Why? If you consider that the MPG and emissions of these engines are on par with the likes of a Qashqai E-Power, a vehicle which is much larger, heavier, and more performant, what is the subsidy for? There is already a VED premium on cars over 40K.

Probably the smallest car we can buy is a Hyundai Venue, a four meter hatchback with a 120 HP 1.6 engine. Really at least a class above this one. US pricing starts around 20k $ but sales tax in most states adds 6-9% and there's a standard $1000 delivery fee. I rarely see one on the road. But petrol here is 80¢/litre. We're still a strange country.

@tommullen2958 Nobody needs to get to 60 MPH in just a few seconds, ie 4 and even fewer have their foot on the floor trying to achieve that. If anyone can't cope with a car that gets to 60 in, say, 10 seconds, they probably shouldn't be on the road. Most people get to 60MPH much slower than that, why?, because they don't need to go so fast. Who is driving around going from 0 - 60MPH as fast as possibly all the time. What's actually more important is stopping power...

Regarding the engine, at home i have a 05 modus with the 4cyl 1.2 16v na, which has around the same power, and yes, it's slow and overtaking is anxiety inducing, but for the city it's enough, and for the highway or faster roads it's still serviceable.

Why o why Kia remove the turbo engine which gave the car praise for its performance and economy. If you to delete the engine remove the 1tr non turbo version.

Surprised Kia haven't made it a hybrid or electric yet. It's a lovely car but 55mpg is pretty bad for how small and slow it is.

Kia/Hyundai do quite a lot of `suggesting` as regards their car`s fuel economy....hence being constantly sued in the USA.
A slow as a pig car 1 litre should give 60mpg however it`s driven, from what I`ve heard the 1 litre MPG is more like 45mpg with the 1.2 even lower at around 42mpg, however, the car itself is aimed at people who will do 1500-2000 miles per year going shopping/garden centre twice a week, so fuel economy not that important.
A better buy is the previous model Toyota Yaris 1.5 petrol.....quoted 47mpg (Mine returns around 50mpg) and 0-60 time of around 11 secs, half decent boot, 5 year warranty and Toyota reliability.

Lovely car let down by mediocre engines. Imo turbocharged engines are the most useful in city environments where low rev torque is most important due to you constantly stopping and accelerating from low speeds. Can't understand the reasoning behind dropping the turbocharged engine

I could understand the poor 0-60 time if the economy was excellent but it isn't.
Seems like both engines badly need that turbo back.
To have the 1.2 engine you have ro select the GT Line-S at a staggering £18,445
You can buy plenty of far better used cars with decent performace and space for this sort of money
    Not for me thank you.
