      Ngl i feel like he is trying his hardest to hate on thrawn. He started talking about how it didnt make sense to put mines in space since you can go around them but he forgot that in the phantom menace there were only a few ships covering a part of the planet. Its like he is ignoring lore which is commonly known like that there is hyper space lanes but no he forgets all that since its disney. Also i feel like his argument saying that the stormtroopers armor shouldnt so destroyed i feel like whatever disney did here they would get hate. Some fans may have wanted it to be broken and some not. Also he said that ezra is dumb for refusing the light saber and its annoying since it is meant to show how connected he is with the force.

People not shooting, people very obviously choreographing their strikes to they can be dodged easily, people standing there doing nothing, people forgetting they have the force, people forgetting they have lightsabers, people forgetting how lethal a lightsaber is, etc etc.

    One of the critical components of a good villain is that the heroes are afraid of him. Thrawn in the books was a nightmare to the heroes. He had planned for years, methodically and brilliantly activated his plans, and took apart the heroes bit by bit. This show contantly has the heroes shrugging at the villains. How can the audience feel any fear for the heroes when the villains are unable to hurt them? Utter tripe.

      Well Ezra has been killing off his storm troopers so eventually he stopped sending them and Ezra says in the show he had to stay away from that tower, so Ezra shrugging him off makes sense because what else can thrawn do to him? Also thrawn is clearly more preoccupied with leaving peridea than hunting down Ezra. Sabine shrugging him off, I’ll admit that doesn’t make much sense because he could’ve killed her on the spot, but also she clearly only cares about finding Ezra, not thrawn. Ashoka has never met thrawn, why would she be deathly afraid of him? Hera does express fear that thrawn will return, so I don’t understand your comment

    They forgot Thrawn needed the lessons of Jaws: Never show the shark and let audiences create fear from their own minds. Ignore that Jaws was an accidental discovery uncovered only because the mechatronic monster kept shorting out in the salt water and filming budgets were limited so they had to keep the project moving without the shark.

    • @abford03
      @abford03 Před 8 měsíci +6

      Except this isn’t true. The thing (1982) is a perfect example of a movie monster being shown time and time and time again, and still being undeniably terrifying. Same with Homelander. The key is to make the appearance of the monster or villain unpredictable and the power dynamic scale so well and truly in the villains favour and finally, to give the villain justification for trying to kill the heroes/protagonists.
      But this idea of not seeing makes something scarier is not true, all the time. It works, but it’s just one of many ways to make something scary or intimidating.

    • @GreyHunter88
      @GreyHunter88 Před 4 měsíci

      @@abford03 You're not wrong that different approaches work for different projects, but the scary part about The Thing wasn't because it showed a weird prosthetic monster wobbling around. The horror in that movie came from thinking the monster could be in the room with the protagonists at any time, which is not dissimilar to how they built tension in Jaws. Once the monster is in the open for any considerable amount of time (see the awful Thing prequel), tension is replaced with excitement, and excitement is not scary for long.
      Imagine being in a dark house and thinking someone else is in there with you. You're on edge, straining to hear every noise. The longer that goes on, the more you are going build the scenario in your head, and the scarier it's going to become. Compare that to being chased by a dog. Being chased is scary, sure, in the way that almost falling down the stairs is scary. It's a jolt of adrenaline and self-preservation, but it very quickly gets rationalized because you understand the scenario and you understand the stakes. Replace the dog with a 'monster' and all that really changes is how fast you have to run. The longer that goes on, the less scary it becomes.
      Horror comes from a mixture of tension and climax. If you do nothing but build tension, people get overstimulated and lose focus. Like the musical trick they used in Dunkirk to make the audience uncomfortable. People cannot sustain a level of stress like that indefinitely. On the other hand, if you keep throwing monsters and jump scares at people, they're going to get jaded real fast. The trick is mastering that balance of building as much tension as you can without losing the audience, and then hitting them with the good bits. A perfect example is Alien (a horror movie) and Aliens (an action movie). They use an identical monster, but have completely different feels based purely on how they balance these two elements.

    • @edoboleyn
      @edoboleyn Před 4 měsíci +1

      Both approaches work in horror, but Thrawn isn’t a silent mega shark or a monster. He doesn’t belong to the horror genre, though he should be intimidating.
      He’s a gifted strategist. Read Timothy Zahn’s book-even one-and you’ll appreciate how impressive this character can be when he’s written with the intelligence and complexity he deserves. The delight of a Thrawn book is in anticipating, guessing at, and finally learning his plans as every piece falls perfectly into place-or as he responds to new developments.
      It’s not that Disney showed him too much or too little. It’s that they can’t write a good story, let alone a good story with a tactical mastermind at its heart.

So you're not even seeing conventional writing in that a film is the artistic expression of an individual. You're literally seeing popular opinion congealed into live action. Imagine watching a football game where the crowd calls the plays. A song written by a million fold twitter poll. Naturally, the Stormtroopers still get the comically inaccurate aim. Makes one wonder how they even managed to kill all the Jawas in A New Hope. But what's worse, three of them fire at Sabines back, while she is basically standing in place. One bolt misses, the other actually hits her hand holding her gun. An unarmored hand I might add. Yet, Sabine doesn't sustain an injury, doesn't stop, finishes her turn and fires back with the gun. That is, after a blaster bolt hit her hand.
    In A New Hope a blaster bolt was able to go through a table and fry Greedo instantly. In Disney Star Wars, getting hit by a blaster bolt, that would take out your hand, is super easy, barely an inconvenience. I mean, there is plot armor and then there is this.

