Hell I’d go even if I knew it was only for maybe two studio albums in two global tours. It’ll be better money than staying with another band that might get 1 million hits on Spotify that they’ll never see a dollar for with an album that sells less than 5000 copies that after you split it up between four or five band members you might as well just quit. I’d take it because I know I could make maybe six figures over the next three or four years however, long I would be in the band.

A year before he was announced as the new slipknot drummer I joined a prominent indie band based in LA. While trying to find the office at a downtown studio space we utilized I met Jay in the elevator. He walked me to the office. I noticed him practicing his paradiddles and rhythms with his fingers on his leg. I asked if he was a percussionist, he laughed and said he tries. Lol.
He walked me to the office and introduced me to the building management and then told me to come by his room if I ever wanted to hang because he’s always there.
I’d seen him a couple nights a week usually outside the front of the building. We’d exchange words and then I’d go in to prep for rehearsal. Never putting together who he was or what “tours” he was prepping for. One day he mentioned having to dial in a 32 song set and being expected to show up for a string of dates and play without full band rehearsal. I thought coverband, it was Bruce Springsteen dates filling for his father. Lol.
I figured out who he was and that he was slipknots new drummer by putting together I couple pieces of info in a split second. Someone told me Ross Robinson who I have met and recorded with might be doing the new slipknot record. A couple weeks later, I spot Ross outside the building Jay and I had our space with. He’s with Jay and a few other guys. One of which was slipknots new bassist who I met at a birthday party in LA a month before.
Ross and I talk for a minute. Make plans to touch base and grab food. I go up stairs and start prepping for my night and it hits me being that I had heard the rumors Max Weinbergs son may be the knot drummer. I look up pictures of “Jay Weinberg” and there he is. “J” the nice, humble dude who first helped me find an office and always exchanged nice words.
Next time I saw him we had much more to talk about. We knew a lot of the same people. And he had also been a big fan of and done a drum cover of my old tech death metal band but never posted it.
Always a nice guy. He told me a few days before he purposed to his then gf. He was nervous. We never hung out socially, but he was always nice and always said hello, even if one of us was on the phone or in a hurry.
I should taken up his offer to hang and jam in his space. Unfortunately the timing was never right.
We’ve both since moved in from that building. I wish him well in whatever he does next. Seems like a very pleasant guy.

As someone who’s been listening to this band for nearly 25 years the way they conduct business is really appalling. So glad that Tank pointed how the band is basically run by Corey and Shawn along with the fact they’re now a legacy act. The only thing you know about the inner workings of the band is what people bad mouthing after they’ve been kicked out. Of course others in the band make more money, Clown does the business stuff and Cory is alway the one being interviewed and the face of the band. Chris even said he didn’t care about anything other than playing live, so someone else has to do the business work and they get more money. Very simple really. The dudes an idiot, lost his friends and the best job over greed! All he had to do was turn up and play, everything else was sorted and he got paid well for it. Everyone knows clown has run the band as a business from day one, he had it all mapped out and put the work in off stage to make it happen and made them all rich. Nothing against Simon, I'm sure he's a great drummer, but it would look terrible to kick out a beloved drummer just to replace him with Clown's son. I'd love to see Slipknot go on for another 20 years with their kids taking over the band, but that needs to happen naturally, not like this.

I have a theory: they are not going to release any really new albums (maybe except this secret album from 2008 but it's done already ) so they don't need a drummer who they have to pay more royalties for new songs. They just need a touring drummer and that's it. They are going to tour maybe 5-8 years and save a lot of money.

Jay won me over immediately. He's a killer drummer and any band would be lucky to have him. I don't think Jay is the issue here, 9 years is a long ass time and more than long enough iron out issues or get rid of him. Given how much turmoil the band is going through, there's only certain places to lay blame on. Corey has hinted at not touring within the next 5 years, I think this band is dying (I mean it's been a long time) and the older members might not be dealing with that in the best way. Ego and the fear of irrelevance are a bad mix too.

There are very few original members left, and people seem to be leaving or getting fired left and right. They are so cryptic about everything, and it's all starting to wear off.

