  • Today we are taking a look at how the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 performs in a variety of circumstances to see if the now $880 price tag is worth it. Do you think it does well for the relatively low price?

    Interesting to see the softness around bright parts. I've had this lens since it came out and I don't believe I've ever seen anything like this in my photos and it's my most used lens. I'm using it on a Sony A9 so it's not the high megapixel sensor like the A7r3. I do have an A7r3 but I haven't used this lens with that camera yet. My lens is insanely sharp and has great contrast.

    • @ChristopherBurress
      @ChristopherBurress  Před 5 lety

      I would be interested to see if there is anything noticeable when you put it on your a7r3 and shoot some similarly bright stuff.

    I've seen quite a few reviews of this lens, but this is the first time I've heard about this sharpness issue on the long end. Could you be more specific on when the problem starts? As in which apertures, at >65mm or >70mm and at which distances for the target? Also, did you focus manually for the sharpness tests? Because otherwise the AF might be a factor in this. IBIS could be too if you're shooting those handheld.
    Unrelated: Some bigger titles with the exposure info when showing images in Lightroom would be great. Watching on my phone it's quite difficult to see the info on your display, so having to rely on you saying them makes in a little confusing.
    Overall though, great review! I bet your channel will grow if you keep at it ✌

    • @ChristopherBurress
      @ChristopherBurress  Před 5 lety

      This was the a7iii, no picture profile, and 1080p. I got my lighting and exposure right which helps tremendously.

      @adamrivera6997 Před 5 lety

      @@ChristopherBurress Why 1080p if I may ask? I know size files can be an issue but I've heard that 1080p in sony is a little soft. Your video looks amazing though

    • @ChristopherBurress
      @ChristopherBurress  Před 5 lety

      It is a smidge soft, especially when i'm used to shooting in 4k. It's kind of experimental, I'm trying to focus more on making better video instead of making high resolution ones lol. So this is just to help cut down on some post production headaches which gives me more time to focus on other things.

    • @OlaviMurto
      @OlaviMurto Před 5 lety

      @@ChristopherBurress I saw comments online regarding this, and did some tests last summer, comparing A7III 1080p vs 4K downscaled in premiere and an upload to youtube at 4K but viewing at 1080p. The latter was the sharpest and shooting 1080p in camera is WAY softer. Like way softer than should be expected. There's similar tests by other people on CZcams as well, check 'em out.
      Since most mid range computers tend to struggle to play back 4K in Premiere with some effects or Lumetri on other layers, I suggest you make 720p proxies inside Premiere if you are having issues. Makes editing so much smoother. If you´re not familiar on how to do it:
      1. Select all the clips inside premiere in that media bin
      2. Right click -> proxies -> create proxies
      3. Make your proxy settings, make sure to put them in the correct folder inside raw footage
      4. Click OK and let media encoder do it's thing. (yeah and install media encoder if you haven't)
      Might take a while depending on how good your GPU is, so do something else while they render.

    • @ChristopherBurress
      @ChristopherBurress  Před 5 lety

      The only reason that I don't like doing this is that you sit down to start editing and then have to wait 20-30 min to create proxies. My videos aren't overly long or complex so all the time I would save with smoother editing is wasted by the conversion and I'm at a net-zero savings. Also it's core count/clock speed that helps that encoding process.

    • @ChristopherBurress
      @ChristopherBurress  Před 5 lety

      I guess it's possible to get a dud. But more often than not it's a non issue in photos. None of the snow pics with my dog that day had any problems. It seems much less exaggerated on the A7iii
