Hi and thanks for your infos. I also have a 140 polished. Here in europe some folks said I must not take away too much material in the process. What do you think about that? Are there limits of how thin the aluskins can be to be airworthy? Thanks!
There are definitely limits as to how much material can be removed from a skin before it’s un-airworthy. The polishing process takes off such a minute amount of material, it’s really not much of a concern. I would recommend you work with your A&P/IA on this. I measured before and after to ensure the amount of material removed (which was basically nothing) didn’t exceed limits.
Check out part 9 of my video series. This was the start of the polishing process. Definitely NO sanding. That would take off too much material. Start with the brown or yellow rouge. Be careful around rivet heads. If you start to see the dot on the rivet head disappear, stop. These soft pads will easily go right up against the rivets.
Did you take any footage of the flap repairs? Very curious to see how that was done. Some friends and I have just made an offer on a 140 and hope to close in the next week or two.
Hi Eric. I have a lot of photos of the flap repair and how I completed it. I’m more than happy to share those with you. Feel free to private message me or send me an email address. As always, with a major repair like that, you will need to complete the proper paperwork (form 337 and logbook entry).
That’s my dream plane! It looks absolutely gorgeous! I’m following the progress from KC!
Thanks for watching and following the progress!
Looking good.
Awesome Nate! Good work!
Thanks!
Awsome!

Did you sand at all for polishing or straight to a higher grit polish compound like Nushine F9? Also how do you get tight around the rivet heads? Thx!