      The civilian has no damn clue how accurate a soldier is in a gun fight, cause you know the self-preservation aspect to not get hit.
      In fact soldiers had better accuracy back then with muskets and line formation than they do in modern day with assault rifles and machines guns, and I'm sure many could understand obviously why.
      Compare Stormtrooper aim with the modern US army, and actually the Stormtroopers have better aim than US troops.
      Because civilians are ignorant and stupid on actual combat, they made Stormtroopers look like a joke in the minds of Pop Culture.
      And before anyone brings up Ewoks, your popular phrase of "beaten by teddy bears" is on par with everyone's view on Vietnam (even Lucas used these words) "we were beaten by Rice Farmers."

    I think the scene were Sabine and Thrawn meet would have worked much better if Sabine had mouthed off to Thrawn, he had calmly advised her to try to be more productive and civil, she had ignored him and continued to disrespect him for another few seconds, and he had just looked at one of his nearby Stormtroopers, fractionally inclined his head, and the trooper had just promptly shot Sabine in the leg. She collapses to the floor, but doesn't learn her lesson and rants at Thrawn some more. Another slight nod, and a blaster bolt in the other leg. Finally getting the point, Sabine actually manages to shut her yap for once, and Thrawn makes it clear that her arrogant obnoxiousness will not be tolerated in his presence. She will receive treatment for her current injuries as a gesture of good will, but if she repeats such an outburst, she will not find him so... generous a second time.
    That would help to at least establish Thrawn as a serious threat and someone you don't mess with. It might even afford Sabine an opportunity to reflect on what a suicidally idiotic moron she is being, and that maybe deliberately antagonising someone who is famed for their cold ruthlessness and holds your very life in their hands is not such a grand idea. If any character would benefit from a dose of long overdue humility, it would be Sabine.

    Something that really frustrated me was how they made thrawns troopers weak. Yet again. You would think that having survived in another galaxy et having thrawn as a lead would have make them hardened soldiers. But no. A full squad gets obliterated by two people and they run towards them despite having blasters, long eange weapons. The empire feels so weak and goofy. Arent they supposed to be elite soldiers?

    This show much like most things Disney has pumped out the past Decade have been a major dissapointment. Ahsoka is one of my favorite characters of Star Wars, but for some reason it seems that every time a character gets their own show they are bland, and the show has no understanding on what the character was before. Obi Wan, became a washed out old hermit who gives up on the force who also needs to train Luke when he's ready? Boba Fett wants to become a crime lord who rules with respect, which apparently means doing what other people say after giving orders, and Ahsoka has become a piece of cardboard that crosses her arms and acts stoic all the time. Hell it's gotten so bad that Dave Filloni who helped make the Clone Wars and Rebles shows seems to have forgotten what his characters should act like.

    all the nice art design wasted by really stupid writing. Thrawn was a great character in the books because he wasn't a "evil" antagonist but rather a pragmatic and intelligent leader, here Thrawn feels like a pretender trying to act like a smart person he seen on tv but is in actuality a useless person. oh well the books are still there.

    I hate way more than what they did to the story, what they did to the characters.
    Ahsoka suddenly is condescending, stuck up and not empathetic to Sabine.
    Sabine, a mandalorian who, on multiple occasions battled against enemies outmaching her in skill and number, has nothing of a soldier. (Especially when Hera jumps into the system while she is being held in the ring, and she fkin tells everyone that it is Hera? Wtf, don't you want to scream the encryption codes for her comm too? Where is some Soldier-like discipline? Also the entire rest of the show is about how Sabine is undisciplined, stupid, and not worth the armor she wears. Mandos have fought Jedi and won, and she can't destroy 3 robots and one Ex-Jedi?)
    Oh, and Thrawn. Big departure from the books (honestly, he shouldn't even have a grudge against Ezra, his motivations (from other Canon Media) show clearly that he has no use for personal vendettas and only wants an army against the enemy of his people), but what's far worse, he doesn't look the part. Here we have the guy who battled against multiple melee trainer droids, and won, seemingly enjoying the refectory too much (no offence against the actor, having his voice was more important than physique, but you could have chosen different angles etc), and being antagonising everyone, even if he doesn't have reason to plotwise.

      Thrawn in the EU : master strategist who exploits a species' flaw to decimate a New Republic fleet, combined with clever and unexpected manuveurs. Is surrounded by a competent crew, starting with Captain Pellaeon. Recruits a mad Dark Jedi so that he would use the Force to boost his troops morale, keep Luke guessing and out of his way, while keeping ysalamiri to prevent him from attacking him with the Force. Looks for the lost Katana fleet of the Republic to add numbers to his own, blockades a planet with cloaking device-fitted asteroids, rendering them effectively invisible.
      Thrawn in Disney : never scores a victory against the Rebels, relies on cheap gimmicks like a chameleon droid or a hacker to control Chopper, Hera's droid, is surrounded by morons who effectively thwart his efforts, from botching the battle of Atollon (which ends with the rebels escaping and gaining Yavin 4), establishes a TIE Defender factory (despite him not even being the original creator, Grand Admiral Zaarin from the EU was) only to have Governor Pryce blew it up. Defeated by space whales. And now he KEEPS relying on gimmicks, this time in the form of Nightsisters and raggedy Stormtroopers which he carelessly wastes on Ezra, Sabine and Ahsoka.
      Who do you pick ?
