- After a sold out concert in Las Vegas, Kendrick Lamar invited TheWellVersed and 2DopeBoyz to a late night studio session on the eve of good kid, m.A.A.d city getting unleashed to the masses. In an exclusive clip of our sit down with the artist formally known as K.Dot, the Compton emcee discussed the early pressure of his debut album already being compared to Nas' quintessential hip hop classic Illmatic.
"Illmatic? For people to even put my album in the light of that, is an accomplishment. It's crazy to even be mentioned with it but it's scary at the same time," Lamar says about some reviews suggesting that his Aftermath album is the most important debut since the Queensbridge emcee dropped his album nearly two decades ago.
Lamar also discusses the clip that circulated the web of Andre 3000 sitting in the studio listening to "Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe" and reveals what happens when the cameras went off.
"He stood on the couch, put his hand up and said 'This is golden,'" Lamar says before explaining that 3 Stacks was one of the first individuals to hear the album in its entirety. When asked whether we could see a Kendrick Lamar and Andre Benjamin collaboration in the near future, the TDE rapper paused for a moment before a huge grind stretched across his face as he simply stated "Maybe."
Stay tuned for the entire interview coming soon.

i want to hear a andre 3000 kendrick Lamar song PERIOD!
We're not ready
It's coming! It was announced today 11-2-2016.
Mediazzzzzz I don't think we can handle that at the moment we need time to prepare for that shit 😂😂
ssbrosking36 where did you get that information from??
Marcus Brown I think we're ready..Hopefully Kendricks 4/7 album has him as a feature
To have a rapper who is as talented and as passionate about the art as he is, but also humble enough to know that others came before him and paved the way, and then to have him become actually commercially successful..its a good day for hip hop
While it's obvious Dre 3000 was an inspiration to Kendrick it's clear Kendrick is his own artist, that is if you take the time to listen. I'm just glad that what I already figured is now brought to truth in this video, I knew I heard 3000 in his style. And Im glad Kendrick is not only humble and man enough to admit it but he embraces it and invites Dre in the studio with him. That's payin homage, thats Hip Hop, he doin it right.
that's because there both gemenis
+Mediazzzzzz naw, i mean they are but Kendrick has that similar robotic voice Andre uses as well as a similar flow, matter of fact Kendrick be sounding southern.
SootheSayinYaySayer how tf does Kendrick sound southern? He west coast to the core. You must not be familiar with his music
@@0ladap0 Lol.... He doesnt sound southern. Wtf?
Lmao I am familiar with his music and buy his albums, he just be sounding country to me sometimes.
The song is dope but you can tell that Andre 3000 had an impact on Kendrick's style.
but? i don’t think it takes away from the song being dope
But Kendrick is not Gay
the footage where 3000 is telling him "that was excellent"...that audio is in the song after the 1st verse...I've always heard that part in the song, now I know where it came from and who said it,,, makes it even more special now.
Shout to Kendrick for paying homage, too
Albums like illmatic and MAAD city is just giving consciousness to the hood. Giving them awareness of their surroundings in a poetic, well composed rap.
Props to those trying to educate.
There are artists that's for the culture, and there are artists that's for the hustle.
KenFolk Da Anchor well said
And then there was a cultured good kid who stole their hustler
3 Stacks/K.Dot collab would be dope. I could just hear those two going back and forth with their verses.
Why has Kendrick and Andre 3000 not made a track together yet
It just hit me.... Kendrick do gotta some 3000 in him... I can hear it now... Wow that's crazy
"Sometimes i need to pee alone" 3:03
Dude kendrick just made it just sitting with Andre 3000 and his bumping his dame
Head just gives a statement 🔥♥️
maaaaaaan i just can't wait!!! i already got my tickets for his show the 29 of january in paris!!! can't waiiiiit!!!!!!!
Of course! I think Lupe is one of the realest rappers and he is definitely underrated.
Like the song "Aquemini".
Y folk be scared to admit their icons there idols!! Andre the goat man!!!
HIS LYRICAL FLOW AND STYLE IS SO MUCH LIKE 3 STACKS THAT I CAN'T ACCEPT HIM FULLY
EARL. JOEY. STEEZ. JAY ELECTRONICA. LETS NOT FORGET THESE OTHER MASTER MINDS.
As much as a fan I am of Drake, Andre 3000 would've been a better choice of guest of Poetic Justice, when talking about women few (if any) do it better than Three Stacks.
