy is limited to being installed on vehicles.
That has the potential to hurt pwn forces.
Does this system protect against drones?
Well, the first two at least. The next ones after that, not so much
so if i were a bad guy, i'd wait for the dismounts to get a bit away from the hull then just fire at the apc... let their own defense system shred the dismounts.
imagine Launching thousands of the same technology into space to destroy incoming nuclear missiles but a more powerful explosive of a bang
Derivative of Iron Dome .
so only 2 shots before it needs to reload? and what about protection againts tiny drones dropping bombs
You may have noticed that this hasn't been a concern in Gaza. It's not been talked about a lot, but Israel has a system called Scorpius that acts as a multi-spectrum jammer and EW system. This shuts down virtually all drones in a battlefield, which is why we haven't seen a lot of Ukraine-style FPV footage coming out of that war.
I bet it works as well as a cope cage
Iron Fist system.
I heard Hunter is involved and a
10% hold back is required for the “big guy”.
What a moronic comment 😂
A great system.
Trophy is also doing well in Gaza, despite claims to the contrary. Not all tanks are attacked with ATGM's. Roadside bombs are harder to guard against for example.
Nonetheless, Trophy is still intercepting around 90%+ of the incoming RPG missiles in an urban environment. Sadly not 100% though.
I’d say that 90% success rate is amazing considering the short look conditions of urban combat. I’d bet that the success rate is actually higher, but with multiple in-coming, the system gets overwhelmed kind of like Iron Dome. They literally run out of defensive projectiles.
@@johnhiggs325 the system is designed to target the source of the missile in order to hit the source, so ideally you'd kill any RPG teams before you'd run out of ammo for Trophy.
@@WildReefer
Ah. I’m so out of the loop these days. I didn’t realize you were talking about a different system. 😆

Maybe I should shut my mouth and pay closer attention.😜
Trophy is not foolproof. Any intelligent infantry can get aroundnyhose defenses. Besides trophy can't handle 3 anti tank guided missiles fired simultaneously.Ahahaha.
An anti-rocket rocket on their rockets to counter the enemy anti-rocket rocket....YEPPPP, you KNOW the military industrial complex/arms industry/defense contractors are LOVING THIS...MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY! (what she want....). Imagine what those will cost?
This is why the "aid" to Israel will never be cut. We give them a couple billion a year (75% of which they are required to spend on US weapons) and they develop stuff like this that we are first in line for. It's the same with tank ERA, Predator drones (developed by ex-IDF drone developer Abraham Kerem), Hero drones (now the official USMC drone), Iron Dome, and the F-35 EW upgrade package. Ironically, we actually stand to make money off this system.
Israel is unbelievably good at R&D, but lacks heavy industry. This means that, for systems like this and the Iron Dome, they hand off manufacturing to the US. Basically, they design it, we take over manufacturing it, and sell them the finished systems to them at a fraction of the price (eg. all Tamir Irone Dome interceptors are made in the US by Raytheon). Of course, the other side of this is that any nation other than Israel that wants to buy these systems has to come to the US to purchase them, and they pay full price, which more than offsets the cost of the discounts to Israel.
In reality they burn like torches
Does it work in real combat ?
How do you define real combat?
It works if a rocket is fired at it, that's pretty real, no?

Are these systems being used in vehicles provided to Ukraine by the US and NATO?
I don't think so. Too new. Don't want the Russians getting a hold of it.
Sadly, no. The US stripped the APS systems out of the Abrams and Leopards sent to Ukraine, as Trophy is generations ahead of anything Russia or China has. Russia capturing an intact system was deemed to be too large a risk.
@@thesarcasticliberal thank you sir !
@@jasestrong No problem. It's not really well-known that Trophy and Iron Fist are the only two combat-tested APS systems in service today. Russia's Arena doesn't work and China's is completely untested (and based on the Russian Arena). As I mentioned above, even the US and Germany have bought one of those two systems (made by Israel) rather than try to build one of our own. If Russia could capture a working copy of the system, they could reverse-engineer it, or give it to China to reverse-engineer, and then NATO would suddenly lose the edge of being the only side with tanks that can neutralize ATGMs as a serious threat.
Imagine if Russia's tank forces early in the Ukraine invasion weren't vulnerable to Javelins and 95% of incoming strikes were blown up. Ukraine would have been steam-rolled before they could get help from the west, fortify, and start implementing systems like the HIMARs.
It doesn't work in case of top Attack: merkava 4 tanks (you can see in Gaza) are equipped with metal cages (like russian T72 in Ukraine). Outdated!
The Merkava's there are using Trophy, not Iron Fist. That is mounted only on the Eitans.
The cages are for molotov cocktails. The Trophy system works against over head threats.
The cages are for grenade drops, which are too slow for the APS to recognize as a threat. If an APS were programmed to react to something like a grenade drop, it could be exhausted by throwing rocks at it, forcing it to waste ammo.
Ironically, it's kinda Dune shield rules--defenses are strongest against the fastest threats, so the only ways to beat it are lower tech and to slow to be recognized by the system.
The question is how has Hamas managed to defeat the Iron Fist system? Current reports of over 400 armor vehicles, which includes Tanks and IFV have been destroyed so far?
That is BS propaganda put out by Hamas. No credible news source has said Israel has lost anything like these numbers. Hamas is as credible as Russia is.
