Meet the Suzuki Ignis!
The second-generation Suzuki Ignis arrived on UK roads in 2017 and over the years it’s been one of the Japanese brand’s most popular offerings. It occupies a rather strange place in the market as it can be considered both a city car or small SUV, depending on who you ask. WhatCar recently named it the best small SUV for value, yet it’s more similar in size to a Volkswagen Up than a Ford Puma.
The Ignis received a facelift in 2020 that gave it even more rugged compact SUV appeal with revised exterior styling, as well as the addition of a new hybrid powertrain. Like other Suzuki models, it's easy to wrap your head around the Ignis range thanks to three clearly defined trim levels and just one engine option.
So, which version should you go for? And is it the perfect choice if you’re looking for a small car with SUV capabilities?

One of the best car Suzuki ignis...both off and on road 💯
Bought the misses one. I really enjoy driving it surprisingly spacious and fun to drive.
I bought one last month and don't agree about the noise levels, the chunky rear pillars don't really make a lot of difference when you have the camera for parking. I find it an excellent car if you have a disability with the higher seating.
Thanks for watching and your honest review of the Ignis, John 👍
I've had one for nearly 3 years and I agree with every one of your points, especially the last one.
I managed to get two Big fish folding bikes into the boot, excellent with space for helmets and rucksack too! I enjoyed driving it but settled on the Vitara Allgrip which was fab and retained its value. Now driving a Swift Sport and leaving the bikes at home!
My car is ignis. It's awesome to drive with good fuel efficiency.
No, the headunit on the SZT AND SZ5 models is NOT an aftermarket Pioneer unit, it was briefly when the Ignis was first launched in 2016 but during 2017 it changed to the unit shown in the video which is a bespoke unit for Suzuki by Bosch. Some Ignis made last year and this year, alternatively have a comparable and similar looking unit by Navco due to supply shortages with the Bosch unit at the time.
I can confirm this, recently bought a 2017 SZ5 which has the Bosch head unit. Some of the others had the Pioneer units.
I have one, fabulous car, I’ve driven loads of 4 by 4s at work. Love it
Loved it's looks, the seat height and build quality.
Seriously considered buying one 3 years ago to go with our 67 plate Suzuki Celerio.
However on the test drive I found it all a little narrow.
So, instead I bought another Vitara this time the Hybrid.
So impressed and the local dealer in Ashton was one of the very best I've encountered in 35 years of driving. 🤗
Many thanks for watching, Martin. 👍 We hope you enjoy your new Vitara!
Suzuki car ways of death. They made from plastic 😂😂😂.
@@Marcus.22823its not the indian version...Indian versions are plastic...outside india suzuki gets good score
Hooray! you are reviewing a great little car. These are (taking in to account prices these days) reasonably priced. Unlike many rivals they have a more reliable 4 cylinder engine with a timing chain not the Stellantis and Ford stupid cambelt in oil arrangement. Well done Suzuki. By the way the Kamiq and Puma are not rivals to the Ignis. They are bigger and more expensive.
my friend has one, been in one for quite some hours. If i had money, i would buy this.
I love it saw one in the shopping centre then went out the next day and bought one mad l guess but l am looking so forward to getting it in March this year
it is a great little car. from Australia.
Fantastic to hear, Christina! Let us know how it goes with your Ignis 👍 Greetings from the UK 👋
Ignis is a beauty. And being as peppy as it is, driving it is bound to put a smaile on ur face. ❤
I drive a July-2022 model Maruti Suzuki Ignis in India and my 83 years old Precious Mother finds ingress and exit very EASY!
Ignis is the Most Underrated Car!
We possess this sporty , fun to drive with it. Thanks
Great video. I love this car !!!.
Thank you for watching!
This costs GBP 7500 in India for FWD with 7 inch Android Auto & apple car play. Plus led projector headlamps but only 2 airbag as standard across the range.
I’ve owned a top of the range, Allgrip for the last 6 years, & I love it, I’ve ordered a new one.
Fantastic to hear your Suzuki is still going strong 💪 If you enjoyed the review, make sure to subscribe: bit.ly/319ZKoT
Very nice, can you switch on and off the four wheel drive, to make it even more economical?
Replaced a splash with this. Miss the coin holder and spectacle holder. Also no heated wing mirrors or intermittent rear wiper. CVT very good but they reduced fuel tank. Also bought a spare tyre.
I am pretty sure the Suzuki web page is stating 83 horse power and 107 NM torque. Where do you get 81 PS and 207 NM from???
Just bought one, absolutely love it in Australia they seem half the price what you pay in England
His comments about the CVT being sluggish at moving off and the overall 0-60 time requiring gaps to be carefully chosen at junctions are simply wrong - I have one of these and with the battery assistance it's actually quite nippy. I presume he must be confusing the performance of the CVT with the automated manual gearbox in the previous version.
Can you get automatic top spec in the UK?
