Rene excellent, very clear and precise. Great exclamation of information. May I ask where you found how to do this or did you discovery it yourself through experimentation? Thank you! Lynn

your presentation was professional, smooth, easy to follow, and in formative. Nicely done! I am planning to convert my layout to DCC control and need to understand more about what I’m about to do. I heard you say “program track”. That must be a dedicated track just used for programming… any advice about this area of your layout will be appreciated… thank you… Kevin

      Hi Kevin
Thanks for your comments. A programming track is (almost) only used for programming the locomotives. A programming track can be a small section or a siding or in the yard. This track or section must be electrically independent of the layout or have two power sources, one connected to the layout that can be electrically cut off and then fed back in for programming. The easiest way to do this is to have the siding cut off from the main circuit and powered only for programming. For a while I was using a piece of rail temporarily placed on a road while programming.
What you need to take into consideration is that normally the programming track is only used when purchasing a new locomotive and once the programming is completed and satisfactory it is not changed. If your layout allows guests to run their own locomotive, it is important to check that this locomotive does not conflict with your own locomotives. Example: having the same call number.

@@renechab595 Rene, thanks for the feed back. Based on what you said I think I have the perfect siding, In my yard, that can be dedicated to be the program track. So… I will start preparing it with separate power and isolation connectors. Thanks again!
