I think the crazy thing about this song is that, at this point in the movie, you have literally no idea who she is or WHY she’s mad. She’s just a maniac coming at you with a scythe.

It's a show and the acronym is the first letter of the main character's names, it's also their team name (pronounced Ruby)

I'd recommend giving it a try, even though the animation is kinda meh for the first few volumes.
As a huge fan of both shows and of him, I'd gladly wait as long as it takes to see him do both :)

I LOVE that Spinel's weapon is a Scythe. Something that was once a symbol of prosperity what with farming and all, but has since evolved into a symbol of death. . . . kind of like her. Used to be something positive and sweet, and is now 'broken'.
😵, love the symbolism.
I highly doubt the spinels weapon is the rejuvenator. Its very unlikely for a bubbly sweet and playful gem to have such a destructive weapon. She probably just found it and stored it inside her gem

I feel kinda bad, everyone's getting him to listen to / watch all these songs and he's getting a whole bunch of spoilers for the show. He said he's probably gonna watch it, and if he's been paying attention to these videos he'll probably figure out some of the secrets near the beginning even though they aren't revealed until season 5
He also is seeing these things with no context. Like he literally said they all died when they were just poofed. There’s still so much of the show and the lessons from the show he hasn’t seen. I think David knows the show is still worth watching since he said he still wants to watch it. It’ll be so entertaining to watch his reaction videos to the show and seeing him connect the dots from the songs

I agree with Peace and Love on the Planet Earth and Do it for Her. The jam song is only like a minute long so maybe too short for a full video but it’s worth including in maybe a multi-part video.

I will add that a lot of the people asking you to watch SU are probably not just wanting you to solely for the songs and story, but also for the messages in the show.
Personally, this show has helped me when I was in a very dark place. And it continues to help me even though it's finished now. I've felt more connected to some of these characters than I've ever been with other shows' characters. It was enough to motivate me to share this show with my mother. And now when I visit her, we watch it together. One episode even let us have a very important heart to heart with each other.
And I hope that when you're able to get around to watching it, whether for reactions or just on your own, that it really helps you in a big way, no matter what you may ever be going through or need to hear.
I watch this show with my grandmother! When she comes every morning to drive my brother to school, we watch it together.

Yeah, she’s straight up having a literal manic episode. This canonically takes place about 1-2 hours after the end of the story from “Drift Away”. All she needed was a name and a planet and she came in swingin’!! 🤷🏽♂️
Yeah her thought process, wasn't exactly all there. She was just so excited to finally starting shredding the gems to bits. Which she did with ease tbf
After Steven says “Can you tell us who she is” you can see her going through the emotions from shocked, to realization, and finally boiling rage
I would say The Distant Shore is the most vocally impressive Steven Universe song. Highly recommend

“Better then you” from Camp Camp, and “Nothing Left to Lose” from Tangled the series are 2 great songs I saw some others suggets. Both are like duets and they’re so different yet the same 🤗 this reaction was great to watch, I really enjoy how you dive into the musical part of it and I always thought that end reminded me of James Bond lol

I don't know how so many lyrical versions of this song can get it wrong. Like Amethyst obviously says "I'm rusty, give me a break!" because they haven't had something to fight in a long time. But in multiple lyric videos I've seen them write "I'm resting" and "I'm rusting" and it's just like "what"
Honestly this must be such a difficult song to sing and the va did it great. The amount of expressive rough vocals and the power her voice gives to an already dramatic melody is insane. Haven’t seen the video all the way through yet so I don’t know how much of this you will have already said but that’s what I have to say about this song. Instant classic for the series.

@@DavidTheHooman omg yesss! BUT when you listen to "waiting in the wings" there is also a reprise which is just a masterpiece. Then it's "I'm crossing the line" and only then "nothing left to lose". Although you should listen to "I will make you proud", I know you've already reacted to "ready as I'll ever be", but I don't know if you understood the reason for it, and "I will make you proud" (which also has a wonderful reprise) kinda explains why he went bad in the first place. All in all, NLTL should be the last song you react to, because only when you listen to the rest of those songs, you'll be able to fully understand the story.
“Let’s Only Think about Love” is a good cheerer upper from all these depressing song...mostly. 😂

One of my favorite things about SU is that each of the main characters has an instrument that represents them! It doesn't come into play in this particular song, but I remember you listening to a Garnet song and mentioning the synth, which was great because the synth is Garnet's intrument!

