      Yeah it's interesting I did think it sounded like even if he'd made a commitment to protect Clara, he did still just have his emotions switched off, so his dialogue should be more mechanical. It did sound that way here, though he did end up going on to make a "rousing speech" to an army of emotionless people who literally cannot biologically be moved to action.

    • @briang.2218
      @briang.2218 Před 4 lety +6

      Though actually I did just see some speculation down below that the's passing on his revelation of love being about commitment and not just emotion to the other Cybermen, so as to remind them of their commitment to loving one another and just being generally good, so I suppose it makes some measure of sense. Still, the mind control aspect of the bracelet makes it a little unnecessary.

So to speak. They say that Love burns with a passion. So pretty much what he'd done by giving that speech was reminded all those cybermen that "Love is a Promise." and that if they love each other (because a lot were most likely in some sort of relationship and some might have even had family) then they should burn to save the earth.

      i dont think so, the point of Danny is to show the audience that the doctor is a general who leads his troops, albeit Moffat did this poorly, many of the remarks Danny makes throughout the season are supposed to build up to this moment (albeit done very poorly). However Moffat is really good at writing small moments of dialogue between characters especially the earlier scene where the Danny says "didnt one of those beautiful speeches disappear in the face of a tactical advantage"

      It's easy to get bored when you know how something is going to turn out. The instant the Doctor threw the controller wristband to Danny, both the Doctor and Missy knew what he would probably do with it, and both of them knew there wasn't anything Missy could do to stop it. So, yeah, she was like, "just get on with it," because she knew she had already lost.

    This is the sort of complexity I miss from the current Dr. Who series, and to an extent, Capaldi's last season. In one season, Danny Pink became a full fledged character, and had a better arc than even Clara ended up with. He constantly fought the Doctor on everything, and only tolerated him because of his love for Clara. He started as an awkward, clumsy love interest and became a vital element to defining Capaldi's first season as his opposite. A true companion who never wanted to travel with him ironically.
    Even Bill Potts never got this sort of arc, she barely had a life outside of the doctor which only made her feel more one dimensional. Nardole was a foil, but didn't really grow per se. He challenged him, but mainly as a surrogate for River most of the time. So sad he only stuck around for a season.

Perhaps it's fate that today is the 4th of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom. Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution, but from annihilation. We're fighting for our right to live, to exist, and should we win the day, the 4th of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day when the world declared in one voice, 'We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on, we're going to survive.' Today we celebrate our independence day!"

    I do love how *british* Danny’s military speech is. “Miserable lot” “this is not a good day”, the British military has been quoted as being a negative bunch of fuckers who work well and honestly, yeah, that fits the culture perfectly.
    There’s no glory to be had, no destiny to fight no grand scheme or anything of the sort. It is a JOB to be done, and it is a bad job, and he’s not gonna sugar coat, but needs must and they are tool that can be used.
    I know for Americans, and maybe other cultures too, this can be jarring because of the military celebration culture there, but our guys are just not so reverent of it all, most brits would call their service “a job” a good a bad a tough or fun whatever but a job. My mams old friend. Has quite a few many medals, some rather prestigious, where are they? Fuck knows, maybe the attic we aren’t *sure* but you know what he does treasure? A letter upon his resignation that detailed he was being rewarded for 35 years undetected crimes within military bounds, because he very much committed crimes, like breaking curfew, sneaking food etc etc and they never caught him. THAT is what he cherishes, being a cheeky lad getting away with shit.
    Danny here represents it well, boots on lads, breaks over time to do the slog. Permission to call your superior a bellend
