    The Lotus is miles ahead of the Boxster when it comes to the actual driving experience. Yes you can use an Elise every day, they aren't uncomfortable like most people expect. The suspension is smoother than most hot hatches!

      yeah if lotus makes a inline 4 high reeving na engine like say a 2.5 liter 9000 rpm at 300hp and maintain its current weight im sure they will sell by the bucket load it should be easier for lotus to get away with emission with that kind of setup since there so light so many people have mod there lotus with he k20 engine imagine lotus making it them self

      I've test driven both back to back recently; the Boxster is much easier to live with and less stressful in terms of worrying about scratching the bumper, but the Lotus beats the Porsche any day as a sports car

    I wonder how many people here have ever driven a porsche and a lotus. I had an Elise before and changed it to an Exige. According driving fun there are very less cars that can compare to a lotus. if you want an every day car, then there are much cheaper options than a porsche. I keep my lotus when I want to drive. I use my other car for the boring things.

    I daily drive my 2001 Elise S2 and my 2013 Elise S3. Just not in winter because of salt. (I just love them too much) I have 2 because I wanted to replace my S2 with something calmer. (S2 is tuned and loud) I love them both too much now to let go of the S2. Both are faultless and have been for many years. Hardly any maintenance costs or depreciation.

    • @BlatentlyFakeName

    The *_additional_* carbon aero pack doesn't put the weight down, it increases it. A car without aero kit at all is lighter !

    • @d0718
      @d0718 Před 8 lety +18

      In this case the alternative is plastic aero kit. So carbonfibre one actually does decrease weight (mainly through making the owner's wallet lighter), but not by much

    One thing every Porsche owner knows: every car ever made by anyone anywhere will out run their Porsche! Of course almost none of them will. Other day I’m out in my Box and a guy in a black 350z with a wing-yes a wing, and a nice loud exhaust pulls on to the highway spots me an boom he’s on my bumper. Dropped it from 6th to 4th about 5000rpm. Hit 128 when traffic forced me to slow. And he either exited, hid behind a truck, or ran off the road somewhere.

  • @kabob21
    @kabob21 Před 8 lety +9

    Anybody that would opt for a Lotus over the Porsche for daily driving has never owned one. I tried to drive my '05 Elise as often as possible for nearly 3 years but it leaked in the cabin and trunk on rainy days, the windscreen would fog over if the windows were rolled up, the suspension was back breaking (I had the track pack) and low-speed maneuvering was a chore with unassisted steering. Maintenance costs were ok, at best. It was a blast for occasional sunny day, smooth road driving or on the track but that's about it.

    • @Selbach555
      @Selbach555 Před 7 lety +2

      I have daily driven my S2 and S3 Exige without any complaints. Sure there are a few issues of rocking seats and clutch chatter which was fixed quickly, but you will only have problems with the rigidity of the car if you're a complete softie.

    • @kabob21
      @kabob21 Před 7 lety +4

      Buddy, an Exige and an Elise are two different animals. The hardtop roof design and sealed off trunk in the rear takes care of most of the complaints I had with the Elise. As for your rigidity statement, that's a personal preference and your opinion is not shared by everybody.

    I get that the Lotus is the more focused sports car, but the reality is that it is only really enjoyed at certain times of the year, in certain weathers and on certain roads. The Porsche on the other hand, though be a bit less focused, can be enjoyed pretty much throughout the year and will be a lot more refined and comfortable too, not to mention far better built. The Lotus is a part-time sports car, the Porsche is a full-time sports car.

    Although this vid wasn't a direct head to head, but still, Lotus get such a hard time being compared to VASTLY more expensive cars constantly. Accordingly in the Australian market (where I am), that Boxter is about 35% (or about $40,000) more expensive. It always seems Porsche gets the higher cost car to compete. Check all the professional comparisons between a Porsche and Lotus on youtube. Even the recent Evora 400 gets essentially shunned against a Cayman GT4, even though here accordingly the GT4 costs more to buy, theoretically costs more to run, and is theoretically slower too

    Drawbacks of of Lotus. Toyota engine. So the engine may seem great. However, may as well have a nice Honda lump with true Vtec. Porsche Boxster is madw more for American housewives to put one of them tiny little dogs in a Louis Vuitton bag and floss up and down Hollywood Boulevard. I shall always prefer a S2000 over any Boxster. However, the s2000 has been off the scene for 9 years already. The Boxster is just too boring these days and has no real fun. Sadly all new cars have no soul. They're all like white household goods. Kitted up with tech you wont need. Aside from a nice stereo, air con, heater and elec windows. What else do you actually need? Ok... maybe a use or cigarette socket which should come as standard these days.
    But on a modern day sports vehicle with 2 doors, you dont need the elec windows so much. I'd rather a brake bias switch.

    As a MASSIVE Porsche fan, I would not buy the 718 Boxster/Cayman, especially if you can pick up a used 981 that's a year old or less for cheaper. The 718 looks uglier, sounds worse, and just is not exciting enough compared to the howling, sonorous engine in even the base 981.

      Also a Porsche guy and put off buying a 981 to wait for this car. On my test drive I returned early to the showroom in disgust. The engine is awful, sounds like a 60s Beetle not a Subaru. I'm now in the market for a used 981.

    Hey mate.. come on...
    U just cant compare both cars directly as its totally different class & different market target...
    Its like u comparing pizza & sushi... both are food but most of the people in the world love pizza or atleast would eat it but not like sushi, not everyone love or wouldnt try to eat the shashimi sushi (raw salmon)..

    I find these comparisons stupid. I have been in both and the lotus is almost un drivable its so small inside. I am quite tall but I literally couldnt get out of the thing. I wouldnt drive one if I had it given.....never. Porsche everytime.

    Five years from now when the Lotus is falling apart and you try to sell it and see the terrible resale value, and the fact that the limited market for the hard core sports car is almost zero, you will know why the other guy bought the Porsche.

      Lol. My Elise is 14 years old, used daily and not fallen apart yet.
      The Lotuses also hold their value better than most other cars. When this Boxster is worth 6k this Lotus will still have 60% of it's value or more...

      I have an Elise S2 K-series and an Elise S3. They are both daily drivers. Just in winter I keep them away from salt. Not because I need but because I care for them. My S2 has the big boot for long travels. My S3 is more calm and behaved. I dread the day I will have to miss them due to electrification.
