  • Follow these simple steps on how to clean your Honeywell Warm Mist Humidifier HWM845.
    If you have questions, please reach out to our Consumer Relations team by emailing us at SocialSupport@helenoftroy.com. We are here to help!
    Weekly cleaning is recommended to keep your Honeywell Warm Mist Humidifier running efficiently.
    Before cleaning, turn off, unplug, and wait 20 to 30 minutes for the unit to cool before cleaning. All maintenance should be done in the kitchen or bathroom on a water-resistant surface near a faucet.
    Empty the water tank and Essential Oil Cup and set aside. Next, remove the mist chimney by pulling the red latch toward the front of the unit, and lift straight up.
    Then, remove the Water Tray by lifting from the tab and empty the water. Replace the water tray and mist chimney. These must be in place for cleaning.
    Next, follow these separate steps for descaling and disinfecting. Both steps are important and must be performed separately.
    Slowly pour 2 cups of undiluted, distilled white vinegar into the reservoir where it will drain into the heating chamber soak for twenty minutes to loosen mineral buildup on the heating element.
    After soaking, remove the mist chimney. Remove the heating element cover. Wet the bristles of a soft brush with vinegar and gently scrub the heating element, and other parts to remove mineral deposits.
    If scale is still visible, moisten a paper towel with vinegar and wrap it around the heating element. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes or until scale loosens. Remove the paper towel and scrub off any remaining scale.
    Next, remove the water tray and empty the vinegar into sink and rinse until the smell of vinegar is gone. Replace the Water Tray in the base. Replace the heating element cover and lock the mist chimney in place to begin the disinfecting process.
    Use gloves while performing the disinfecting process.
    Mix a half gallon of water with a half teaspoon of bleach and pour the solution into the water tank.
    Replace the tank cap and gently swish to wet the inside of the tank. Place the water tank on the base so the solution drains into the reservoir and soak for twenty minutes.
    After soaking, remove the water tank and carefully empty the bleach solution into the sink. Rinse with water until the smell of bleach is gone.
    Then, carefully remove the mist chimney and set aside. Empty the solution from the Water tray and rinse until the smell of bleach is gone.
    Remove the heating element cover and rinse and wipe the heating element until the smell of bleach is gone.
    To Reassemble, place the Water Tray in the base. Attach the Heating Element Cover and secure the Mist Chimney. With the Tank Cover securely closed, replace water tank on base.
    Your humidifier is now clean.

      Just after 3-4 usages/gallons and it’s already all caked up, especially if you use tap water rather than distilled water. And once the mineral build up is too much the machine just won’t work anymore until you clean it out. A lot of effort, imo… Mine broke down only after about 1 year… Good concept, but too much maintenance particularly if following the video instruction.

    I have a vaporizer with that kind heating element. The element will eventually collect build up but I'd rather do a lot of cleaning every couple months than go through that annoyance every week. That is not going to happen. It may run a bit less efficiently but it still works.

    • @pheejl7534
      @pheejl7534 Před rokem

      You’re a very light user of the machine then… As depending on how much your usage is it may not last even a single week, let alone “a few months” before you must clean it out. Once the mineral build up is too much it will just shut down and you have to do maintenance for it to restart again. Mine broke down after 1 year of moderate-heavy use.

    Hello! I’ve cleaned my humidifier 4-5 times now and after each time cleaning, it has gotten slower at producing mist. The first few times using it after getting it, I had to refill the water within 6 hours because it was heating up so fast. Now it seems like it’s just sitting there hardly making mist. Have I ruined it some how?

    • @honeywellpluggedin9834
      @honeywellpluggedin9834  Před 4 lety +3

      Hey Maddi! If your humidifier is producing less output over time, this is likely because minerals from your water are building on the heating element. When soaking the heating element with vinegar (per the cleaning video's instructions), you may want to consider soaking it longer than 20 minutes, such as overnight. You can then use a soft bristled brush to remove the mineral deposits. For additional assistance our team can be reached by emailing SocialSupport@helenoftroy.com.

This will also help prevent the buildup of slime in the water and humidifier surfaces. For the best results, it is recommended that you clean your humidifier per the instructions to remove any buildup that may have accumulated. After the humidifier has been cleaned, place one (1) Protec cartridge per tank and fill them with fresh water. Operate humidifier according to the manufacturer’s directions and replace Protec cartridge every 30 days. Thank you for checking. This is not like an oil diffuser and will not send the oil out into the room. The way the feature works is that you pour a small amount of the oil into the medicine cup at the top of the cooling chamber. As the warm air passes the oil, it will pick up some of the scent an help spread that through the room. I don’t like the design of this because the heating element isn’t on the bottom and it doesn’t produce as much steam like the 705 340 and the 950 models their heating elements are on the bottom the 340 produces the most steam because it’s a 400 W heating element but I hate that it’s a top fill design LOL

      We will be happy to provide that information. The Medicine Cup can be removed from the unit and cleaned by hand using regular dish soap and warm water. If you have any other questions, please email our support team at SocialSupport@helenoftroy.com and we will be happy to assist you.

    The HWM705 was so much easier to clean. Why did you change the design?

      @@honeywellpluggedin9834 That is odd because on the honeywell store it says item has been discontinued and there is no stock anywhere online.

      Dito. I just emailed the address provided in the other response here. Hopefully it's a simple fix as there aren't any parts that I can see broken.

    Hi, so you've got to be more clear- the voice in the video is saying "half gallon of water" while the caption only says gallon.

      Hi Ravanya, thanks for this feedback. This humidifier has a 1 gallon tank capacity. For disinfecting, mix a half gallon of water with a half teaspoon of bleach and pour the solution into the water tank.

    Bleach and vinegar

    • @honeywellpluggedin9834
      @honeywellpluggedin9834  Před 2 lety

      Yes, you do need to do both the vinegar cleaning and the bleach cleaning. This needs to be separately, with the unit rinsed between the different cleanings. If you have any other questions, please email our support team at SocialSupport@helenoftroy.com.

      This unit does require weekly maintenance to continue to provide you with humidification to combat the dry air and side effects of dry air. If you do not want to do the maintenance on this humidifier, we would advise an Evaporative humidifier, although you will need to change the filter periodically. If you have any questions about what humidifier would be best for you, please email us at SocialSupport@helenoftroy.com

      Yup. Didn’t realize I had all that gunk (scale) to deal with. Costs too much to use that much vinegar every week. Time to look for a different humidifier. 🙁

    What about the fucking three little parts? Black rubber thing and a spring for the tank plug?????? How about those? Where the fuck do they go. I didn’t clean it trying to put back together but apparently I’m the only one with this problem in the whole entire world. Manual says fuck all!!!!!!!!

      We will be happy to assist you. In order to determine how best to help you, please email us at SocialSupport@helenoftroy.com with an image of the three parts (so we know exactly which parts you are inquiring about) and if you are asking how to clean them or how to put them back on when you have finished cleaning. Once we have this information we will be able to assist you.