It is to most people. especially in this day in age. when is the last time you heard a complete album like this? go ahead i will wait. and this is breaking all the coast down, so more power to it.
oh didnt know that but thanks for the info ill be looking towards hearing it now
I've listening to Hip Hop for a long time. This reminds me of the first time I heard, EPMD Strictly Business, Nas Illmatic, Outkast Southernplaya...! Really now this Album has a Flow I can truly listen and appreciate the Vibe. It's a Must have Album! If you don't have it get it... He's not going away like most of these Rappers out here. Promise you that...
cant wait til the next album..my body is ready
we need ken.jcole.nas 3stack.zro.krit dream team who do want hear
john reyna that'd be epic. throw freddie gibbs in there too lol
Kendrick is easily the best thing that has come out of hip hop since Lupe.
But it fits in with the overall story of good kid m.A.A.d city perfectly.
Happy 10 years.
I wish I would have bought a copy directly from a store instead of online. I'm still waiting for my copy to get here, and while listening to the track playing with Kendrick and Andre 3000 in the studio, I literally stood up and shout. I was almost speaking in tongues, LOL. Never heard a song to make me speechless, and just hearing a bit of it made me speechless.
ANDRE AND KENDRICK ON A TRACK.... HISTORY YA BISSSHHH
I love it that he's humble
Sit down
As a mumble
Kendrick go hard!
🐐🐐🐐🐐
Agreed, but I'm really happy that Kendrick is being recognised in the mainstream :D
I havn't heard all that much of Krit so I can't judge properly but from his album and his most recent mixtape he sounds very promising to me.
love your hat Kendrick
🙌❤🙌
Don't underestimate old Lupe. I'm talking FNL1 and The Cool Lupe. I'm a huge fan of Kendrick but Lupe brought a breath of fresh air to the rap game when he came out with those two albums and he was killing it in the mixtape game also.
The album is one big movie
I need a link to that footage of Kendrick and 3G in the studio
Do most rappers play shows with the actual track playing in the back, instead of an instrumental? I have noticed that in all the TDE videos I watch you can always hear the album vocals in the background while they rap over it.
andre 3k is on another level
Yeah, most of them do. I thought it was weird at first, too, but only a few rappers have the vocal ability and endurance to make their voice sound like the recording every night. I can only think of like three
@Bigboi54 man this album is classic. i dont do comparisons, but if they wanna throw one out there, no one has been this poetic on a album since tupac
Comparisons have always been there, and always will be.
I fuck with Kendrick early on stuff super hard!!!
at this rate this man will be one of the greatest...
Everytime I hear the track, I imagine 3 stacks rapping on it. Would be really dope!
this dude is miles ahead anyone in he game...smart ass dude for sure
You're assuming I haven't heard them. Friday night lights was a good mixtape and I am very much looking forward to Born Sinner.
The Heart pt.2 & 3 would be a great place to start. Vanity Slaves too
i think he is, he reminds me of Kid Cudi. I never heard of Cudi before Day 'N' Nite but after that track i got hooked so i went back looking at some of his older tracks and found out he had been around for years but just didn't have the exposure. you might like Rigamortis and Hiipower those were released about a year ago and he got better tracks( i'm into music videos so i mentioned those 2. What Lamar does is remind us we don't have to rap about cash & hoes to sell albums in 2012
Kendrick Lamar idk if u read comments but U R the FUCKIN GREATEST EVER!!
After properly hearing all albums, I do think cruel summer isn't as good as I first thought but more importantly I rate GKMC above every album I mentioned. Listening to it properly I think one or two songs pull the album back (debatable) but it is an amazing album, and you have to properly hear it to appreciate the lyrical value, its a shame its being compared to illmatic because it really is a good album
Any Hip Hop junkie would never say that it is dead. Just because major record labels took over the mainstream years ago, made it profitable over artistic, dont mean shit. Its your fault they got you. Now, more than ever there is a great selection of good Hip Hop is being made and being expose thanks to the internet. Whats your taste, I'm sure Hip Hop has it...and had it for years. Dont sleep.
Wasn't Nas way younger than Kendrick when he dropped, Nas is pure greatness. Fuck longevity even being a factor that nigga was and still is the truth!
