Lud being a bro for making this video 7:59 to help us avoid mid-roll ads.
it was probably exactly 8:00 in a video editor but YT likes to cut off a second
@@IndigoPolecat feel like it was intentional since 2 mentions of hitting 8 minutes had been made (especially the countdown being the final thing) so in terms of conventional humour, it has all the components for it to be an intentional joke
I still got a midroll lmao
ad block.
@@IndigoPolecat It's like the end of Inception. People can debate for eternity whether it was intentional or not.
I'm a huge fan of what this channel has become. Its like mini Ludwig TEDTalk.
LUDTalk
LUDTalk
he’s gotta change the name i haven’t seen any mail in months
Isn’t mini Ludwig just regular Ludwig?
Hell yea
Ludwig making this video less than 8 minutes is the best form of joke in the entire video.
Good video btw.
I like people with long brain. I have long amount of disl*kes btw. Why? Maybe people with short brain disl*ke because jealous of my long amount of subscr*bers. Please have long brain, dear blu
@@AxxLAfriku what the FUCK did I just come across
that’s actually insane, i had no idea how little these shorts made per views
One thing I’ve seen Ludwig and Charlie miss with these videos is that since they’re #shorts you can’t have ads on them. But if you had that same clip be a normal short CZcams video it would be more or less guaranteed to make a few thousand dollars
That's why a lot of tiktokers eventually tries to pivot to long form content. Shorts are great to go viral and grab audience, but there's little profitability in holding people's attention for less than 1 minute.
@@daniman0114 sometimes when you dont put #shorts youtube still just randomly is like "oh this is a vertical video here you go become a short" but yeah sometimes youll get lucky, but even with those you make more money but you get way less views because they arent in the Shorts section of youtube
@@daniman0114 wdym he missed it? He dedicated a section of this video talking about why he doesn’t do that?
Thank god, though. 85%+ of them are annoying af and they recently removed the way to stop seeing specific channels. Recently I watched a chess video. Now 98% (not exaggerated) of my recommended shorts are chess-related
Ludwig’s reaction to Schlatt banning the minecrafters has more than 10 times the views than Schlatt’s clip, which really is the epitome of a Mogul Move
In my experience, shorts can get recommended as a regular video on desktop. So you can either get a good amount of money or 5 cents on a video with millions of views.
yeah i dont watch any shorts on mobile, ill just go to tiktok instead
@@snickers2210 why have 2 app just to watch the same thing.
This is so true. It's weird that they can scam you like that. You would think a million views would equate to shit tons of money, but that isn't the reality.
yo ronillust!
@@snickers2210 I watch shorts exclusively on my phone. Granted I only watch CZcams on my phone and PlayStation
I find the behind the scenes content interesting. I don't have any aspirations of getting into content creation myself, but it's cool to learn about. I'd imagine if I was trying to get into making content this sort of stuff would be a useful resource too.

I work closely with the shorts team at CZcams back on October they shifted the algorithm to where generally speaking shorts won’t get thrown into the recommended feed and if they do it’ll be in the shorts player rather than the longform player that had ads. Back before Oct I made upwards of 1k from a single 30 second short. I can also breakdown what it takes to get the max bonus they offer every month. I’ve been working with a ton of creators to iron what amount of views equates to how much money in the bonus. The greatest resource for a shorts creators especially ones that are able to most multiple videos a day are longform compilations you can monetize tf outta those and even if your content is already recycled long that’s been made into shorts it’ll still pop off.
yo man love your mickey content hope the mousey don't take you down
czcams.com/video/hBfo4OvbvGo/video.html
That's so weird. My recommended is always full of shorts. I prefer longer vids so I find it pretty annoying actually.
youtube Einstein over here
I wonder if showing shorts content in the main player was negatively affecting viewer retention. I can imagine people used to watching 8+ minute videos would just ignore most shorts anyways and they'd naturally just filter themselves out. Pushing videos to people who obviously don't want to see them would negatively affect their experience and could contribute to them closing the app.
Shorts are almost entirely just an advertising vehicle for the channel. If you really want to make money, you have to get a huge amount of views on Shorts and transition a portion of that audience to long form content. Even if you can convert 10% of your Shorts audience to long form content, that's pretty good.
Lud doesn’t realize that videos under a minute get way less ads, and that makes sense if you think about it
@@Boostiverse can shorts even be over a minute? Seems like a redundant point to make.
@@JamesV1 yeah they can but think about it, would you actually want a lot of ads on videos that short?
@@Boostiverse He compared it to a regular video that’s under a minute that made significantly more money despite only a 1/6 or so of the views.
