Kendrick Lamar Talks Andre 3000 Hearing good kid, m.A.A.d city & Early Comparisons To Illmatic

  • After a sold out concert in Las Vegas, Kendrick Lamar invited TheWellVersed and 2DopeBoyz to a late night studio session on the eve of good kid, m.A.A.d city getting unleashed to the masses. In an exclusive clip of our sit down with the artist formally known as K.Dot, the Compton emcee discussed the early pressure of his debut album already being compared to Nas' quintessential hip hop classic Illmatic.
"Illmatic? For people to even put my album in the light of that, is an accomplishment. It's crazy to even be mentioned with it but it's scary at the same time," Lamar says about some reviews suggesting that his Aftermath album is the most important debut since the Queensbridge emcee dropped his album nearly two decades ago.
Lamar also discusses the clip that circulated the web of Andre 3000 sitting in the studio listening to "Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe" and reveals what happens when the cameras went off.
"He stood on the couch, put his hand up and said 'This is golden,'" Lamar says before explaining that 3 Stacks was one of the first individuals to hear the album in its entirety. When asked whether we could see a Kendrick Lamar and Andre Benjamin collaboration in the near future, the TDE rapper paused for a moment before a huge grind stretched across his face as he simply stated "Maybe."
Stay tuned for the entire interview coming soon.

To have a rapper who is as talented and as passionate about the art as he is, but also humble enough to know that others came before him and paved the way, and then to have him become actually commercially successful..its a good day for hip hop

While it's obvious Dre 3000 was an inspiration to Kendrick it's clear Kendrick is his own artist, that is if you take the time to listen. I'm just glad that what I already figured is now brought to truth in this video, I knew I heard 3000 in his style. And Im glad Kendrick is not only humble and man enough to admit it but he embraces it and invites Dre in the studio with him. That's payin homage, thats Hip Hop, he doin it right.

I think Lupe fiasco is just below it
In my opinion, don't criticise it because you don't like a artist I mentioned, I think its nowhere near on illmatics level but it may become just as significant. one last note, I rate cruel summer above Kendrick because of the guests like mase and Raekwon and the beats

Rakim is way before my time, but I understand he elevated rap with creativity..It just shows how desperate rap is now..Kendrick Lamar is treated like this rap messiah..He is talented but not "amazing"..Nothing "new"..Pac was amazing! Sideline Story isn't a good body of work to judge him off of, he's admitted himself it was subpar and it was due to being fresh in the game and label control.
He has two classic mixtapes though, I'd wait until Born Sinner drops to judge.