Jay’s statement: I sometimes wonder what it would be like to pay a visit to my wide-eyed, 10-year-old self - falling head over heels in love with a new and exciting sound and culture - and tell him all about the last 10 years.
Even on the hardest days, I'd like to think he'd be stoked about the adventure that was in store for him.
I was heartbroken and blindsided to receive the phone call that I did on the morning of November 5th; the news of which, most of you learned shortly after.
However, I've been overwhelmed by - and truly grateful for - the outpouring of love and support I've received from this incredible community I consider to be my creative and artistic home.
This is not the ending to the journey l'd dreamt of, and committed myself to seeing through - not by a long shot. But, despite the confusion and sadness, there is something that's provided an equal amount of comfort.
For many of you reading this: 10 years ago, we weren't yet acquainted. And now, we are. For that, I'm thankful in ways I'll never be able to fully express.
I love playing the drums. I'll always love playing the drums. I'll always have a passion for music, art, and creative expression. Nothing will ever change that.
I don't know how, and I don't know when, but I look forward to creating loud, passionate, and heartfelt music that we enjoy together again. Until then, please know it's been the joy of a lifetime to spend the last 10 years with you, sharing in our love for this special corner of the music and art world.
This isn't the end, and I'm thrilled to discover what the future has in store for us.
    Thank you.

I wouldn’t be surprised if both Griffin and Simon end up in Slipknot. I just saw Vended open for Bullet like 10 days ago and Griffin sounds scarily similar to Corey during the Iowa era. Not to mention Griffin’s stage presence, crowd control, and the things he says to get the crowd going are literally the same things Corey says on stage. It’s clear that not only does he look up to his dad, but he’s studied him as a performer. If you go and watch that 09 Download performance, Griffin literally copy/pastes everything Corey does throughout the set (which is not a bad thing, at the end of the day it’s literally Corey’s son we’re talking about).
On the other hand, Simon is a great drummer and the kid’s got the energy. It’s my second time seeing them (I saw them in The Fall of Ideals 10yr Annie tour) and they’ve gotten insanely better since. My only thing is: Vended’s music style is very different from Slipknot’s style so if he transitions into that role, he’ll have to adapt to how fast Slipknot’s drumming can get.

My vote for the next drummer would be Kerim Krimh Lechner. He is still in Septicflesh, but he would be an awesome choice. The fact that he wasn’t picked the first time could’ve just meant that they had already made the choice before Joey’s departure was even announced. EES just put out a video this morning saying he is putting his own band together and will put out a video soon.

Imagine being so talented as a drummer that El Seperano gives you a recommendation?! Your pretty much the final boss 😂

“Habits and lifestyle” typically means in the music business - addictions. May not be the case here - but a massive band like Slipknot in the music business and touring is a VERY high stress job. Fun but very stressful behind the scenes. Just my opinion only.

Slipknot is going to become an entity of interchangeable parts. Corey has said in the past the band is bigger than the members. Eventually Corey’s son will be brought in to sing and Clowns son will be the new drummer from Vended

It should be remembered that Slipknot is controlled by Corey and Clown, everyone are just employees to be fired on a whim

When it first came out I was way more upset, but now I have come to assume they are making the decision they want to make and I will respect their decision. With that being said, somehow I feel like a parent in this situation. I am not upset or mad, I'm just so disappointed, replacing Joey was an impossible task and Jay filled those shoes and then some, I just dont get it.

As of right now, I think my personal picks that could theoretically happen are Krimh, Jon Rice, and Eloy.
    Possibly Alex Rudinger, maybe 66Samus.
Wishful thinking: Gene Hoglan or Chris Adler lol

Personally having met him, and having multiple friends that met him he seems to be a very nice person. That being said he could be an absolute nightmare to work with.

He, yeah. Working with someone and being with someone is a different camp altogether. Which isn't a bad thing, but when things need to be done it can be hell on wheels going against them if they want to do it differently.

Max Portnoy would be a sick fit but I'd hate to see the end of Tallah because of it.

Why would tallah have to end? Hasn't he been touring with Code Orange primarily anyway?

@@castlecarousel I just love Tallah to bits and would hate to see anything dampen that project. You're right that it wouldn't necessarily have to end and yes he's been touring with Code Orange anyways but yeah.. just worrying out loud I guess.