Btw, here’s a list with the steven universe movie songs in order in case someone is curious. (An explanation of what happens between brackets, so those are filled with spoilers)
The tale of steven (the opening of the movie. The diamonds tell us some important parts from the first five seasons of the show)
Let us adore you (The diamonds beg steven to stay in their palace as a replacement for Pink diamond)
Happily ever after (Steven is happy that all their problems are over. Everyone is at peace. This song also introduces the main cast and the most important parts of their backstories)
Other friends (a new gem finds her way to earth. She wants to take revenge on Steven and his friends for reasons yet unknown. Pearl seems to know her)
System/BOOT. PearlFinal (3).Info (Pearl reforms after being poofed, but has lost all her memories. The same goes for Amethyst , Ruby, Sapphire and the new gem, who’s name is revealed to be Spinel.)
Who we are (Steven tents to Bismuth, Lapis and Peridot in the hope that they can help. However none of them have any ideas until Spinel comes up with something. She says they should try to let them relive their memories in order to get them back)
Isn’t it love? (Sapphire saves Ruby from being shattered and they fuse into Garnet. However this action doesn’t reform their memories)
No matter what (Steven hangs out with Amethyst and decides to bring her back to places she knew very well. After some time Amethyst gets her memories back)
Disobedient (Sadie Killer and the suspects are having a concert. They sing a song in the hopes of getting Pearls memories back. When it doesn’t work, Amethyst shape shifts into Rose Quartz in hopes to trigger something within Pearl. This doesn’t work either)
Independent together (Steven realises that they need to “get rid of” Greg if they want Pearl to return. So he fuses with his father Forming Steg. This works to get Pearl back but Spinel runs away in shock)
Drift away (Spinel got her memories back and tells Steven about how his mother, Pink diamond, abandoned her for “other friends”, explaining her anger in the song with the same name)
Found (Steven tries to calm Spinel down bu saying she’ll find someone who does care about her. Spinel misinterpreted this and though Steven was talking about himself)
True kinda love (Spinel gets a panic attack after she thinks everyone’s just gonna abandon her again. She decides to destroy the town in a faster paste as before. This somehow gives Garnet her memories back and she sings this song while fighting Spinel/ saving the town’s folk)
Change (Steven tries to talk Spinel out of destroying everything saying that she could change. This only makes her angrier until she completely breaks down on him)
Let us adore you -reprise (the diamonds come to earth to get Steven back, but instead decide to take Spinel with them as they want someone to represent Pink diamond, and Spinel wants someone to care about her. So it’s a win win.)
Finale (it’s just the finale of the movie. It doesn’t have a lot of story in it)
If you like Steven universe, the actor for Steven has an album. His name is Zach callison and my favorite song is "phantom love" from his album picture perfect Hollywood heartbreak. I recommend listen to them all in order though. It has a sort of story

I also recommend literally every music from Carole & Tuesday. Is difficult to find a music in this show that isn't great, but to narrow it down, "Light a Fire" and "The Loneliest Girl". "Galactic Mermaid" too, even though this one is a joke song, it will get you some good laughs

What I really loved about the line “I’m the loser of the game you didn’t even know you were playing” is that it’s referencing another song later in the movie where spinel sings about how pink diamond left her in the garden by tricking her into thinking it was a game, and then pink diamond completely forgot about spinel and left her to rot in the garden(currently during that song spinel doesn’t really understand that Steven doesn’t know who she is) and so she’s saying she got tricked by “him” and lost the “game” that he didn’t even know was happening
You should totally react to “Love Like You” from SU, it’s a really pretty song and fits many of the relationships between the characters!