@@Boostiverse I think the ad system for shorts is similar to how tiktoks place ads. It's not in the video directly but the ads is the same form of a short. So as you scroll and scroll on the amount of shorts you watch, you probably see an Ad every 10 shorts. This isn't very beneficial either since those types of ads are easily skippable
I’m a shorts creator. For me 20,000,000 views is $1,000 in the shorts fund. I usually get like 30 million, $1500. I get between 500-1000 from my tiktok creator fund. And the rest of the money i make comes from sponsorships. I think that 85 was the adsense. People who click on your video on your channel (NOT on the shorts feed) may get an ad if your monetization is on for that.
Is there any difference to making the same content for shorts and normal CZcams vids?
@@ianmass2000 shorts get put in the shorts reels
So are you also saying that if someone clicks your short through the shorts feed they won't get an ad?
How would you explain the discrepancy exactly between your income and Ludwig's?
Also, I think that "Revenue" section that he shows in the video points out to the revenue made in THE LAST 28 DAYS and not the entire time the video exists, so there's that too, he would have to use a more recent video for a better example. But still, kudos to him for talking about this subject (finally someone had the BALLS to do it) People have to learn that they need to talk about incomes, it's the only way of not being exploited in the long run. You have to reveal how wealthy you are in order to make more wealth in the long term. Yeah, yeah, crazy I know, yada yada go F yourself and ur mom too, why are u even reading this endless paragraph anyway? LOL Because I jebaited you into clicking the "Read More" button Ha Ha Ha get rolled
Not gonna lie, Lud being so transparent with all this has really been beneficial. Its awesome to see an omegeChad content creator putting out the right info for new creators. Im here for it, keep it up Lud
lud and toast talking and explaining these kind of things about content creators are so awesome, both of then brings a lot of crality to people who want to try their luck on the internet game
literally 1 second less than 8 minutes
basedwig
Good to see the editing magic of one take jake.
As a small content creator, watching these types of vids about shorts content from my favorite youtuber is very helpful, I hope you consider making more of these types of content man.
I really appreciate the consistent transparency regarding all of your dealings with CZcams. Whether it's revenue, bans, interface, etc. You're out here making CZcams take notice and making a real difference, slowly but surely
notice what???
Lud: goes on a mini tangent about squeezing vids to make them 8 minutes long
This video being 7 minutes and 59 seconds: 😄
Shorts are cracked for farming new viewers, but you’ll be lucky to get a happy meal from 99% of them
I don't get how the shorts viewers will transition to bigger content. Take yours for example; I love sitting back for a 45 minute video but the moment a short comes up it seems too short for any of the humor that could be made to stick. Most of your long vids are unforgettable while the shorts are a little less interesting. Maybe that's just my own personal taste, but if CZcams wants to encourage more shorts then why not pay you more to make em? Also Patterz farm this topic for views it's literally free money. I'd love to hear your opinion on the topic.
I think that shorts and clips are a decision the creator gets to make. Do shorts: get more views, therefore more exposure but less pay. Make clips: less views, less exposure but more money. It will be better for a creator who is already big to do clips and for a small creator to do shorts
💯
I don't mind "less pay"
The point of discussion here is that CZcams STILL SERVES ADS ON THESE SHORTS, it's just the case that they're not respecting their part of the agreement to forward portion of that revenue back to you... and that sets a dangerous precedent for other crappy things coming soon
‘it’s under 8 minutes guaranteed’
7:59
even did the extra 10 seconds of waiting at the end 😂
CZcams be like: Oh your short got millions of views? Ok here's some pennies
Okay this was actually a really good/interesting video. I always wondered how much money shorts/clips made regarding their huge view status
I love how transparent Ludwig is. And it seems like he treats his employees very well.
You’re getting so many awesome, intimate, and comparative insights into compensation, promotion, form factors, etc. with this transition to YT. Obviously you had some idea before, but it’s refreshing to see what each platform offers creators. Next stop is Reddit live streaming, Instagram Live, and then you’ll have all the infinity stones
I really appreciate the transparency from Lud. Really helps other creators know what they’re getting into if they wanna go full time. Know what is and isn’t worth you time editing etc.
I'm glad Lud gets this transparent with his viewers. It's different and nice to see.
I like the shorts. They are a little easier to make and you get to know the editing and what you have to do. And as a small channel it’s far less demotivating to have a short get 0 views then a video you spend days on.
Ludwig, you seriously are an amazing creator, i love the fact that even when you switch to youtube you dont pretend they are perfect, you always speak out about issues on the platform and give us viewers insights about creators we never knew, just like what you said in this video
This is a real service to us, thank you Ludwig!
