I had a major surgery done in one of my legs to remove a tumor. After the surgery, I spent a week in the hospital and they gave me a pump with morphine for about three days and sent me home after with Vicodin. It was a prescription for 30 days, one per day. I did not finish the pills because I was feeling better and did not have much pain any more. So of the 30 days I took about 18 or 20 days of Vicodin. The first thing you realize is that you are completely constipated by the medication, that by itself is awful. Then, after stopping the pills, I was having nightmares, tremors, I would wake up drenched in sweat like if I had been jogging two hours. So basically I was having withdrawal symptoms after roughly 3 weeks. That medication is likely one of the worst I’ve taken. So to hear someone say he was taking that many Vicodins per day is absolutely nuts.

It is crazy, but I've heard similar stories from other athletes, pro wrestlers in particular, that the body quickly builds a tolerance to these drugs to the point that it might take 40 pills a day to get the same high that the first pill gave them on day 1. I'm not against Big Pharma per say, there are legit needs, but it is a billion dollar racket too.

1988. Market Square Arena. Summer. Larry Bird held a charity basketball game called "Larry's Game." Rex Chapman was walking around on the floor well ahead of the game. I had a media credential and as he walked toward me, I said "Hey Rex. Good to see you. Would you mind signing..." I didn't get the rest out. He sneered and hurled a derogatory comment at me. Here it is 36 years later and that's my first and lasting impression of Rex Chapman. Lesson? Just be nice to people.

You are 100% right! I remember, as a teenager, receiving what seemed like an icy reception from Althea Gibson in Princeton, NJ, when I politely requested her autograph, which she gave. However, we don't know what crap, trauma, or crisis people have encountered within a few minutes or a few hours or days before our paths cross. Being in a horrible "head or heart-space" never makes rudeness acceptable, but realizing that people's different temperaments and life experiences will have them--and us--make poor choices sometimes when interacting with others provides a means of extending grace and forgiveness that we would want to receive when we misstep.

His worth to the school was only a part of it and most school athletics departments struggle financially. His fame helped the school. I agree athletes should be allowed to unionize if they want to.

He checked ALL the boxes to not use oxy including family history. And the doctor simply refused to give him a different med. She set him up-to fail. It's a shame... hopefully me showing him this video will help him listen to me and not this shaky doctor.

He tells a funny story about going everywhere with Del Curry and Mugsy Bogues because they all lived in the same apartment complex in Charlotte. Del always drove with Mugsy riding shotgun and Rex in the back seat because he was a rookie. The punchline is - little did we know that the best player of us all was riding next to me - one year old Steph Curry in his car seat.
