  • Apollo High School 3rd Region Champions 1985. Starters on this team were Greg Baughn, Rex Chapman, Jeff Sanford, Kevin Hamilton, and Scott Kelly. Keith Vanderpool, Barry Bartlett, Anthony Leachman, Lawrence Chappell, and Keith Survant rounded out the squad. NOT appearing in this video is prep-phenom Kevin "JV' Vanderpool (Keith's younger brother), who following a severe index finger dislocation and stellar freshman season decided to call it a career and retire at age 15. The Eagles were coached by John Whitmer, Bob Mantooth, and Will Wyman

Hi! This is Madison with CBS Saturday Morning. We are doing a piece on Rex Chapman this week and came across your videos. Do you know the original source for this? Thanks!

Rex Chapman's J falls, but it's always off-balance. His body isn't erect, his feet aren't together, his arc isn't that consistent. He's making those shots purely on athletic ability.
His fundamentals and footwork are horrible.

Imagine hopping on a CZcams video of a small town Kentucky high school teams 1985 season commemorative video to shit on a high school kid’s footwork. Did was dropping 40 on a regular basis. Went on scholarship to UK and was an above average NBA player before injury. Maybe watch some Larry bird and Michael Jordan highlights and see how often they go straight up and shoot on balance. It’s almost never, pretty much all great scorers have the ability to hit off balance shots. It’s kind of what makes them so difficult to cover. Rex was athletic and a great shooter. Those are two very different things. To say he was just making his shots on pure athleticism is ignorant. People around him growing up can confirm the guy worked harder than anybody to be as good as he was.

@@matthewdickens1628yes. Jordan looked almost out of control his first years in the pro.
