What really keeps Vader alive is his hatred and anger. He hates everyone, especially himself. When he lets go of his anger in Return of the Jedi, he can no longer stay alive and he dies.

The reason why Vader died is because of Palpatine was using force lighting on Luke and when Vader picked up his master his lighting went into Vader's mechanics via shutting everything down. He couldn't use the dark side to survive because he redeemed himself by killing his master and returning to the light side.
Sterling Archer exactly otherwise he would’ve survived so technically he killed himself will sacrificed himself to fulfill the prophecy of “the chosen one” but if he killed his master then killed Luke we would’ve been seeing him in the new Star Wars films
He could have used it if he had actually wanted to, it's just that he would need to surrender himself to it, allowing it to flow through him and bargin with it to heal him in exchange for him giving up on the light side.
If Vader survived he would have been branded a criminal and tried possibly executed. That would have put Luke in a very tough situation. And possibly he would break his father out of prison and the both of them would be fugitives.

In Legends, Luke could stop and restart his heart to avoid life scanners. Palpatine would make it pump, just like Vader moved himself in this.

in rogue one we see darth vader in his tank without his suit. This was the time when vader's suit's parts were rebuild/repaired/preplaced.

I really like how you added subtle animations to the comics. Like the blaster fire and stuff.
Vader can survive as long as the plot demands it.
Vader is somewhat reminiscent of Darth Sion in this sense. Darth Sion was so angry that he simply refused to die. He wasn't very powerful at all, but his anger kept his spirit bound to his body even though he was clinically dead, he used the force itself to keep his body working. But when Sion finally let go of his anger, he instantly died.

By the way, There is this possibility that I've thought about for some time already: what if Anakin had not been found by the jedi nor the sith? What if his life had gone on in Tatooine as a slave? I don't know if you have theorized about this already, since you produce A LOT of content and I haven't gotten around to watching all of your videos (and i'm too lazy to search through your videos right now, lol).
My guess is that he would eventually win a pod race and make enough money to buy his own freedom. In time he could become a smuggler that could even rival Han, while his affinitty to the force would cause his foresight and reflexes to develop more and more while the years go by.

Also, the prophecy kept Vader alive, along with his anger. The prophecy stated that Anakin would bring balance to the Force, and he did. However, like most prophecies it was misunderstood. Anakin had twins, male and female. For about 23 years he was a good person, for another 23 years he was evil. He helped destroy the Jedi order, and then he destroyed the Sith. Balance.

Anger is a secondary emotion you are either hurt or scared or both before you become angry. His story is truly heartbreaking for real.

I also think that one of the reasons he never just destroyed Luke when he met him the first, or any other time they fought is because he felt something. The force made him feel something. Then later on obviously he knew it was his son, and it made him conflicted.

SladePunch probably. N with the suit on during the death star explosion, he could be frozen in space. All they need 2 do is retrieve his body from space, where ever the fuck it is, and then put him in the carbonite. (I know its not correct spelling but its how it was spelled in Star Wars. So then, his body would thaw out if you crank the heat up just like Princess Leia did to save Han Solo from the carbonite. you do that, body’s golden. (Not literally) then IF Vader comes back, he could force choke Kylo Ren( FUCK YOU) then put him in the sarlacc pit.

If you mean his suit being physically rebuilt, then yes. It has been multiple times, and every month or so, he would have to get his suit maintained. Also, now we have new information where Vader completely ruins his suit and rebuilds it himself. He is, of course, in a Batca Tank at the time. ;) I hope that answered your question!

I think he could probably survive somewhat indefinitely... he wouldn't be much use for anything though, if he has to keep himself alive, and he couldn't move or do much.
I would have loved to seen a Darth Vader at his max with all the best cybernetics he could have gotten.

Dunno, it was implied having his mask cracked after the Tano fight caused his body severe distress. Details of what happened after the fight are murky because the next time we see him canonically is a few years later in Rogue One. Unless a comic or comics I missed covers that time period. Not saying the fight put him on the DL list that long. Though it is peculiar if he wasn't that badly injured why he didn't resume his pursuit of Ezra and company with added ferocity. Since Vader doesn't give up and only gets more *pissed off* if you manage to evade him. This was a weird, unanswered question of Rebels. Heh, would love to ask Filoni that at a panel.
That’s something I’ve always been wondering. How long was he left on Mustafar for? In the movie, it didn’t seem he was there for that long, but surely Palpatine would have needed to create his suit first. Unless he just left Vader in a bacta tank or something while he got it made...

So my guess is there probably isn’t a time limit. Yoda kept himself alive for so long useing the force. Although the dark side seems to require you to be more hateful and angry. It probably works on the same basis. As long as he feels like having a reason to live (like killing the person trying to kill him) and has the force. Nothing can stop him from point A to point B except time and distance.

He could make himself another Darth Sion, have a completely broken and rotten body that's solely animated by the force and his negative feelings. Darth Sion was unkillable, even an exploding spaceship and getting blown into space didn't keep him down. It was only when he accepted the futility of it that he was released. I really wonder what keeps Vader going, there's simply no ambition left for him. Even the whole "let's overthrow the emperor" bit he brings up in RotS and TESB seems to be a mere excuse.

How long can Vader survive without his suit? - The answer is... IT DEPENDS. What is the oxygen content (percentage) of the air on the planet or ship he is on? His lungs were heavily damaged on Mustafar, so they can't take in oxygen efficiently. So his suit has a built in oxygen concentrator to give the air he breathes a higher percentage of oxygen. If he's on a planet with a high O2 level atmosphere, then his suit doesn't work very hard. If he's in a low O2 atmosphere, then I assume it's working overtime to supply him with sufficient oxygen.
So, how long can Vader survive without his suit? Quite a while in an oxygen rich place... but probably only a matter of minutes in a low O2 region before he passes out and later dies.
Depends on what the definition of the parameters of the question are. If the suit is disabled, but intact, he can use the dark side to control the suit. If he's totally out of the suit, he can use the dark side but eventually will die.
Vader did discover how to keep someone from dying, himself.

his goal wasn't to kill Vader. If he had, sidious would have killed him, his family and everyone who had ever known him.
He wanted to make Vader submissive to him. He wanted Vader as a pawn, not dead. His plan was to show Vader "he was in control". He didn't know Vader would be able to use the force to use his body like a puppet and kill dude anyways.

i always thought of it in the way that without his suit, he would be able to sustain himself for as long as he can provide a bit of focus on it, for example if he tried to say, go to sleep outside of his chamber without his suit, he would lose focus and start dying, but that would wake him up of course.

Don't we already know the answer to this question? Wasn't his suit and respirator destroyed or disabled after he threw Darth Sidious into the Death Star's reactor? If that's so the my best guess is that it took him between 1 or 2 hours to die, if not less. At least that's how long I think it took for Luke to drag Vader's body to the hangar.
