Lyrics
I got drunk and fell asleep atop the sheets but luckily i left the heater on.
And in my dreams i wrote the best song that i've ever written...can't remember how it goes.
I stayed drunk and fell awake and i was cycling on a plane and far away i heard you say you liked me.
We drifted to a party -- cool. The people went to arty school. They made their paints by mixing acid wash and lemonade
In my brain I re-arrange the letters on the page to spell your name
I found an ezra pound and made a bet that if i found a cigarette i'd drop it all and marry you.
Just then a song comes on: "you can't always get what you want" -- the rolling stones, oh woe is we, the irony!
The stones became the moss and once all inhibitions lost, the hipsters made a mission to the farm.
We drove by tractor there, the yellow straw replaced our hair, we laced the dairy river with the cream of sweet vermouth.
In my brain I re-arrange the letters on the page to spell your name
You said "we only live once" so we touched a little tongue, and instantly i wanted to...
I lost my train of thought and jumped aboard the Epping as the doors were slowly closing on the world.
I touched on and off and rubbed my arm up against yours and still the inspector inspected me.
The lady in the roof was living proof that nothing really ever is exactly as it seems.
In my brain I re-arrange the letters on the page to spell your name
We caught the river boat downstream and ended up beside a team of angry footballers.
I fed the ducks some krill then we were sucked against our will into the welcome doors of the casino.
We drank green margaritas, danced with sweet senoritas, and we all went home as winners of a kind.
You said "i guarantee we'll have more fun, drink till the moon becomes the sun, and in the taxi home i'll sing you a triffids song!"
In my brain I re-arrange the letters on the page to spell your name - Hudba
i could listen to this song on repeat till i die
Zactly
"Edzachary"
The aussie accent makes this way better!
Coming from an absolute lover and diehard metal fan across all metal genres, I cannot express my love enough for Courtney Barnett and her songs. She is phenomenal and have rater her since I heard her on Radio 1 about 11 years ago.
She is shit hot 🔥
Funny how us metal fans like this music, l would love to hear more of her music here in the UK. This proper rock n roll music, great lyrics, and relevent more and more to what's happening in England.
just discovered her and woah i had been missing out of a lot
I just discovered her... 3 years later. Imagine how I feel XD
Hanns amen, I discovered her just NOW
I’d pay $1000 just to experience discovering her again.. it was legendary
Discovered: 04.06.2019.... Late, but not to late!
me too
Courtney Barnett rocks my world. Aussie accents don't appear enough in our Aussie music. Go hard little Barney.
Courtney Barnett is hands-down the best lyricist of my generation.
kendrick lamar
Courtney Barnett is hands-down the second best lyricist of my generation.
Jose Romero
hahaha
Sadie Dupuis? Speedy Ortiz and Sad13
Purity Ring?
I rolled a joint in 3 minutes and 39 seconds exactly! Good shit! Heard Courtney Barnett on NPR today.
The Triffids, now there was a great Australian band. She gets my tick of approval just for mentioning them.
I usually listen to metal and I really enjoy this song. Something about the indifference in her voice makes me want more.
I love seeing Jen Cloher cameos.
Jack Bridges i do too haha even funnier and cute since they're engaged!
Shes so beautiful inside and out, Half her songs make me cry my eyes out its so good
I think Courtney is totally putting us on. She's carefully cultivated this image of a sad sack, but I'm not fooled. I think she's having a total blast.
Avante Gardener, my fav by her. She's brilliant.
I sure hope this band becomes huge because not only does this rock but it blows away about 99.9% of the lamestream crap around today.
why would you wish that? ruin a perfectly good thing, the album already received praise, are grammy nominations good? shes doing just fine
Because I'm not a music snob who thinks success = becoming crap. I grew up in the New wave era and too many bands never got the righteous due or made any money. I mean, I'm all for old fart Rezillos and Buzzcocks touring and making money now and, if that's your thing to go see them, good on ya....not for me. I always want to find THE NOW.
As far as Grammy nominations, off my radar since forever. Totally irrelevant to me and I have no clue who wins or loses ever. Never watch the show. Not my type of music at all. Never has been.
Sorry, man, but I don't follow music like I did as a New Wave youth when it was read about them in Trouser Press or NME as a start as who could ever hear this stuff (yeah, I'm talking even pre-college radio when FM radio played zip in our taste lines) so I stumble on things late. Saw Courtney Barnett on SNL just a few months ago and only then discovered them so shoot me.
She may be doing fine but the ENTIRE music scene these days is in a sad state really. Sorry, man, I'd rather see CB get HUGE than have to hear about unlistenable lamestream pap.
+Johnny Canucklehead I'm too lazy to articulate a disagreement so I'm just going to say this
screw you!
Johnny Canucklehead I don't think they deserve to go mainstream. There music has it's appeal, but the level of hipster bullshit is too high. A lot of the lyrics are just ironic references to daily events.
I don;t think they have to go mainstream but don't take this the wrong way but there's a difference between "their" success and going "there." I have no problem with the lyrics. I find them clever. She certainly does not seem hipster at all. Reminds me of a certain type of Aussie woman you'd meet throughout traveling in Asia.
Anyway, I like the guitar sound and the laconic almost spoken vocals.
I first heard this song 3 years ago over the radio as I was heading to work, And the music stuck with me the whole day and when I got home I had to look up this artist. This song is still one of my favorites songs to this day.
Can't belive how this song (piece of art) has so few visits.........
If you get the chance to see her live, go! I just saw her in Raleigh and she was incredible.
Seen her seven times now! San Diego, Mexico City, San Diego, San Diego, Pioneertown, San Luis Obispo, Sonoma
love her voice
I went out to lunch today and this song was playing at the restaurant. The words + her voice instantly made me google it and now I've watched this video like 20 times!
Found this through BBC Radio6 in the UK. Love it. Dylan like stream of consciousness lyrics. And on top of great music. My best recent find.
Idiot. Stream of consciousness isn't even Dylan. This is poor Nirvana cover band plus lyrical bullshit. The back of a bleach bottle has more poetry.
Nick Moranis a bit harsh. Let us simpletons express our liking of the artist of our choice. Renny I dig her music too.👍
@@nickmoranis2865 here to hate on a 6 year old comment. Subterranean Homesick Blues is very stream of consciousness, as were the Beat poets that influenced Dylan in the East Village.
And a lot of Kurt Cobain's lyrics are based around simplistic but effective wordplay. Going after someone else's lyrical sophistication while hyping up Nirvana is pretty wild stuff.
Catchy. Love it. Can't stop singing it.
The chorus popped into my head as I was falling asleep last night. Don't think I'd heard it more than once before that...
Love this song
This girl is cool! I love all her stuff. New and exciting, cant wait to hear more.
I have to listen to this again and again and again
The first song I heard from her
Me too! Saw her perform it live on TV and hunks here I am!
Me to the first time i heard her music was on the mtv channel and it was this song
Me too, went a bit on a google tour and saw that she played near me in the netherlands 2 years ago :/ hope she comes back so i can see her!
Tame Impala and Courtney Barnett are the best australian music.
