  • DON'T GET A MANUAL CAM CHAIN TENSIONER FOR YOUR 06+ R6! Here is why I think that: there is an oil line that feeds directly to the cam chain tensioner and does two important things. One: it builds pressure inside of the automatic CCT so as you increase RPMs and oil pressure it causes the CCT to extend a bit and put more pressure on the cam chain as you rev the bike higher, I think this is vital for peak performance that Yamaha tuned and designed the bike to do. Two: it allows oil to leak onto the cam chain guide and onto the cam chain further lubricating it. A manual cam chain tensioner blocks this oil port off and allows neither to happen! It is almost like a form of variable cam timing. At lower RPMs the cam chain tensioner is looser and allows for a bit more torque, at higher RPMs it allows for advanced timing as it is revving extremely fast (just as an example I am not sure that is how it exactly works). If your cam chain rattles on startup replace with a new Yamaha one, Be sure not to jump timing when you take out the old CCT, I have had this happen to me before, you must put some pressure on the cam chain when you take out the old CCT otherwise I think the bike will jump timing.

Still helpful even though the video is 2 years old. Just had to adjust my valves at 19k on my 2020 R6 even though owner's manual said it would need to be done at 26,600. Thanks for the video.

(Knock-knock-knock) its Yamaha open up we hear you were doing a valve adjustment hahaha nah that was an epic clip you got strate back to it barely lost any time that was massive, my old man mentioned it costs about a grand to get a shop todo this with the shims an tolerance etc but I dont think i would trust a shop not attaching any of the paint work or fairing not to mention damaging any parts so I'm defo loving this content man keep it up I'm gonna bringe all you content you have up tomorrow when I wake up lol this was awesome advice glad to see somebodys out their trying to help out in that regard cheers man

Hey bro cool video. I wanted to know because i did valve adjustment like 43k km. Now on 46k i did oil and filter change. I have the same issue as soon as i did oil change. It idles but in stationary so it stays like 1200 than it drops to 1000 but in a bit and goes back up. What to do at this point because i dont know.

How much do you turn the crank for checking clearance on cylinders #2 #3 & #4??

I've adjusted valves so many times on my 05 R1, 09R1 and 07 R6. The concept is the same but Yamaha definitely does it differently with each bike. Something that I've always found unclear with my 07 R6 is right underneath the horizontal line on the Crank Sprocket is a T mark. When setting TDC I can never remember if I should be lining up the horizontal line with the marks on the frame or if I should be lining up the T with the mark on the frame. Every time I come back to adjust the valves on my R6 I'm like wait.... which one did I use last time? I think I use the horizontal line not the "T". Does anyone know what that T mark on the Pickup Rotor? It doesn't exist on any of my other Yamaha Pickup Rotors so I've never been sure what its purpose is.

I am having the same issue w idle and pulling in the clutch- the bike will die on me. It is cold outside. I have a 2000 Yamaha R6, you think this would fix the issue for me?

I’m looking at buying an 07 R6 with 7,000 miles. The guy says it’ll start but shuts off. He thinks it’s the fuel cutoff relay. He said he can hear it click and shut off. But sounds to me like if the valves were out it wouldn’t start at all. I’d appreciate any help.

    Heyy, Thanks for this video!
My ‘14 R6 is having issue when it’s completely warmed up it starts rough idling between 1-2.5k rpm. This is the second time it’s happened. Once before I got the fuel injectors cleaned and throttle body synced, changed all the ignition coils and spark plugs worked fine for like 5k km’s. However it’s started to rough idle again. Didn’t clean/change the fuel pump at all.
Do you think it’s because of the bad fuel pump?
I am genuinely fed up with Yamaha

I’m having somewhat the same problem. Bike turns on but the idle sound is very off. It’s very hard to take off in the first gear like no matter how much throttle I give it the bike just jerks/stalls and dies. I asked in an R6 forum and everyone pointed to bad spark plugs or coils. What do you think? (08 R6 with 18k miles)

hey, I’m looking at a 2016 r6 w/ a power commander and other stuff for $7k, it has 15k miles and hasn’t been rode in 3 months..would this be a good buy or do you think it has issues? Thanks!

My 2014 has rattling sounds similar to what you're saying. I haven't been able to pin point where it's coming from. It only rattles for a few seconds in 1st gear only in very low rpms around 1000-1500. Anything over 2k rpm the bike runs strong and no rattling. Do you think it could be the same cam chain tensioner issue??
