  • As the saga of the Ukraine conflict unfolds, global powers edge closer to a definitive stand. The possibility of a more direct Western intervention lies heavy in the air, their arsenal boasting formidable weapons that could alter the Ukrainian fate.
The debate stirs around the prospective deployment of the Abrams or the Leopard tanks, these fearsome vehicles symbolizing Western might. Either could provide a crushing advantage to the Ukrainian forces, turning the tide of the battlefield in their favor.
However, amid these contenders, a new challenger emerges from the minds of French innovation - the Leclerc Tank. This behemoth matches its American and German counterparts in firepower, mobility, and protection. Its claim to fame, however, is a groundbreaking degree of automation and digital integration, with advanced fire control and battlefield management systems that reflect the future of warfare.
The Leclerc forges its own path, embracing an active defensive philosophy, pivoting towards agility and response. Encased in thick modular composite armor, it readies to weather the harshest warfare conditions.
Now, the world watches as the drama unfolds, anticipating the possible advent of the Leclerc and its trailblazing technology into a new chapter of the war in Ukraine…

French engineers lacking in technology ? oh boy :') Most of the time France is teaching the world that instead of wasting billions for techno making things simple is just the way. For instance just look how many copycats were born from the CAESAR, litteraly a gun at the rear of a truck, instead of the PZh2000. The problem is that the Leclerc tank is no longer produced, so it is impossible for France to deliver tanks to Ukraine as it already must maintain it's own fleet and also the 400 of Jordan and Emirates.
However it is undoubtebly an exceptional tank, I would argue better than the Abrams is it is highly mobile and above all easier to maintain with a lighter logistic. It is also one generation younger than the Leopard 2 however the German tank in 2A8 version is now modernised.

Not only for Ukraïne, also for NATO itselfe. All these different tanks means lots of different parts, also critical parts like engines/powerpacks. It also mean higher development costs, also for education and lower numbers build, which will rise the price per piece and running costs. You don't want that. You want a broken down French tank to be fixed in the nearest field repair shop and get a new powerpack there, no matter if that powerpack originally worked in a Leopard or similar. That is the best way to keep as much tanks in action. It is not that the Leclerc is a bad tank or the Leopard is superior or the K2 is the best. It is just that there are to many different tanks.
It would already be great if they all used the same tracks, since tracks is a critical item.

Lol No. Also, how dumb is it to suggest a tank may be the cause of starting a new world war? Any main battle tank is ultimately as good as the operating faction's ability to move it to and around a particular battlespace and other logistical challenges. Not that it "May" start another world war, which is still a stupid statement, the Abrams X is absolutely terrifying with the logistical problems it solves and industrial abilities of the nation producing it comparatively, not to mention the tech.

Vive la France! 🇫🇷 Nothing wrong with French technology! The use of a .50 cal in the coaxial position instead of a 7.62 is an excellent idea that leverages the extended range of that cartridge using the main gun sights. That actually makes more sense than the other configuration. No mention of the different main gun exhaust- the Leopard and Abrams use passive mitigation, the LeClerc actively pumps air into the barrel after firing. Other French weapons systems are also superior in some ways to the rest of NATO. The Rafale is another good example. During the attack on Libya, the French flew Rafale’s over Libya before the air defense network was taken down by cruise missiles thanks to the unique electronic warfare suite utilized by that aircraft. That technology is so secret that it is not exported, nor shared with allies to my knowledge. Millenium7 has a good presentation on the Rafale.

I like almost all the western tanks currently in service but the issue I see especially in the EU is the quantity of tanks. France, Germany, and Britain have very small tank forces and with everything being seen in Ukraine it seems like that could be a huge problem. The quality is superb but are the numbers enough? or are we all just hoping war never breaks out? Not for nothing but it seems like the readiness issues and military issues in general are not really being taken seriously.

Whilst I am always happy to seem more tanks in service, Western forces practice doctrine that is very different to Ukraine and Russia. Ukraine lacks the arsenal to wage combined arms maneuvre warfare and secure aerial superiority, yet alone dominance. Russia makes no effort to own the skies because it doesn't expect to compete with Western forces, so it is focused on area denial and uses waves of armour / infantry (as it did during the Soviet era and and often did during the time of the Russian Empire). At the small unit level, Ukraine's tactics have improved across the last decade (thanks to Western training and combat experience) but at the strategic level, it remains trapped in something resembling the Russian way of war because it is hard to transition a whole military to a new doctrine during an active conflict (as units are necessarily fighting to hold the line and cannot be withdrawn for new training).
As a result, there remain large sections (perhaps the majority) of the Ukrainian military that is only trained and experienced in the Soviet legacy. The Ukrainian military will experience massive transformation after the war but even then, as now, there will be challenges because 'experienced' commanders and soldiers often resist change; feeling that they 'know' what's best thanks to their combat experience. It could take decades for the Ukrainian military to fully modernise and in the meanwhile, they will need a lot of armour and men. Thanks to technological advantages offered by Western aid and often superior small unit tactics however, the Russians will probably continue to need much more fodder (sadly, that's what their personnel often amount to).

If I had to choose between a Western tank and a Russian tank in the event of a powerful EMP event (powerful enough to matter), then I would take the Western tank every time. There are layers of redundancy built in that old, mid-century technologies didn't offer and for the most part, that's what one expects in a Russian tank. Besides, you need a good fire-control system and don't want it to knocked out by EMP or simply have none to begin with...