Apperently Here in Ireland if you get the automatic you have to get the zT version which lacks of keyless automatic air con built in indicator lights in the mirrors etc
Could you tell me if in the UK is the same?
Thanks
In UK you can take a SZ5 with full top spec.
The engine is not called "Dualtech" but "Dualjet"
Better than panda is fully agreed. In evey aspect its true.
is this the spresso??
not gonna lie but i still own the older version of a suzuki ignis best car for me i enjoy driving it till this day ❤, and looks wise i think it still is better than that
Are high and low beam headlights not standard on every car ?
I laughed at that too. My first car was a 1968 mini mk2 & of course, it had dip & main beam just like all cars do :)
As an 2023 Ignis owner who previously owned a 2018 model, I have wondered when the steering problems that I had experienced in the 2018 model had been improved. Now I know because this reviewer complains about the lack of feedback and self-centring in a 2022 model so it must be a very recent improvement. The steering on the 2023 model is fine. Regarding MPG figures; on a journey I have achieved 64 mpg but driving around town I rarely reach 50mpg.
Your honest feedback is much appreciated 👍 If you enjoyed the video, make sure to subscribe: bit.ly/319ZKoT
If you can’t spell metric you can go back to inches, but if you do, all dimensions in metric are in meters, centimeters and millimeters IN THAT ORDER ONLY. So 37 hundred millimeters is 3 meters seventy. One hundred and eighty millimeters is 18 centimeters. Simple, no?
How do I know that I bought the New Suzuki Ignis 2022 delivered 2023? What does VIN mean? Thank you..
Vehicle Information Number. A car built in 2022 will be no different that one built in 2023.
It didn't stop you calling about 100 other hatchbacks SUVs.
What’s the Tyre size on 16inch wheel
175/60
I think sz3 is now no longer available in uk. Also no one mentions you will still be waiting for delivery eight months and counting !
Just got my 2022 model on 23rd April. Ordered it on 24th February. Exactly 2 Months! Where did you get your information?
Sz3 has been deleted from Suzuki sales literature. Just had my complimentary two month check over from my dealer. I know it’s me but the auto start/ of starting procedure compleatly frustrates me when the car does not start for whatever reason. Otherwise love the car sz5 hybrid ignis all grip.
@@nickreestearsofaclown4661 I avoided the SZ5 because I am "old school" and some of the add-ons were a bit too much for me, including the push button start. I like the feel of turning the key and making the engine jump into life.
Can it be driven in a LEZ/ULEZ ? If not, how can it be called a ‘city car’?
I take it that you haven't checked the ULEZ Requirements?
6 JAAR SUZUKI-GARANTIE
Bewezen betrouwbaarheid. Voortaan krijg je niet 3 maar 6 jaar garantie op alle modellen. ('six year warranty on azll Sujzukis in Netherlanbds.)
The 0-60 times are the wrong way around. 12.8 for the manul, 12.4 for the CVT automatic.
Thank you for your feedback, we've passed this onto the team 👍
i own it ignis in india.Same features. But prices are double price in UK.
Suzuki car way of death. Don't worry india have no population bill 😂😂😂
You sounded like Mat Watson anyone noticed it ?
my petrol non hybrid 2017 adventure gets me 0-60 in 11 seconds
This is true . After 10.000 km the Motor seems running better and better.
You must force Performance.
5.000 rpm or more!
Now i have the Ignis III two years.
Driving a lot every day!
Vmax. 172 kmh over specs, gps controlled.
I have it❤️
Thanks for watching 👍 That's great! Are you enjoying it so far?
Better than indian version
I had one but sadly got shut after a couple of months as it was very crashy over potholes. It felt like I was driving a tin can, my Suzuki swift I had before this was a much better car even though it had a hard suspension. My friend has the panda cross and it’s so much more comfortable than the ignis.
I test drove an Ignis more than a few years ago. The jolty ride was so torturous (including on the expressway), especially when riding in the back, that rendered its “comfy roomy high-chair back seats” useless. I might as well just go get a quiet comfy-riding used Mk5 Polo & forget about having “roomy back seats with leg room” in a nimble/convenient little car narrower than 1.7 meter wide.
9:46
I’ll tell you what’s funny. Tin can is what the Ignis is in India.
Scored a solitary star in NCAP for Indian cars.
I think a car for its engine size and weight it should be a lot more fuel efficient.
Mine does over 55 to the gallon. Do you base your comment on experience?
Best small car but need a battery one as well, just look at what is selling
What is it like on fuel on the motorways?!?!?!?!
Combined country road driving and motorway I was getting over 60mpg.
I'd rather buy one of these over the competition
12.4 seconds? 🤡Suzuki are always telling porkies on their performance. There's an Ignis Autobahn PoV vid out there - watch it. These are a really nice little wagon - unless you're looking for "premium" style quietness. If you want more, take the back seats out - 4 bolts - they weigh about 50Kg each.