The singer and voice actor for Spinel is Sarah Stiles who is a big on and off broadway singer. She mainly sings in jazzy or upbeat musicals. The song drift away was hard for her cause she usually does upbeat songs. She’s truly amazing. You should check out her singing live at New York comic con in 2019. Also now for a recommendation you should listen to a CZcamsr called Anna Patsu. She has an amazing voice. And her Aladdin covers are amazing!

Hey sincerely thank you for the request. As you can probably infer I get a lot of requests. And Ideally, I’d like to get to all of them, so basically what I do is the following I find go over last weeks video. Collect the suggestions that where upvoted the most and from there I go to the community tab for suggestions. And pick two extra songs. One that is popular and another that is obscure. Fun detail you might not have noticed, but from the moment she jumps off the injector to when she comes to a rest on the lighthouse, she is constantly in motion.
Something I love about this song is that it’s out of context regardless of if you’ve seen the series or not. Spinel is still unknown at this point to everyone, and nobody knows what her deal is. Also, apparently, the voice actress did this in one take, which... holy moly
Keep up the good work. Recommendations for reactions are: "Day Five: Voices" by Ayreon for an interesting song rhythmically and "Ichiban no Takaramono" (Yui final Version) for a beautifully structured and voiced song from the anime Angel Beats! The first song is a part of a rock opera so it has progression and multiple voices and the second song is on my rainy day playlist and my playlist for when I can't get to sleep.
EDIT: Actually for a killer anime song "Crying for Rain" by Minami is amazing. The melody of the lyrics is so much fun in the song.

I’m surprised there aren’t any comments of this song from the movie, let us adore you (reprise)! It has a beautiful and complicated harmony, not to mention how cute it is.
You were right with guessing the correct movie with it being Aladdin. However, most of us would likely agree that it sounded more like if not a down right tribute to "Friend Like Me" in terms of lyrics, beat, melody, and opposite meanings. Look up how those two merge together nearly perfectly. As an added note, I suggest the next song you should listen to is "Do it for him/her" it has amazing subtext.

I personally think that the movie shows most of the stages of grief: This point is anger, Drift away was the pain and denial/shock and denial. Depression is shown at the end of Change, the upward turn is at Let Us Adore you, reconstruction and working through/acceptance and hope is Steven Universe Future.

Garnet Amathyst and Pearl did not die, they lost their phisical ( or hollographic ) form due to to mutch damage. However the Rejuvinator is a weapon that sets the gems to the " Factory settings ".

I just super enjoy all the after thoughts, and commentary on the notes, the vocals everything. Personally I just love the growly undertones she hits on some of those notes. It just - yes! Also that one line - the loser of the game you didn't even know you were playing. I am really glad you're getting to do these songs, though I'd wish to see song reacts through the series if you did plan on watching it. I mean it'll still be a nice journey even if you know most of what's coming but you're getting all the highlights before the show.

When gems take serious damadge to their physical forms, they dissapear and all that is left are their gems.
It's like their way of healing without being interrupted, a chamber only they can access.
As long as their gems aren't broken, they will be fine and will return good as new!
Since you're so in tune with music, I suggest you watch the series in full. There are tons of beautiful moments and songs.

Awesome video! Just starting to watch your content and can’t wait to see you grow. Something I love about this song is that because she’s been waiting thousands of years she’s kinda stuck back in time which you can hear in the song. It’s reminiscent of the 30s/40s. You can also see that in her animation style in the movie.

I kinda tend to think this song is inspired by the electro-swing type of music, which fit spinel character. She was a toy that went to be outdated, plus her first design resemble a lot old Mickey Mouse, but she changed a lot since she realised she was abandoned by Pink diamond, both physically and mentally. Electro-swing is litteraly a mix between recent music and instruments, and swing which was popular around 1920-1940.
to answer your question, they didn't die, they got "reset", made to forget who they are. the plot of the movie is that they need to re-remember themselves. the other song you did before, was spinel re-remembering herself (steven hits her with the same weapon a min' or two after the song ends here)
Not sure if anyone suggested this, but from Steven Universe possible time react to the song “Here We Are In The Future” from the movie, because it’s a perfect abridged and intro song of the whole show and “The Tale Of Steven” the first song of the movie where it was originally inspired by the intros of very old Disney movies.