We need Andre 3000 to hop on Poetic Justice imo
i acc think andre 3000 + big boi= kendrick. i think these guys' flows are unbelievably good and top notch lyricism all the time. kendrick has a little bit of all my fave rappers. he's something special man
Damn, I needa get this album. GKMC is really comparable to "Illmatic" though??!
GKMC is in essence a short film, its in its own league.
People sleeping on this album must not have gotten through the analogies and messages within the album. This shit was seriously dope and sooner or later it will reach the level of impact Illmatic had in the 90s.
you called it bro cuz in 2012 i was 9 born in 04 but i learned to appreciate both eras 90s n 2010s and i’m glad i grew up in the era i did. fr
bitch dont kill my vibe remix ft andre' 3k is coming soon... i can feel it
i feel as if i should buy this CD
Does anyone know where Kendrick buys his jeans from?
Especially the light pink and destroyed pairs?
anyone know all the songs played in the background
The Recipe is a great tune !
Please don't hate on this comment. But as an eemc, Kendrick reminds me more of a Mos def or Q-tip than Nas. If you don't believe it do a little homework, I lived thru the golden era of hip-hop. It's good music nevertheless, I just think the comparison is off. He's too creative to compare him to compare him to just Nas. Let Kendrick be Kendrick, He's gone be around for a while.
Okay Kendrick Lamar is a new kat on the scene; bright talent....But let's keep it 100 people! He is not this big of a deal as the media is making him...What has he done (lyrical MC technicality) that has never been seen?? C'mon!!
3stacks is your favourite rapper's favourite rapper!
it is .. its comparable to aquemini too.
Couple of Comments below. This Album is being compared to Illmatic Album. NAS woke people up with that Legendary Album. I think this Album is saying "Wake Up, the West Coast is Active For Real!" Does that make Sense?
haha thats right sir!
section 80 was his, wasn't it? that was a stellar album too. this is his sophomore LP. i agree with your point though.
INDEED
I agree but I guess i was just talking about the mainstream, should have said so.
OH OK. GOTCHA.
Kendrick, give back.
Lupe Fiasco, and his right.
Well he's doing a Jimi Hendrix biopic right now, but I guess artists like Andre 3000 need to be inspired or motivated to make an album.
Compton is were we come up ya bish
he should collab with nas , that would be epic
Man can we get a Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe remix Feat OUTKAST shut the whole game down fa real.....
But Kendrick is a better rapper that Lupe. I still give Lupe props though.
This 6 years old... So I'm just going to say each their own and keep pushing it cuz LMFAO
ab-soul up next
I think this album is good but in my opinion its not at the top of recent albums, above is:
Good music - cruel summer
Nas - life is good
Rick Ross - good forgives I don't
I think Lupe fiasco is just below it
In my opinion, don't criticise it because you don't like a artist I mentioned, I think its nowhere near on illmatics level but it may become just as significant. one last note, I rate cruel summer above Kendrick because of the guests like mase and Raekwon and the beats
None of them have cracked the mainstream.
Does he wear a C.P Company shirt?
Nas also
Instead of that jayz on it..... WTF It would be craaaazy with outkast DAMN.
WEtscoast Lupe Fiasco?
People who are considered as a 90’s artists would be in their 40’s to 45’s
Why won't Andre 3000 release an album?
Lyrically.... maybe but but the beat selection and sonically Kendrick wins
J Cole as well..
I hear u! But if you've listened and studied rap long enough..You gotta agree that you have to contribute majorly to the art form to be considered next level! Rakim is way before my time, but I understand he elevated rap with creativity..It just shows how desperate rap is now..Kendrick Lamar is treated like this rap messiah..He is talented but not "amazing"..Nothing "new"..Pac was amazing! Big L was amazing! Eminem (esp slim shady) is amazing! Just to name a few..K.L is a good song writer tho!
hell yea that track sound like some outkast shit
Some people consider the Cool to be even better than FNL1...no way its even close to average.
GKMC is GKMC. Illmatic is Illmatic. They are each their own entity not something to be really compared imo.
Comparisons to -illmatic-? What the hell have I missed?
Alright, evidently I've been sleeping. I'm gonna have to sit down and really give this guy's album a serious listen. Comparisons like that are really unfair to Kendrick, though. I don't think the game is even capable of producing an album as good as illmatic (or IWW) anymore.
Sideline Story isn't a good body of work to judge him off of, he's admitted himself it was subpar and it was due to being fresh in the game and label control.
He has two classic mixtapes though, I'd wait until Born Sinner drops to judge.