Of course it's a Schlatt clip that gets 10 million views.
The strategy you dropped at the end really makes sense. Use the short form content to drive traffic to the long form content.
That's where the money is but short form seems to have a larger reach. Thanks for sharing this Lud
Lud you're honesty and openness about this stuff is what made me first want to watch your content. Makes me feel like we are such good parasocial friends
All I feel is pain
LMAO
This channel is a godsend for those trying to get into content creation, such as myself. The behind the scenes stuff is super interesting and it's great to see a content creator give mostly unbiased info about the platform they're on.
I actually really got into Ludwig from his clips on tiktok and yard clips, I watched some of the subathon but I never was really into his content, now hes one of my favorite CZcamsrs
This is honestly really interesting. I really appreciate this. Thanks Lud! Really liking the behind the scenes
idc what that one guy says. GREAT VIDEO, LOVE IT
I have a video with same amount of views, I made $1.77 🙂! Just because that's the ad rates in India 😂
there are 10 people in a room and one of them is indian, without asking where they are from what do you ask them to find out who is the indian? Answer: nothing, they will already tell you that like 1000 times without asking anything.
@@kaan8964 I mean his mention of being Indian was pretty insightful since it lets you see the difference in the amount of money depending on country
I was thinking about that the other day. As far as I knew (and I know very little about all this...) Facebook was notoriously known to pay content creators from foreign countries in local currency (often crappy devalued currency as you can guess) WHILE SERVING THE ADS IN US DOLLARS (holy fuck)
so I started thinking... does Tik Tok does the same? what are the rates for Tik Tok? do they pay you in US Dollars regardless of where you are?
12 Million views for USD 1.77 is still brutal, even to a point of being unnecessary... come on
was that that you got? 12 million views?
how many translated into new subscribers?
Mogul Mail is such a blessing
The timing on the ad right after the video ended actually made me laugh so hard
Great video Lud!! Thank you for being one of the most transparent content creators on CZcams!! 👏👏👏
Lud, you’re perfect . I love you. Keep doing everything you want to! You’re genuinely special ✨🌀
I love how there's no midrolls but the end is: "LETS G-" *ad plays*
man kept this vid under 8 min at 7.59 🙌🏾😄
NL had a short go viral and he has talked about how he made barely any money on it, but did see he get a decent number of subscribers directly from that short. So it's definitely good marketing, even if the short itself isn't making much money.
But does it really help? I saw many shorts creator that had over 1Million subs but their regular vids get like 10-30k views or even less. Maybe it is diffrent now but few month ago they had almost bo view compared to their subs. Having shorts with 150M views but regulat vids with 50k
Really appreciate how you keep it real Lud. Thanks for being a person.
Personally, I would rather watch your vod channel than a short any day of the week. It’s not to say the shorts are bad, I just enjoy being able to unwind after a day at work, let my mind go blank and just enjoy good content. The clips channel, in my opinion is just a way of quickly revisiting a funny moment that might have happened in the vod or main channel instead of having to go back to the original video and time skip to the moment the clip happened. Anyways, thanks for all the great content! Mogul mail, and your main channel are my favorite at the moment.
I love these videos it’s totally different than gaming and reacting, it is like a therapy
Damn. Now I wonder how much these "sleep music" or "rain sounds" videos make with sometimes over 24 hours of content and 100 million views!!
Seeing the subscriber count on this channel reminds me of the time I first found your CZcams channel. You were still at only about 200k subs but I knew you would make it big. Thanks for making my days better.
That ending was funny as hell. I am 100% watching the full ads for you Ludwig.
Thank you for shining some light on this. I wish they made it all transparent, it's not like we wouldn't participate (unless content creators need a strike then yeah I'd help tbh) but knowing is better than...not knowing. Fuck ads. I skip them constantly. I never sit through one I cannot STAND ads. lts messed up you only get paid if you advertise someone else for money.
I mean it is the same concept as Television. They make money by running ads. I hate ads too, but I just mute my audio and let em roll so whoever I'm watching can get that ad revenue.
Thanks Lud for showing us the reality. Appreciate you.
hahaha “stalling for 15 secs” so funny man! 😂 made me stay and wait for that 15 sec mark haha
I only get ads for shorts when I click on it from my history tab (which leaves the shorts app section) because I want to actually rewind and pause at a specific point.
Shorts unironically pay in exposure
All I learned from this is that lud is inching towards the line of the eatable rich
With 85$?
