Girl once again has released Pop-secret as an answer to the growing number of board companies offering reinforced boards with new technology; brands, such as Powell Peralta and Santa Cruz, have recently presented upgraded decks with fibreglass layers. The graphic is simple, with one shape available; we skated and tested the Andrew Brophy pro model.
Pop secret, however, uses a fibreglass sheet only on the top, with the remaining ply being made out traditional maple; as you'll see, this design is slightly heavier and thicker than it's competitors, but makes up for this with great shape, and springy pop.
After skating this deck, Levi noted that the fibreglass top ply kept the top of the board intact, preventing the board from splintering at the ends. - Sport
Got a Sean Malto Pop Secret deck for Christmas in 2012. Absolutely loved it, and made me fall in love with 8.12 size boards.
I gotta say, this guy... he's grown on me.

Seeing what you do at 200 lbs really boosts my confidence towards what I'll be able to do as I progress. Only 180 but still I feel bigger than most skaters I see

Love the pop secret tech. They were actually inspired and designed specifically for those skaters with ankle injuries and stuff, helping them to pop much easier.
For VX decks, the top ply and the 2nd bottom ply is using the carbon fibre. Bottom ply is still maple veneer

Yea, it's weird they're back like 10 years later. I reached out to see if they're the same as before or if stuff has changed, but haven't heard back from Girl yet. It might be back cause 10 years ago people were a lot more hesitant to "skateboard technology".

best board i ever rode...im 48 ...skating since 15....flip boards with p2....light..super pop.
I loved the P2 boards. I think they were a little ahead of their time with them. We could barely sell those boards and they were soooo good.

I’m getting a Sean malto pop Secret deck . For girl normal girl decks have amazing pop, I am excited to see how much pop all this one have

These boards are great. Rode mine hard for a few weeks with 0 chips. Lots of pop that sticks around. Switched over to a regular board and it chipped out in a few sessions.

Been thinking about trying girl again, all through high school it was kind of my go to brand, but lately I’ve been with disorder and Zero, cause both brands have shorter and mellower tails, which helps me personally get a nice chill pop with little effort, and both brands have a nice big nose, I’m curious to try this pop secret in the G052 shape cause that’s Maltos shape and he says that shape also helped him get more pop after his ankle surgery

@@danielchigurh2235 that's what I'm saying I'm 30 and when I was maybe 15 a neighborhood kid got a lib tech and that thing was a beast. Had like a full solid coat of the plastic on both sides of the board and in the middle that was so thick it was insane. It board slid like you couldn't imagine haha

How is the concave on this pop secret compared to the concave on the flight deck?
And 2and is it as durable as the flight deck? I have a tendency of breaking boards fast and want a new deck and have already had the flight and wanna get something diffrent cause of the mellow concave isn't my thing but need to make sure the next board I buy can hold up and not snap like the flight.

2:55 idk about the vx but on the flight deck it’s got maple on the bottom with thin layers or carbon fiber in between each ply with a thick layer of carbon as the top ply. So no, your not sliding on carbon fiber
flight decks are five layers of maple and 2 layers of carbon fibre,one layer carbon fibre layer on top and one second from the bottom so the bottom layer is maple

.... Flight decks have a top ply and a mid-ply.. not the bottom. And its on the sides of the tails where the flight boards chip like crazy, and reveal the fiberglass splinters.. that will probably happen with this deck too

I would like to skate high tech boards, but they are very different to find in Finland. In 2016 I has a Flip P2 technology board, which was easily the best board I've ever had. Too bad I can't find any P2 boards nowdays and not even those Almost carbon fiber boards. I hope these Girl boards make themselves to Finland.
Flip P2 board was the best board I skated ever. Then I skated the Powell flight deck and skated it for 1 full year.

Has this design been out for a while? I remember about 4 years ago I was at waxhaw skatepark and I traded some trucks with a guy that was skating there and he had this board in his trunk. It was a girl board that looked like the top ply had some sort of carbon fiber on it. Never seen it before on a girl until very recently

Out of the 3 brds which one has the “mellowest” concave?
Probably the Flight deck, as those are pretty 'medium' to mellow concave decks. I like the more mellow stuff though. And it still flips like crazy if you get used to them anyway. It's a pretty regular shape all around, unless you go for the pointier nose and tail shape which is a bit different, but still medium to mellow concave.

You buy a girl skateboard then you're supporting China. I'll stick to skateboards made in the US why? I don't like the thought of knowing that my skateboard which is made out of wood is sitting on a boat for months in the water, salt water. I guess you probably never even thought about that

No shit. The technology boards wear down the same and I always end up going back to standard 7 ply boards.
That's Canadian dollars. They're $60 USD. So depends on how you go through boards, if you're chipping them to death, then not worth it, if you're a bigger guy breaking a few boards a week, these tech boards are a great deal.

@@benmiller9854 pretty sure girl stopped using Chinese wood. Either way it doesn't matter. It's all maple. The only difference is those price point boards.

Maybe they’ll have more sizes in the future. I think they’re just 8”-8.5” right now, but could be wrong
and non off these boards are made any smaller than 8.0 as far as i know. Strangely I've been loving the 7.5 boards which is weird but tre flips are so much easier than my normal 8.25. Well i guess an 8.0 is ok might have to just buy one of these soon
You can always do what neen does and have a 7.75 for flip tricks an 8.25 for ledges and an 8.5 for hucking :p

having only top layer stronger is stupid, I skated Almost impact light (7ply boards with carbon fiber on top) boards and they break as fast as regular boards, they just brake in the middle and not on the nose and tail!

I would generally say yes, the pop is higher for all these carbon fiber maple wood hybrids.

I think Pop Secret, Vx Decks and flight decks all have their strengths if you're looking for a long lasting board.

What shape is he skating here?
I’m not sure about the flight deck’s construction, but the Santa Cruz VX is NOT fiberglass on the bottom layer. It’s actually wood, and the next layer is fiberglass. The very top layer (griptape side) is fiberglass as well. Santa Cruz makes the best composite deck in my opinion. ✌️

Honestly, nothing. I maybe would have sized up. It was an 8.5 and I’d go 8.6... with the narrow nose and tail it made the board feel skinnier than normal. But I really liked it all around.
Addding to Levi's comment, if you're someone who really cares about weight, they are slightly heavier than a Santa Cruz VX or Powell Peralta Flight Deck. But the trade off is they feel a little more natural with the wood plys and the shape on this board was soooo good.

These Pop Secret decks don’t have any fiberglass in them. Carbon fiber and fiberglass are two completely different materials. These decks just have seven plies of maple with carbon fiber (not fiberglass) strips on the very top, with some sort of resin, probably epoxy, to laminate the strips to the wood.
And Flight and VX decks only use maple, fiberglass and epoxy, with NO carbon fiber.
