It's quite strange, but for 5 or 6 years I lived with rosacea without even thinking and caring too much, had not a single anti-rosacea product, didn't even use a moisturizer, and it was totally okay and never went out of control. Actually, the only summer when it got better was 3 years ago, the one that I spent sunbathing. This year I suddenly remembered my diagnosis, started reading, watching videos, buying special products. And this is when it got worse. So caring too much and freaking out is what triggers it for me. And stuffy spaces.

Have you tried any strong tetracycline antibiotics, Laser treatments like Candela V-Beam and/or Rosadyn capsules? Also wear high SPF sunscreen to protect your skin! Ivermectin cream is also reputed to work pretty well!

99 % of moisturizers make is worse for me. Also 100% of serums unfortunately. Washing with cleanser make my skin quite dry so I have to skip couple of days a week. If I do it 0 times and don't exfoliate it was also get worse. It is a very fine line to do it right and not worsen it

When I got extremely stomach sick a few years ago I started getting flare ups .when I started avoiding spicy food , coffee, powder foundation and drying makeup all cause flare ups for me . Green tea face wash , lavender hydrosol and lots of moisture helps so much . Thanks for all your compassion. 💚

That's my experience as well and most just want to prescribe a quick temporary fix rather than get to the root cause of the symptoms. It's so frustrating. There are a lot of bad dermatologists out there. One I went to about 15 years ago scarred me for life (unrelated to Rosacea). I am now very leary of visiting any Derm or Doctor.
Question: What do you call a doctor that graduated last (place) in their class?
      "Doctor"

Stress brought my rosacea into play...it's mild but still...I have a flare immediately after having a major stressful day or hiccup. Also...just learned that gluten and dairy are big ones for me. I'm nearly vegetarian so all these foods in the list below I eat daily. But by doing a major gluten dairy fast and just cutting back or limiting the other foods...I saw a huge difference. I really feel like the gut is THE major player in my rosacea. Thanks for this!

So now I pour the bottle into a decanter and add some sulphite removing drops (I ordered them online) and I don’t flush! I used to blush all the time and my friends would always tease me for it which would make the blushing worse. I never realised it could have been rosacea. Thank you for your tips. They do work and some of them I learned over the years with the episodes of pustules acne like breakouts. Yes I had to use the topic medication when it was got really pronounced those acne like bumps. The adjustment in diet was another factor beside changing detergents and skin routine.
I learned to managed the rosacea by modifying my diet when I had big breakouts of acne like bumps. It happened thrice in the last twenty years and when I switched diet to a higher content of vegetables in all my three meals a day for several months. The flares went away and the intensity of redness is very light. I have persistant light pink skin tip of nose and on a scar on one cheek, but with light Cc cream it is covered.
I noticed for me the bad flares were also in response to high amounts consumption of cow milk, cheese besides the spicy, cinnamon and tomatoes in diet. When the flares calmed down and I had no more acne like bumps, I was able to re introduce all those food irritants. I do eat the spicy foods, cinnamon, tomatoes base meals and dairy, but not in big amounts and not as frequently. So it is possible to enjoy those foods, but not on high amounts and daily basis.
I had to do trial and error with skin face cleansers, moisturizers and sunscreens. I live up north in Montreal and some winter days can be very dry cold outside and it’s harsh coming to indoors warm place with heater. It was an easy trigger for me the stress environment.
Regarding skin routine I have to adjust constantly switching between cold winters higher moisturizing routine, to hot summers lighter moisturizer routine and to something in between for the fall and spring seasons.
So far when I need more moisturizer in dry winter days the nights I finish routine with an oil or Aquaphor healing ointment or petroleum. For the warmer weather like summer the CeraVe moisturizer at night works well or rosacea La Roche Posay serum AR or the Bioderma rosacea moisturizer. My new favorite for morning application is the Cetaphil moisturizer SPF50. It is light and not thick. I also use the La Roche Posay CC creme SPF30, helps cover some of the redness in warmer seasons and not wear heavy makeup coverage. I did try the cerave light moisturizer SPF30 and like it, but my dermatologist said to use higher SPF. Why do we need a higher of SPF30?
For sunny summer days when I spend long hours outside almost all the time I use these big hats to cover face.