I can indicate exactly the parts of the body where it will be covered with rust after 5-7 years of use.
My did you say this? I just traded my 5 year old Ignis for a new one with 45000 miles on the clock. There was no rust anywhere!
Please bring back the original presenters of this channel.
Is it a car for long vacation rides?
Well ours has cruise and is comfortable on the motirway
I have owned two now and I have never used either for long journeys. It is mainly a city car.
@@leoseries I know its what they say.
A Skoda Fabia is also a city car according to media and tests but still a nice car for long rides
Suspension is very hard, the automated manual clutch has been rubbish on our third! And biggest issue is it is still petrol just need to be an EV as it would remove the auto clutch. Sick to death of the silly "Suzuki comes a hybrid as standard"
I have been driving my Swift AMT for four years with no problems
If it was an ev,,it would be over thirty grand.
@@meljen8592 but it shouldn’t be that price. Tesla are making a fortune on every car Suzuki don’t even seem to have started
It's not an automated clutch
207nm ? Really I think that's a mistake
Good spot this should be 107 nm. Apologies for the mistake. Thank you for highlighting Alan.
Biggest problem for me is that the hybrid system WILL NOT WORK in cool weather. I made a big mistake buying this car.....I'll only get the hybrid part of things to work half of the year.
The car structural rigidity is very poor and it has scored very low in encap rating
5 stars in Europe 😎 and excellent torsion rigidity as well so…
🐼
Safety rating is 1 ⭐️
On only Indian variant.
Visibility of A and C styles is a an absolute deal killer. How did this even get road legal?
😆😅🤣
@@christga100 I understand believe it or not we have had four Panda's in the family spanning over 40 years :-).
PS as a second car :-)
I take it that you have never driven a convertible?
@@leoseries Used to have a Miata, but that was over 25 years ago 🙂
@@xmaniac99 And was rear view any better?
OMG dese TATA bots and PR team is here as well🤔
No. Tata and mahindra working in own style.
Unfortunately GNCAP rating is 1👎🏻
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ in Europe!
Highest trim Level. Five stars NCAP!
I think it’s a very ugly car. But maybe it’s designed to appeal to men not women.
Thats why uk falling in economy no one saved uk 😂😂😂
It is not better than the Panda
Of course it is. It's Japanese.
What makes the Panda better in your opinion?
Panda Pros
Better to drive / character / cult following / track record
Looks better / nicer colour
Twinair torque / noise
Great residuals
Better designed for off road
Heated windscreen and seats
Handles well (for what it is), decent steering
Easier to clean on outside / less paintwork to worry about
Better visibility inside
Dual mass flywheel design has been strengthened since 2018 model
No bad road noise, better motorway cruiser
Panda Cons
Older design / replaced next year?
Less space than Ignis in boot and rear
Mediocre economy (MPG can drop to 37 mpg or lower vs 50 mpg worst case for Ignis) / higher emissions
Possibly less reliable long term
Softer plastics / interior easier to mark / damage
4 speaker stereo with no aux / CD player and no current option to upgrade
Less kit
Engine more strict on servicing to ensure reliability
Cost cut interior compared with older Pandas
Driver footwell / rest less space so less comfortable on long journeys
Ignis Pros
Cheaper to run (save £350/year on 9.5k miles) / lower emissions
More space in rear and boot with flexible rear seat design
Slightly more modern design + hybrid
High equipment list - reverse camera, emergency braking, lane departure, keyless, cruise control
Greater reliability
Stereo is easier to upgrade + 6 speakers
Comfier seats
Handles ok with little body roll
Attract less attention from thieves
Ignis Cons
Expensive options
Gutless engine / need to change down gear
Hardwearing but very thin and cheap interior plastics
Body less durable for off road / no engine undertray
No heated windscreen or seats
Crap stereo
Road noise can be bad
Less character
Brakes mediocre
Unusual tyre size so less choice
@@csapiedisagree
@csapie you will lots of time to look at you fiat panda shen it's broken down for the 10th time fiat fix it again tomorrow
This is the ugliest car suzuki made least car sale in india 🤷
This thing looks quirky and fun. You can buy boring i10, Tiago, whatever
@@encoreartz1028 boring i10 sales is more than this
@@nagabala5011 i don't care about sales number.
@@encoreartz1028 atleast would you care your safety it's lowest rated compare to i10
@@nagabala5011 my ignis got hit by a bike , nothing happened but bike headlight got broken. I know about rating, i drive as carefully as possible. I am not saying you to buy it but saying it straight ugly is outrageous
Instead of wasting money on 1 Star poor quality shiit
Buy Tata Punch👊, it's much more beautiful, has higher ground clearance, have 5 Star safety, and looks cute.
It comes with EBS, Traction control, Brake Sway assist, Emergency Panik Brake Assist, quality Haaman Speakers and awesome music system and many more, also it's way better in offroading than Ignis.
Only Indian variant is 1*, Europe version has 3* and with safety pack a 5*.
