      +Mr Jones So sick of people thinking Ten is a wimp because he didn't want to die. Try putting yourself in his shoes in that position. Also, why reply to a comment praising great acting/characters with a negative statement? What's the point?

    • @MrDylancutter
      @MrDylancutter Před 6 lety +192

      You mean it's wimpy that he was upset at losing someone he was in love with, losing his entire species and planet, and then finding out he's going to die? Men are judged enough for showing their emotions without your dated, ugly views in the picture. The Tenth Doctor actually had a capacity for emotions, something you clearly lack. And with that last statement you lost my interest in even having a civilised conversation with you, not that I think that's possible anyway. Goodbye.

    • @LiamCatterson
      @LiamCatterson Před 6 lety +166

      I am guessing Eight is a wimp too considering he felt burdened with losing Lucie Miller. I'm guessing Eleven in a wimp because he retired after losing Amy and Rory.
      Fact is, the Doctor values his companions. He loves them so much and he's not going to shrug off a companion's demise like it's nothing, especially if they are close, like Ten and Rose were. And he wasn't crying about regeneration, he was upset with the fact he was nearing what he and Eleven believed the total end to the Doctor on Trenzalore. That's why Ten said "I don't want to go" on Day of the Doctor.

      Mayo Tango131 Don't give me this "real Doctors" bollocks. They're all the Doctor, they're all unique. Ten wore his emotions on his sleeve more than any other and perhaps by this point he was just sick of constantly changing when he didn't want to. Don't forget, with the benefit of hindsight we now know he was actually about to regenerate into what he would've thought was his final body before permanent death. So of course he'd be upset about that.

    Honestly, Bill getting turned into a cyberman was one of the most distressing moments in Doctor who for me. Lots of companions die but the fact that Bill waited patiently for the doctor as she slowly got turned into a cyberman was so much worse. I felt so distressed when they revealed she was a cyberman. It just felt so emotional and real, it was so upsetting and scary.

      It's not just you. The average Cybermen are a fully metallic shell that you could be forgiven for mistaking for generic robots. This is the best of what made Moffat a great showrunner. He had his weaknesses, but when he was on, he was ON. He took embarrassing production values of early Doctor Who and turned it on its head. The Mondasian cybermen were a back-to-basics approach that managed to instantly become the scariest and coolest version. That took skilled writing, imagination, a thorough understanding of Doctor Who continuity/canon, and good planning.

    This is quite possibly the darkest moment in the entire series, old and new. You can kill people, you can torture people, you can destroy entire star systems but no amount of destruction will ever be as horrific as seeing someone so close to you having their humanity stripped from them and becoming a cold, emotionless machine. This represents the sheer horror of the cybermen and why they are quite possibly the most disturbing enemy in doctor who. The prospect of having your emotions removed and turned into something completely different seems more scary to me than death itself.

      Sad but true. Scenes like this don't really give me any sort of goosebumps because it's a little too obvious it is coming because the rest of the story line is so slow and mundane... Granted at times there's a little ingenuity in there but it is few and far between. That's why I feel Moffat is a much better one off writer than Russel T. Davies (RTD). RTD was much better at casually slipping in little easter eggs into 100MPH episodes so that you wouldn't always pick up on them! One such example was the Harold Saxon series 3 ending episodes. Hence why the plot twists were not as predictable and actually gave you goosebumps come towards the end of a series...

      Liam Catterson I didnt think it was as spectacular as it could have been at all. The whole episode certainly could have been riveting. As usual with recent Doctor Who and Sherlock series, it’s been ‘tell, not show’. Characters standing talking in a room with very average dialogue (“Id call it a genesis.. the genesis of the cybermen” obviously trying too hard to make fans go crazy), master reveal is the same as all the other Master reveals, and loads of music slapped on later to make it feel more exciting than what’s actually playing out. The drama of the scene is rushed

    Hands down the best thing about this episode was just how creepy it was. Bill walking into the room with the patients, still human underneath, and then the fact that she becomes one herself was brilliant. There was no way to reverse it, that was her fate. This combined with the reveal of the Mondasian Cyberman and the fact it was Bill would have been the most shocking moment in years if it was kept secret, probably of the entire modern series. The problem is they did manage to keep it a secret for the most part but clearly didn’t have the confidence for the series beforehand so put Simm in the series 10 trailer, and then publicly announced his return! Complete marketing balls up, hopefully under Chibnall this sort of thing doesn’t happen again.

They managed to avoid anyone knowing for months beforehand and then they put it in a trailer- as if the people who work in tabloid news are simply going to look away. Then to officially announce it is even worse. It’s peoples choice if they want to believe a tabloid like the mirror but if you officially confirm it then it’s completely ruined.

    On one hand, they really did Bill dirty. On the other hand, they did the Mondasian Cybermen REALLY well.
    I couldn't take them seriously in The Tenth Planet, they looked and sounded too ridiculous. Which makes it impressive that they managed to make them more terrifying without actually changing that much about them (although it's probably just because they had production than they did in 1966)

      His explanation is pretty sound. For the top of the ship time is a matter of minutes. In the same time the further down the ship you go, years can pass. He saw the Tardis appear, would've known at least one of the people stepping out of it would be human, and doesn't want to chance that they know who Harold Saxon is, and would recognise him immediately.

    The old Mondasian Cyberman costume is cheap and flimsy, and yet is absolutely terrifying. It hits that uncanny valley in the perfect way that the modern Cyberman (or hell even the later iterations of Cybermen in classic who) just seem to miss. The design, the movements, and the voice are so WRONG and yet so perfect.