Hank Green recently made a video (and a small follow up) about how creators make money on tik tok, would highly recommend it
I really appreciate videos like these, and the transparency of this video
does get you lots of subs tho
Yo camman can you do more shorts Minecraft challenges
One of the few clips I didn't watch because it has Schlatt in it.
Also, you can view a “short” outside of the “shorts shelf” as a regular video and is counted as a regular video view. But it likely won’t be picked up in the algorithm.
But monetization of videos on the “shorts shelf” vs regular videos is different. One is based on adsense, the other based on the YT shorts content creator program (like TikTok) that has a predetermined budget of what they’ll be paying out content creators that year.
I wouldn't mind 8 mins lud, we get the entertainment u get the money
since I've seen charlie's video on the topic I'd say around 30 bucks?
i’ll sell you a Ludwig NFT for all of the money
I was literally going to donate on your next stream to ask if you could talk about shorts 🤯 thanks for the content and info as always!!!
I've noticed this trend too. Shorts get pushed into people's recommended like crazy, but most revenue made is still coming from video content. Shorts are great for introducing your content to a wide audience, but you've also got to back it up with longer videos too.
lol all the people in this comment section saying “GREAT VIDEO, LOVE IT” when it got posted a minute ago and is an 8 min video
I don't really get the confusion here tbh. The shorts system is something that uses a completely different system than regular videos (including ads as you've stated), which is essentially just a tiktok clone. It's also infinitely easier to accrue views and hit the algorithm (I don't know why, but it just is - maybe a difference in watch time per user? idk). For the content creators that are solely shorts creators (or editors that only work on short content), it seems unfair on the surface just comparing $/views, but the truth is that they simply wouldn't get the views if it wasn't in the shorts system to begin with, so also comparing views on shorts to non-shorts isn't really worthwhile - at least on a 1-to-1 scale. I think that most people on tiktok and youtube shorts understand that the money they make from ads/direct payment isn't what is going to pay the bills at the end of the day, and instead that the real worth is the attention that they can then redirect to some other more profitable platform or leverage in popularity for sponsorships.
Maybe a workaround for this would be to also make compilation videos of all your most popular clips, so that they can still be served ads like normal videos.
a slight tangent: on the topic of tiktok vs youtube pay, hank greens second channel has a great video on it,
tldw: regular youtube videos (not shorts) pays based on a ad-viewed basis, its like 55% of the money youtube gets from ads,
on the other hand: tiktok pays based on a fixed pool of money, and distributes that to creators by how many views they get
this has the weird effect where, if tiktok gets more popular, creators who get the same views as before make less
why isn't youtube putting ads on their shorts? Is this a response to tiktok paying their creators pennies? youtube pays a little more, but still almost nothing... Thanks for the transparency, Ludwig!
Ends on 7:59 😂
Transparency like this is what, regardless what content Ludwig makes or post, I will always respect him for
honestly that clip was fire lmao keep it up luggywiggy

Just for the sake of reference in Greece 1200 monthly salary is the typical salary working in a big company. From programmer to environmental engineer (usually most people own a master degree as well and the highest the salary will ever get is 1800).
You’r story stelling is amazing!
I swear Ludwig is the best CZcams creator I've seen that combines entertainment and education perfectly into a video that after it ends I want him to keep talking about the subject. I taking notes.
There really ought to be a monthly payment tied directly to watch time in addition to the current monetization features.
i love how you made this a short just to spite youtube
Pog ending, loved the Instant well timed ad
Thanks for this Ludwig
The cut at the end is awesome
Insane timing with Hank Green's insight into tiktok/CZcams content monetisation vid 😳👌
This is the most Mogul content on the platform, you are teaching your fans how to win and I can never tell you how much I appreciate how much you are willing to share 😀
You should post each clip twice, once as a short and once as a clip with different title and thumbnail. This way you also maybe get to know which title and thumbnail are better by comparing the views to the other videos of their kind (shorts to shorts clips to clips).
this is so informative! thanks Ludwig!
The fact this video is 8 minutes long and he talked about that specifically is some great planning when you're going off the cuff
This is actually pretty helpful information just to have as a resource. Thank you
one take jake did an amazing editing job
I have never gotten an ad prior to watching a short or clip, so that makes complete sense. Videos have an ad maybe 50% of the time.
That's why you should post shorts of your longer videos
There's a fine line with this I guess in that if you pay a slightly less amount per 1000 views on a shorts to a longform video then you could see the decline of longfrom content, so although it should definitely be higher I think there should still be a decently sized gap between pay per 1000 views for a short and longform video