    1. can we buy hyaluronic acid powder and make our own jelly with it as it will be a lot more cost effective .
    2. can i use Liquorice Root extract and powder on my face to reduce pigmentation or general brightness? are they safe to use on their own with my moisturiser?
if you can kindly mention these topics in your video , i will be extremely greatful !! Many thanks in advance and keep up the good work!
    Happy thanks giving in advance!

I definitely notice that my skin becomes drier and more flushed when I drink coffee. I am taking kefir and fermented taramind clay for probiotics - live ones are so much more effective than capsules. Raw milk and raw cheese and raw butter are full of live enzymes which help. Of course pasteurised, homogenised, hormone filled junk sold in supermarkets will do more harm than good.
My rosacea flare ups are mainly caused by products, which is strange. I have never noticed a problem with alcohol. The worst offender being Vitamin C serums / creams. The BEST product I have ever found is Osmosis Skincare Rescue - I could not live without it. Expensive but worth every penny - I no longer have the underlying redness thanks to Rescue.

This information was very helpful to me! I found once I retired my rosacea calmed down significantly. Stress really made it blossom. Winter is a bad time. Going into a cold, windy, snowy day will reek havoc for me, so I try to cover up with a scarf. Aren't you glad you are in southern climbs! Thank you!

Thank you so much for this video Dr Dray. I'm not able to have wine, spicy foods of any kind and tomatoes. Yes, chocolate too. 😞 Keeping a log was what helped me years ago. Honestly these foods are not worth a flare, so I just keep away from them. ☺

This was very helpful! I'm going to Thailand this month and my Rosecea always flares when going to hot humid countries. I'm bringing my It Cosmetics CCM cream, the founder created the line for sensitive skin and Rosecea and it has spf 50. Any skin care tips for extra long plane rides, I'm sure lots of other people will be flying this holiday season? My skin always gets out of control on long plane rides, this one I think the longest single flight is 12 hours and a couple shorter flights. I do have a pro tip, lysol wipe everything you come in contact with; the seat, controls, hand rest, head rest, the media screen, the air vent, everything and hand sanitizer periodically.

Thank you so much for this! I have Rosacea for 7 years now since teenage, but I had never heard of Cinnemaldehyde! Does Turmeric (Curcuma) contain cinnemaldehyde?
Also, why could yogurt trigger Rosacea, and does any yogurt apply for this? Even if dairy-free?

Excellent information, as usual. I’ve recently found a great Dermatologist....together the both of you are helping to demystify Rosacea. I’ve been a sufferer for at least 10 years and am so happy to have answers and solutions, as opposed to you just have sensitive skin....deal with it.
Being born and raised in the Upper Midwest, my diet and environment are riddled with triggers. I’m so upset that Soolantra is so blasted expensive, and that there aren’t generic alternatives. My Derm gave me several samples, and it made a dramatic change in my overall complexion. My next step is to start a detailed journal. I’m willing to make some changes, but I won’t sacrifice the world. There has to be some sort of middle ground.
Rambling.....thanks again for the excellent information.

This video was great! Is there a group of foods that would explain why soy sauce and beer/wine are my biggest triggers? I imagine it has something to do with the aging/fermentation process but I can't pinpoint the exact ingredient in these foods that leads to flareups. Any insight is appreciated! Thank you.

The list is absolutely true and I react to all those on the list. It's a bit difficult to stay away from all of them, but as long as I use azelaic acid to stop pustules, I'm usually not too red in the summer. If I have small quantities of chocolate, I don't flare if I don't have much of the other items. Winter is difficult. I end up eating a higher protein diet in the form of meat or fish. I'd like to have less meat, but most beans, grains, nuts, and soy are off the table. Almonds are ok. Any diet ideas to get protein but not so much meat?

Most of those foods listed are high in something called "amines." Eggplants, tomatoes, bananas, cheese, citrus .... Some people have sensitivity to amines, so I wonder if the amines are somehow linked to rosacea?
